What a GREAT movie!:thumbsup2 I love more independent films like that. Loved the characters.. though was totally creeped out by the pagant and the little girls made to look like 20 year old.. Wow.. :rolleyes1 lol

One of the best comedies I have seen this year. popcorn::

So glad you liked it. We saw it in the theater and walked out saying it was one of the worst movies we've ever seen. And, I am a huge Steve Carrell fan. Different strokes for different folks!

I liked it too but......

Spoiler Alert....

I wish grandpa hadn't died. He was the funniest thing in the movie for me.

I have to agree with you on this! We HATED this movie.

But glad that you liked it. I have heard so many say that they really did like it.

I saw it a few days ago as well. It was a little weird! But then I was laughing the whole time about how weird it was.

We liked it too! The little girl was so darling and the ending was hysterical!!

We loved this movie. The family is about as dysfunctional as they come, but they clearly love each other. The little girl is a natural actor. When she got up and did her dance that her grandpa taught her I though I would wet my pants laughing.:rotfl:

DH and I loved it. I love Toni Collette. And how many movies has she played Greg Kinnear's wife? At least two.

Anyway, the best line is the daughters response to the question "Is your grandpa here with you today?" (or something like that). I won't post the response for spoiler reasons.

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: The dance that followed too, holy cow!!

DH and I watched it the other night and enjoyed it, but we like those slightly off movies. The color blindness got me too. :rotfl:

We saw it too and I hated it. I went because people told me how funny it was. But I found it very uncomfortable. I didn't think they were funny at all. The pageant was waaaay too freaky. I couldn't wait to get out of there. When I told my mother what I thought of the movie she said and I quote "what's wrong with you". She thought it was hysterical.

Whatever...

Dh and I rented this last week and we both thought it was hysterical!:rotfl:
I just had to watch it again before I returned it!

I am with the Loved it crowd.. I actually was laughing out loud in that movie theatre.. it takes a lot for me to laugh at loud..

Loved it!!!!!!!!!

Oh, my gosh, tell me about it! Those girls looked like little plastic dolls. It was the creepiest thing I'd ever seen--big fake smiles and then their eyes would move from side to side. Ick.

DD and I watched this the other night and we both LOVED it. I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen this year.

There is a documentary I watched about pageants.....if you want to talk about scary, you need to see this documentary. I am still in shock over it and the little girl and the Mother, it was sad to watch.

Living Dolls: The Making of a Child Beauty Queen (2001) (TV) is the name of the movie, the little girl's name was Swan and she was so darn cute.....if you get a chance to see this movie, rent it, it is a bit disturbing....

We saw it when it was in the theater and then we rented and watched it on Christmas Eve. I enjoyed it just as much the second time. Our teen DSs liked it too. DSs noticed that Duane kept his arms crossed over his shirt that said "Jesus was ......" Finally there was a shot that allowed you to read the entire shirt for a second. I don't know if it meant anything or not but DSs are into looking for those hidden messages in movies. We also enjoyed watching the alternate endings on the DVD special features.

Karen

Oh-and I agree about most of the other girls in the pageant-they were just creepy.

Man, now I have to check to see what his shirt says!!! :rotfl:

Ok, I may be TOTALY wrong about this... But I got from the movie that the guy with the freaky goatee/mustache biker looking guy at the pagaent was a pedophile...:confused3 Especially when he jumped and cheered after Olives performance. Which wouldn't surprise me why it would attract him since the little girls were made to look by there 'parents' like Miss America hopefulls from the 80's.

My impression of him was that he was completely bored (and possibly even disgusted) with the whole pageant thing. Like he was dragged there. When he got up and cheered he was taking part in their mocking of the pageant.

DH and I loved this movie. I thought I was going to fall out of my seat during the dance.
