I get these kinds of texts too as well as other spam texts. Be careful and do not respond not even when it says reply with STOP to end. I did that last month and ended up with a 'premium text charge' on my cell phone bill for $10. I called Verizon because I never signed up for any kind of premium texting. It was the spam I had replied STOP to. I would have been charged that $10 for now until eternity had I not caught it after the first bill. Beware and check your bills!

Actually, AT&T told me the opposite. My daughter had some charges on our bill and they told me it could have been from a company that texts you and if you do not reply back with STOP then they will automatically sign you up for whatever it is and start charging you. I would think like you, but that is not what the AT&T operator told me.

I work at walmart and for the past 2-3 weeks people have been asking us about it. We live in a rural area and a lot of the people around here just don't understand about phishing and all of that sort of business. Then they get angry when they find out it's not for real.

My DD9 got this text as well. Poor thing was all upset and trying to prove to me that she didn't text Walmart. (she has strict limitations on her phone) It took forever for her to believe that I believed her.

It amazes me how many people REALLY want to believe these scams. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Actually, AT&T told me the opposite. My friend's college aged daughter who has ATT got this and did reply with "STOP", and she started getting charged $10 a month. She apparently even took a screen shot picture of her STOP text and also the text sent to her because she thought the whole thing was suspicious and wanted to prove she had told them to "STOP" and not bill her. ATT told her Mother the same thing that they told you, if you do not reply STOP that they bill you, which is clearly the opposite of what happened to her. Her sister got the same text and ignored it, and I do not believe a charge showed up on her bill. ATT advised the mother that it was a huge problem and they are aware of it, but that ATT is still charging people's bills. ATT took it off, but advised that if it happened again that the charges would start up again until someone called and disputed them. They suggested requesting that ATT put a "block" on all mobile purchases from their phones to prevent it from happening. The main lesson I took from this is to keep a good eye on your bill every month, and to question it if any weird charges appear. I think they are banking on people not paying attention.


I've also gotten both the Wal-mart and the I-pad texts- and I also have E-mails with those I have found in my spam E-mail junk box. Those of you who have only got it once or twice are lucky. I think I got the Walmart one about every other day for a month on my phone.
