Opossum in my yard.

It's poor little eyes were looking up at me. We have about a 3/4 acre fenced in, so I don't know if a cat jumped over the fence and got it, or my Weimaraner got it last night when I let him out at 4AM to do his business!

I know people hate these little critters and consider them a nuisance, but it's still a living creature that really causes no harm to anyone, or anything.

It wasn't even full grown poor little thing. :( :( :(

:( Poor little thing. Aren't oppossum's what's hanging upside down from a tree on Splash Mountain? I always think they're so cute.

Awww, those things scare me to death (city girl that I am!) but I still think it sad that one is dead in your yard!

So, ummm, what will you DO with it?

Poor baby! There was a baby opossum in our tree outside once and we never saw it again. They are very very common down here. Poor thing.

Kathy, I hate to find dead things in the yard like that.:( I don't think I'd be able to dispose of it myself.:o

Judi, I'm a country girl and those things scare me to death. I see them and think rabies.

I used the shovel (that I clean up doggy diamonds with) to lift it off the ground, then threw it over the fence!

(there's a common area that's all filled in now with brush and bushes.) I didn't know what else to do with it!

This is the second "dead thing" in a week. A few days ago, it was a Blue Jay! My poor dog couldn't go out there without the other Blue Jays swooping down on him! I guess they thought he was responsible (and he may be!)

Aw, poor little critter. :( We have those here too, one time I found one on our back porch, happily munching away on the cat food I had just put out for the cats a few minutes earlier. I had to shoo him away, with the broom, so my kitties could have their dinner.

I walk the dogs fairly late at night some days and I have run into or seen raccons and opossums on the walk.

I would check with animal control. Sometimes dead animals are a sign of a rabbis outbreak in the area and they need to know.

I ran over one once.

It was the most sickening thing I have ever seen. Yuck.

I hate to ask this question, but are you sure it was dead? :o The only defense a possum has is to "play dead". They go into a shock like trance when they are scared. Could it be that you scared it, or the dog scared it and it got defensive? The trance can last a little while too.

Those things freak me out....they look prehistoric to me.
