I am just so frustrated. I had my hardwood steps carpeted today b/c they are slippery, and I hate the carpet pattern I chose. It looks ok on the steps, but not great. The main problem is I had them continue the runner into our upstairs hallway and the pattern is just so busy. It actually makes me dizzy and makes my head hurt. I have to go up to pay them this afternoon. I am seriously considering having them cut off the upstairs rug and just leave the hardwoods up there. I really wish I had picked something else. What should I do?

I did something similar with paint once, UGH, I lived with it ....
If you REALLY cannot be happy with it, perhaps remove that area upstairs and it will be less "toxic" to you:confused3
sorry you are unhappy, hope it works out................:wizard:

Rip it up! Try some of those sticky gripper thingys on the stairs.

Hold on. I say hold off and see if you can get used to it first before you start tearing it out.

Sometimes when you get new flooring it takes time to adjust.

can you talk to them about it? See if they'll replace it with something else? Just tell them the truth and see what they say. couldn't hurt before you waste your money by ripping it up.

I would live with it for awhile.

Maybe it is just because your not use to it yet. I felt this way when I put a gold carpet strip in next to beige carpet. I thought that is really ugly now and too shiny. So they said they could change out and told me to come in for a sample of silver. Decided after a few days the gold was the right choice.

Besides, I am sure it will cost you to put something else there. They are not just going to say oh you hate it pick something else. :confused3

I agree with you. I think that it never hurts to ask.

Ask the store what your options are. Sometimes if you're unhappy, they'll work with you and give you a discount on whatever you swap it out with (sometimes not, but it's worth asking)

Same thing happened to me with kitchen counters!!!!! The sample looked so different than the real thing. They were installed on evening while I was at my studio teaching. I came home that night & wanted to cry!

We were leaving for Disney the next morning, so I told myself that I would take a few days to regroup. I felt better when I got back because I just told myself I would have to live with it. We paid a ton of money for the darn things.

I'm still not a huge fan of them , although I've gotten used to the color - now it's the fact that they just don't shine the way they did when they were first put in. They are Avonite - similar to Corian.

I feel your pain, but I suggest taking a few days/weeks to get used to them. You might be able to live with it.

Well, we called the carpet place and they said they give a 30 day satisfaction for carpets. We can have it replaced with something of the same value, but we will have to pay the labor, which I think will be around $250. It looks a little different now that it is not so sunny ( we have a lot of windows). But, it still looks bad and makes me dizzy. Both my mom and my DH agreed with me. I am still mad that I made a costly mistake. The sample they gave me was a 3 inch square, so how could I tell by that?

Just a silly little story that will hopefully make you feel better: I love my DSM, but for her open concept ranch house that is otherwise VERY tastefully decorated, she chose the following for carpet...very expensive, custom ordered, wool (so it will last forever), forest green background with HUGE roses/vines all over it in shades of pink and cream! It really truly looks like funeral home carpeting!! She ended up putting tons of huge furniture and large, solid colored area rugs on it to try and "tone it down", but it is truly the ugliest carpeting I've ever seen in my life. (DF tried to talk her into having it ripped up carefully and reselling it TO a funeral home:lmao:.)

So it could be worse, it could be your whole downstairs!

Yes, I am thankful that it is only a small part of the house. We are going to go look at something else today. I am mad at myself that we now will have to pay for the labor again, but I can't live with that pattern. It's not just that it is ugly, it makes me so dizzy.

When we were picking out carpet, they showed us a beautiful remnant (wool) that would have worked for us. It was on clearance too! But then she said it was from a funeral home, so then there was no way I could have that in my house! What a sales lady.

It's only $250. I would pay that for my sanity. Go pick something you know you will like and enjoy the calm of your house again!

We changed our countertops and I knew soon after I had made a color choice mistake. I worked with it, but it always nagged me.

7 yrs later, we changed them out again & updated other small things in the kitchen. I was much happier.

Its been 3 yrs and I still like them a lot better.

Good luck.
