I Kicked it I Played it and now..Wheeling & Dealing at the WL final 9/9 p87/88

What a great trip you had! :goodvibes And such amazing photos. Do you frame any or do you scrapbook?

I tend to get in a last day funk too. It's just no fun leaving the magic. BUT you are going back so soon!!

Looks like you were looking for some drink recommendations. You've come to the right place. :upsidedow

I think the margarita at the DTD shack is the best. LOVE it. La Cava del Tequila also makes great ritas- I like the jalapeno one believe it or not. And the crab tostadas there are divine!! At the Contemporary there's a martini with a splash of champagne and chambord that is yummy. I have not yet tried it but the Lapu Lapu at the Poly is supposed to be delish (& strong) - it comes in a pineapple!

Please post some of your off the beaten track things to do and experience. Also - your favorite eats and drinks!

Along with that What's Your Favorite Snack and Where Can it Be Found?

And finally What's Your Favorite Off the Beaten Track, Little Known "Smell the Roses" thing to do?

YES, you should be able to ride EE when it's DARK. I'm 99% sure of this! I believe the first time I ever did was September 2009 and it was dark enough where I couldn't see the track. :hyper:

I so wish our times lined up so we could ride together. :goodvibes

My favorite snack - that is a tough choice (aside from Corn Dog Nuggets!), I think it might have to be the Sweet Pretzel from Norway. It's sweet, but not overly so. I've only had it twice, but both times was soooooo yummy! I see the gelato from Italy has made your list already, it is very tasty! Henry and I devoured one!

My favorite off the beaten track thing to do - you already know it - the Discovery Island trails at AK! :thumbsup2 We are also huge fans of resort hopping and just exploring the various lobbies, pool areas, playgrounds , and getting a feel for the theme. I think the BW area can be a lot of fun when the entertainment is out as well, stop and watch one - soak it in...or the entertainers at DTD too. Oh - watch Wishes from a hammock on the Poly beach. Let me tell you, it's NICE!!!! ::yes::

Now onto your WL updates:
You SO COULD be a Photopass Photographer! Some of the ones Disney has - as you have experienced - aren't good at all! I can't believe how many tilted horizons, out of focus or "hot" (too much flash) pictures I've gotten. I really think they just assign people who might have a sort of interest in photography and then run them through a course to give them some skills. But, then there are some that really know what they are doing and have a BLAST with you doing it! That would be YOU! I'll hunt you down in the parks for a picture should you ever become one. :goodvibes

I just love, love, love your WL pictures. It made me grin ear to ear! I love that resort, so peaceful and beautiful. Wonderful lodge pictures from the outside too - the architecture of it is simply amazing.

Sorry to hear about the "last day funk" - I've had that myself. :sad2:

Wonderful TR, as always! I'm looking forward to the rest taking us to your September trip!

So cool that you got a Photopass photograher to take some pictures of you folks around the resort. Your friends must have been quite surprised!

How strange that the photographer did a crappy job with your camera. Usually if I ever try to explain to them how to focus it, they're like, "um yeah, I know."
durr.gif

So sorry you had the blues that afternoon. I could really feel it coming through your writing and pictures. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your September plans! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for sharing all your amazing pictures with us. Great Trip Report!:thumbsup2

I always get into a funk on the way home. I always bring a good book to sink into on the plane so i don't get weepy, it's my happy place, what can i say.....

I get that funky feeling on the last day or second to last day of any vacation - I guess it's the dread of going home or something.

LOVE the sunset pictures from the plane!!
Looking forward to more from you and Tennesee pics too!

Many of you are DVC members - my DH and I are now considering buying in via resale. Would like a less expensive, smaller point contract (we probably could only go once a year). Not sure where or what yet, just trying to learn a bunch first. Been reading the DVC board quite a bit this morning!
I have a question:

If I have two small contracts say 80 pts each. One at WVL and one at OKW. Can I book at WVL 11 months out and use more than 80 points? Or can I only use the points for that resort at 11 months? I hope that makes sense. I know you would know the answer!
Thanks and sorry about the sidetrack.

Awwww sorry about your last day blues  I was getting sad myself with all of your goodbye pictures  It is hard to leave but we will always be back so I guess we have to look at it that way :goodvibes
Another snack place I thought of today is the patissiere in France....so many good and unhealthy choices...I always make a stop there! :thumbsup2
I think there is a wine tour or something like that...a tour of sorts through Italy, Germany and maybe somewhere else?

Tracy

Mary Ellen, I have thoroughly enjoyed your Trip Report and, most especially, your fabulously stunning pictures. Thank you for sharing with us.

I'm sorry that your last day was a "downer" for you, but with it being the last day and your not feeling all that great, it was probably a combination.

I'm sorry we'll miss you by just a couple of days next month. :sad2:

Sorry you got into a bit of a funk the last afternoon! I think it happens to the best of us from time to time!

I know. I just didn't expect it because I had been rolling along with all the punches, so it startled me a bit. I think if we had gone to a park I would have been cool, but at the pool I kept dwelling on myself.

The pictures with Ranger Joe are just too cute, and I love all the shots you got of the Lodge! The ones from the parking lot are just too cool! It makes me want to stay there! :goodvibes

It was a beautiful place. Architecturally speaking it is probably the most impressive resort, IMHO. Add it to your list!

Great pictures, MEK! As always. I'm amazed at all of your pictures, not that I didn't think you had it in you but they are seriously great!!

Thanks LL - that means a lot coming from you since your pictures have always been a big inspiration for me!

The last day is always a bummer, sorry you were in a bit of a funk.

Just think, not many more days until you are in Disney again!!

It was just a weird last day. I think I was also regretting not spending part of the day at Epcot, so that was probably bumming me out some.

Very excited to be going back - 27 days now (my ticker is off by 1 day)

I haven't had a chance to do comments on my PTR, but I love the idea of meeting up at the Top of the World Lounge....is that what it's called? My brain isn't working to full capicity yet this morning. What night would you want to dot hat???

I would love to do it when you guys get to the Poly, but I'm thinking it might need to be on the 12th. Weren't you planning on MK evening that night? The 13th we have dinner at Epcot and the 14th is MNSSHP. Then I think you are leaving because we could also have done it the 15th. I will pm you or hop over to your PTR for more discussion.

Sorry you had a case of the last-day blues! It seems like overall though you had a wonderful vacation! :goodvibes

Overall, it was a very good vacation. Not question there. Sure, there were a few bumps, but honestly given the situations leading up to the vacation I am just glad we pulled it off. :thumbsup2

Oh, I'm sorry you were sad on your last day, it's hard not to be when you're leaving WDW! :goodvibes

Last days are always sad. That's why I always have another trip planned or I start planning one right away. Without a trip to look forward to I would be crushed.

I love all the WL pictures! They're making me so sad that I won't be staying there this November! :sad1: The sunset pictures from the plane are beautiful!

Im so glad you enjoyed the pictures from the plane. I can't believe I got a window seat - never happens. DH and I usually get the two outside seats cause someone is already there.

Where are you staying this November - crap, I forget - I will have to go check. Wherever it is, you will have a wonderful time.

I'm going to try to think of suggestions for your next trip, but a lot of the things I would have suggested are already there! I know you definitely have to get a margarita in Mexico though, they're fantastic! :)

That is definitely a big #1 on my list since I missed the Ditch meet in May. Can't wait to try one. It's really a toss up now between the blood orange and the jalapeno. I want to try both, so which will be FIRST????? :confused3

What a great trip you had! :goodvibes And such amazing photos. Do you frame any or do you scrapbook?

It was a lovely trip. I just started digital scrapbooking, so I will definitely do that with these pics. I also need to do one from my OBX trip. That should probably be the priority since there were parents with kids involved in that trip.

I tend to get in a last day funk too. It's just no fun leaving the magic. BUT you are going back so soon!!

Knowing that I had a trip planned in a few months really did help with the last day funk. I think I might also have been craving some alone time at the world, something I haven't had in while.

I KNEW that you would help me out with finding the best drinks. I can't wait to try the DTD ritas. That may be the first drink I have on arrival since we are going to DTD that evening (I think).

I'm not sure if I want to drink out of a pineapple, so I might skip that one in favor of the backscratcher (recommended by Dawnbu), but that martini sounds really yummy - adding it to the list!

YES, you should be able to ride EE when it's DARK. I'm 99% sure of this! I believe the first time I ever did was September 2009 and it was dark enough where I couldn't see the track. :hyper:

I so wish our times lined up so we could ride together. :goodvibes
:banana::banana: That's what I want to hear - only problem is we have Y&Y at 730pm, but I figure if we are on the ride at 730pm we can be 10 mins or so late for our ADR.

I wish our dates overlapped, too. I figure if I get an AP this trip I might have to go back a little earlier NEXT september! :rolleyes1 Just sayin'

vibes

My favorite snack - that is a tough choice (aside from Corn Dog Nuggets!), I think it might have to be the Sweet Pretzel from Norway. It's sweet, but not overly so. I've only had it twice, but both times was soooooo yummy! I see the gelato from Italy has made your list already, it is very tasty! Henry and I devoured one!

Sweet Pretzel from Norway going on the list! Yes - the corn dog nuggets and gelato are already there. I know you  those corn dog nuggets and I am determined to try them this trip!

My favorite off the beaten track thing to do - you already know it - the Discovery Island trails at AK! :thumbsup2 We are also huge fans of resort hopping and just exploring the various lobbies, pool areas, playgrounds , and getting a feel for the theme. Let me tell you, it's NICE!!!! ::yes::

I love the Discovery Island trails!!!!!!! I had such a blast there last September and it would be fun to go back with my camera this year. I also want to get over to the trail with the bats - the "M" trail. I'm trying to decide if I want to go to Rafiki's planet. I have only been there once. I actually think there is a ton to do at AK, if you do everything, so its hard to pick and choose.

Now onto your WL updates:

I prefer scenery to people, but I would have no problem adapting to being a PP photographer. You're right - some of them are very knowledgeable. One of them recommended a certain lens for me. Of course, I don't have the $ for it right now. but someday......

I just love, love, love your WL pictures. It made me grin ear to ear! I love that resort, so peaceful and beautiful. Wonderful lodge pictures from the outside too - the architecture of it is simply amazing.

Wonderful TR, as always! I'm looking forward to the rest taking us to your September trip!

I agree that the architecture is simply amazing. I think its the most interesting resort, architecturally speaking. I'm so glad you enjoyed all the pics.

The last day funk was a bit of a bummer, but nothing major.

Can't wait until both of our September trips!

So cool that you got a Photopass photograher to take some pictures of you folks around the resort. Your friends must have been quite surprised!

Ranger Joe really did hook us up! And my friends are not really that into Disney so it may have been lost of them. Still a great experience.

How strange that the photographer did a crappy job with your camera. Usually if I ever try to explain to them how to focus it, they're like, "um yeah, I know."
durr.gif

Yeah - I don't know what was up with that?????? :confused3 It's certainly not hard to focus a camera. Oh well.

So sorry you had the blues that afternoon. I could really feel it coming through your writing and pictures. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your September plans! :goodvibes

I hope it didn't sound like too much of a pity party. I think it was a bunch of things rolled into one and I couldn't get out of that cloud for a few hours!

More September plans coming!

Awesome pictures! Bummer about your funk, been there, done that.
:rotfl: Its reassuring to know that we all have been in a post trip funk from time to time!

Glad you enjoyed the pictures!

Thanks so much for sharing all your amazing pictures with us. Great Trip Report!:thumbsup2

So glad you enjoyed the TR and the pictures. Stick around until the end because I hope to post some more pics of my other summer trips!

I always get into a funk on the way home. I always bring a good book to sink into on the plane so i don't get weepy, it's my happy place, what can i say.....

I hear ya' - Its my happy place, too and leaving is never fun! I mean, sometimes you are tired and you have to get back to real life, but losing the magic stings a bit!

I get that funky feeling on the last day or second to last day of any vacation - I guess it's the dread of going home or something.

I am usually still fine on the second to last day and sometimes I get the funk after I get home, but this was weird. I was still in the magic and I felt like I was already home - didn't like it!

LOVE the sunset pictures from the plane!!
Looking forward to more from you and Tennesee pics too!

Thanks and I think posting more TN pictures is next on my agenda.

I love answering DVC questions, although I am far from an expert. And I had the same question as you.

If you want too small contracts I would suggest 2 100 point contracts - they are easier to get through resale.

Make sure both of your contracts are in the SAME USE YEAR! This is key.

NO - you can't use both points at 11 months out for one of the resorts. You can only use the home resort at 11 months out. But let's say you really want to stay at resort #1 and you want to book it at 11 months out. You can borrow next years points so you can essentially use all 200 points from resort#1 on one trip.

The following year you can do the same thing with resort #2.

The reason you want the same use year is let's say you want to book resort #3 with resort 1 & 2's points. Resort #1 and #2 points will essentially be pooled at 7 months out so you can use them wherever you want. I hope this makes sense.

Scan the timeshare store listings everyday (make sure you sign up to get them sent to your email). It will give you an idea of what's available and price. Remember that you will pay more for 2 smaller contracts as opposed to one larger contract and the small contracts sell out really, really fast!

Good luck. I bought my contract through resale and I have no regrets with DVC. I wish I had scoped the contracts a little better to get a contract that had more banked points, but hey - I am happy!

Awwww sorry about your last day blues  I was getting sad myself with all of your goodbye pictures  It is hard to leave but we will always be back so I guess we have to look at it that way :goodvibes

I do look at it that way. That's one of the things I love about DVC, its knowing that I will ALWAYS be back!!!!!! :cool1:

Another snack place I thought of today is the patissiere in France....so many good and unhealthy choices...I always make a stop there! :thumbsup2
I think there is a wine tour or something like that...a tour of sorts through Italy, Germany and maybe somewhere else?

Is that where the eclairs are because they are already on my list? They do have really yummy things in there.

Curious about this wine tour. I would really enjoy something like that. I know they have a lot of wine for sale in Germany. I will look into this. Thanks!

BTW - There are some cute PP pics of you....Can I post one (or two). :rolleyes1 Please. Pretty Please????? I love the one of you and Woody!

Mary Ellen, I have thoroughly enjoyed your Trip Report and, most especially, your fabulously stunning pictures. Thank you for sharing with us.

Thank you! I am so glad we got to meet through my TR. I love it when I feel like I really gotten to know someone as a consequence of writing one of these reports.

I'm sorry that your last day was a "downer" for you, but with it being the last day and your not feeling all that great, it was probably a combination.

I'm sorry we'll miss you by just a couple of days next month. :sad2:

Yeah - I think it was a combo of things. If I really analyzed it I would say there were about 5 or 6 factors which got all balled up into one funky mood. fortunately it was short lived cause life is too short to be in a funk!!!!!

I am very sorry we will miss each other, too. But I hope that our trips overlap in the future. Now that I know who the September and October people are (well - just about everyone lol). Once Nicholas is in college (3 years away) I know that we will start taking 2 week vacations so that should increase my chance of seeing people!

I remember reading something on Liesa's (All7ofUs) PTR about a free tour of Morocco. :confused3
Great information Denise - I already added it to the list as soon as I saw it. I want more free tours :rotfl: although none will live up to my WL tour experience.

Ooooh, good call! That would be really interesting I think!

Seriously cool. It's such a pretty country and isn't that where the tangerine daquiris are????? :rotfl:

Thanks for another excellent TR,...can't wait for your PTR:cool1:

I dread the last day and try really hard not to thing about it until it arrives. We always cry on the ME to the airport. I'm usually good, but as soon as Jasmine starts (and she always does) I'm done.

Great pictures once again.

Thanks for the DVC info Mary Ellen - it is very helpful. Where do you own? Do you usually stay at your home resort or mix it up? How much trouble do you have booking elsewhere at 7 months out? I understand OKW and SSR are usually available so I thought maybe it better to pick another resort as a home, even though it might cost more to get in.

I'm finally caught up on your report.

I loved your private tour of the WL. What a special treat. The pictures from the roof are priceless. My DH loves scenic pictures so I made him look. He would love to have the opportunity to see those scenes in person but not ready to put out the bucks to stay there yet. I finally got him to stay at a moderate our last trip.

You've gotten a pretty good list so far for eats and drinks so I don't really have anything to add. Although since you're eating at Y&Y I do suggest the Mango pie for dessert. Both Michelle and I got it and loved it. And yes, do get some beignents. Danielle could have eaten those every morning.

Looking forward to more on Tenn and OBX.

I’m so sorry about your last day funk! Booo! I hope you were able to enjoy some of it!

Your lodge pictures are amazing! I love them! The pictures from the plane are beautiful!

Oh man, what can I add to your list?!

I definitely agree that you have to try a Lapu Lapu! C is right, it is strong BUT it’s delish! YUMMY! You can’t go wrong with a drink in pineapple and an umbrella on top ;)
Definitely stop in one morning for some Kona Coffee from the coffee bar at Poly! It’s such a great way to kick off a WDW day!

DH is a big fan of the Moroccaritas in Morocco!

I’ll definitely try to think of more! ;)

Thanks for another excellent TR,...can't wait for your PTR:cool1:

Great pictures once again.

So glad you enjoyed the TR. I won't start an official PTR....just do an abbreviated PTR in this TR. It all ties together, right?

Oh no - I would lose it too if my daughter started to cry on the way home. Since I live in an all male family I really don't have to worry about that. They remain 100% stoic!

I own at SSR. I have stayed there twice, Kidani once, and VWL. I have had no trouble booking right at 7months. Of course, I have gone in May and early June, so they aren't prime time. I want to try all the DVC resorts, but I will never be disappointed if all that's available is SSR. I actually like it there. They say to buy where you want to stay most, but I have no regrets with SSR.

I appreciate that! I'm glad you have been able to get others at 7 months, that's probably what we'd do too. We are really considering SSR now. DH called and talked with someone at timeshare store and got some more info, so now we will be getting the emails. There will be times we go during peak seasons, so we will be conscious of the fact that we may not get other resorts and have to be happy with whatever we buy. At first we're going with low points, so we may only go every other year, or shorter trips and stay where the point usage is lower, like SSR. So it makes sense.
