I have been checking for the last couple of months for a decent rate for our upcoming trip at the end of November, beginning of December. I really like the rentals on airport property, but have not been having any luck lately with getting a good rate....for our 8 day trip, I couldn't find anything under $200, despite the codes I used.

Well, today I decided to check, and through Alamo, I got a midsize for 8 days, using a membership and coupon ID AD1336ADK for $80, with all taxes, $110. I decided to use the prepay and save to get an additional $10 off (I was really leary about using this service, but to save even more money...ok!). I ended up paying $101 for the car, and with the exchange, got it for $110 (all taxes included) for 8 days! I have NEVER gotten a deal like that, and the thing is, I just have to pick up the car and go....no lines! Now, that's one more thing paid for and I don't have to worry about it when I get there. The only downfall, I am the primary driver - if my BF wants to drive, we have to add him on for an additional $8/day, but no big deal...I know Orlando way better than him anyways. He can be the map holder :rotfl2:. If I happen to find an even better deal, it's a $5 cancellation fee, but for 8 days to get a midsize for that price??? Can't be beat!

Anyways, check out Alamo to see if you can get a good rate - I am SO happy I checked today!

It is a great deal. If you use a Costco or Walmart ID membership number an additional driver is free. You're suppose to be a Costco member to use their number but Walmart's is for anyone. We've used both for our trip because we're renting 2 minivans. I got the best rate so far from Alamo on Friday night. It dropped about $112. from previous rates but haven't been able to use the coupon yet for the first of Nov. Did you check-in online and was it fairly easy even with a coupon etc?

I couldn't get the same deal - it wouldn't let me use my memberhsip id # with everything else....I wanted to skip the lines all together (I figure I'll be standing in line enough throughout my trip!). I was able to get the coupon applied though. I didn't think of Costco, but I just went back in to try again with alamo, and it was more expensive anyways (don't know why). I don't mind not having the additional driver though....my BF doesn't know Orlando, so he'd be probably more comfortable with me driving anyways. Haven't used the check-in online yet....will do that the day before we go.

I booked a car through alamo last week for 8 days in Oct and thought my deal was good, but you beat me by just under $10. I used the Costco link with a coupon for a free upgrade to midsize and got the free additional driver. I checked today and the rates are $145 more then when I booked last week. Keep checking it may come back down so you can add the additional driver for free instead of $8/day.

Wow that is an excellent rate!

I booked my parents not too long ago on a Master Card discount for $98-fullsize upgrade- for 6 days. It always gives one a sense of satisfaction when you get to save that much money, eh?

Thrifty have good deals. I booked a Sebring covertible from Dec 15 thru the 22'nd for $190.00 taxes included

I have used Thrifty in the past, and although I had no problems with them, I didn't like the fact that they were off property. It was painless to get there from the airport...I found the shuttle with no problem, but I had used Alamo the last time from the airport property and just loved that convenience. I did get a good quote from Thrifty too, though. I would have used them if they would have beat the Alamo price.

It's still a short shuttle from what I've read everywhere. I too liked their prices, but when the Alamo rate came out and that I can just walk across to the parking garage and be out of there in minutes, it was an easy choice. Last time I picked up a car at MCO, I walked over to the QS booth and had all my paperwork done in 2mins, with no line.

Thanks for the info!

I don't have a trip planned, but am giving a little thought to the first week of Dec. Since there is no cost to make the reservation, I went ahead and reserved the car for $96.96, total, for 7 days. If we end up not being able to make the trip I will cancel online.

I just checked the Alamo rates for March and they border on the ridiculous! 478.92 for an economy car and that is with the Wal-Mart codes.....I think not! I will stick to my Dollar reservation for a MINI-VAN for 525.72. Even at that price, I am hoping that come January 2008, the rates will drop! :rolleyes1

I didn't know Alamo had a Mastercard rate...is there a code??

Thank you

Yes, there is a code for mastercard. For codes, go to mousesavers.com. I don't know the mastercard deal off the top of my head.

FYI We always get a great deal on Hertz through the AMA/CAA website for car rentals.

My apologies. You are right. Thrift is offsite. I just phoned them. I was thinking of Budget. They are way too much. Dollar is at 180.60 without taxes. Is the ride to Thrifty worth saving $25 or should I book through Dollar. Thanks

I told my BF this time that if it was a difference of $30 of less, I wouldn't waste my time....that being said, it depends on you. I thought, just for myself, that it was a waste of time to take the shuttle there and back to the airport. I really like the convenience of the on airport property rentals, plus with Alamo, you can prepay and check in, so you can just go out to the parking lot, get your car, and leave. Thrifty, you take the shuttle, and then you have to wait in line, etc. I thought, for myself, I was too impatient and wanted to get out and avoid the lines as much as possible....we will have to deal with lines the whole time we are there, so why start off that way? But then again, it depends on you...
As for Dollar, I don't know alot about that company as I have never booked with them.

What I like about Alamo is that you can pick the car you want from the aisle with the particular size that you've reserved. We used to always rent from a place off site because we didn't want to deal with the airport traffic but the last few years we've done onsite and it's very easy.

That depends on you!! For myself, I want to get my car and get to the MK asap!!! That means only packing a carry on for this trip. I've also been stuck in a line for over an hour at a car rental counter twice. Once was at Alamo at LAX and the other was at Thriffy at MCO. I guess it depends on when your flight gets in, and what day you arrive. We landed at 1pm and the airport was packed!!!
Maybe post in the transportation board, and ask what Thriffy is like on the day of the week and approx time you will be arriving. Somebody on these boards always seems to have an answer(might not be the one your looking for).
ps I wasn't looking for an apoligy, just trying to help:confused3 :thumbsup2 :confused3
