We stay deluxe at WDW but have yet to pay over $200 a night with tax.
Yet for our DL trip the cheapest DL hotel room is $282 per night.
We are staying at the Hilton for $102 per night w/ tax during Thanksgiving. I just can't spend the money. The Hilton is a 1st class hotel and has a convienent shuttle (we have stayed there twice before) So although it is my dream to stay at the DL hotel I don't want to spend 1100 for a 4 night trip.
Just curious what everyone else thinks?

I don't blame you...I am someone who has to stay on-site at WDW, but I believe DL is a completley different animal, in every way. I've been to DL many times over the last 8 years, but only stayed "onsite" once. Although it was great, I don't feel like I HAVE to stay onsite there, like I do at WDW. This year we are splurging though, staying 4 nights at GC. I think it still comes out to over $200 per night, but it's a theme-park view, one night free (Fall Getaway), plus a DC discount.

Normally we stay at HoJo or Best Western in the area. Just as a side-note...this year there were some excellent rates at PP, and some at DLH on sites like travelocity and expedia. PP was as low as $120 per night. No deals at GC though, at least none that I could find.

For me, staying onsite at DL is more of the exception than the norm!

We just returned from 1 week at the Best Western Park Place Inn. Like you, we have always stayed on site at WDW. Also like you, we just couldn't justify spending that kind of money to be on site at DL. The way the parks and motels are set up, all being so close, you don't loose the Disney feel. Staying right across the street from the entrance was so convienent, it was 5 minutes from our room to inside the parks. It doesn't get any better than that. We'd rather save the money towards another trip.

for the good "review" of BW Park Place! We have ressies there next month and have heard good things about it, so we are giving it a try. Glad it worked out for you.

Thanks,
this is our 10-11th trip.....lost count.......and we have stayed at many of the area motels/hotels but never DL hotel. I have not found any deals at the 3 hotels at all.
but then we are going over thanksgiving too.

I'm surprised Disney can keep their room rates so high when they are surrounded by good quality hotels for 1/4 the cost.
We stayed in the Desert Inn and enjoyed it. We hardly were in our room anyway. At $200+ a night, I would feel I have to stay on the resort to try to get my money's worth!
