I feel so fo:upsidedowolish. I read a thing on the internet (of course :badpc: I'll stick to the trusty cookbook from now on) about how to make baked potatoes in the microwave.

Quote from site:
"A very simple but excellent method is in the microwave...I know what
your thinking but please give it a shot. Spray a large plastic bag, I
use the ones the potatoes are in from the grocery store, with olive
oil or vegetable spray, sprinkle the potatoes with salt, place them in
the plastic bag , place the bag of potatoes in the microwave and tuck
the open end of the bag underneath the potatoes and nuke them for 15
to 20 minutes"

I thought- how convenient! :thumbsup2 It would save me some time in the afternoons when I get home from work. I decided to give it a try today to see how it would work. Luckily I tried it with only one potato... I think maybe my microwave is more powerful than I thought it was!!! That and i put it in for 20 mins without really realizing that she probably cooks way more than 1 or two spuds, but before i knew it I smelled smoke and when I got to the microwave i stopped it and opened it carefully and more smoke poured out and the fire alarm went off! so embarrasing, I don't know why I was so ******** while doing this, but i figure if anything I'm a lesson to everyone out there. It smells like I'm living in a brushfire! Very fitting for Central FL.

I guess thats what I get for being lazy this afternoon! I was watching Ellen as well so I was distracted from the kitchen hehe :sad2:

I'm sooo embarrassed  please tell me others here have had cooking mishaps, where maybe common sense escaped you too? At least we all have a place to confess our mistakes! I needed to get this off my brain. Although, with the smell of smoke everywhere i don't think I'll be forgetting it anytime soon. Also Dbf is coming home in 10 minutes, I won't here the end of this for a week! or a month!

I once cooked a canned ham and left the plastic wrap on it. I'd never seen a canned ham, my mom didn't cook them. I took it out of the can and just didn't realise it was plastic wrapped. It looked beautiful too. I glazed it, put the pineapple on it and everything. You'd never know I'd later become a chef :)

I cannot cook popcorn in the microwave without it burning. Black smoke always comes billowing out of the bag, smells up the whole house :crazy2:
Now on the other hand dd7 makes a perfect bag of microwave popcorn. She doesn't have the patients to wait until the time is up and stops it just before it gets to the burning stage :hyper:

DD7 tried cooking her own ramen noodles in the microwave. She only put them in for 2 minutes.....the problem was she didn't put ANY water in the bowl first! I was in the bathroom and the other kids came in hollering about the black smoke. That was 2 1/2 weeks ago and we still haven't gotten the smell out of the microwave or kitchen. Any ideas????

My mom once burned eggs in the microwave. Actually, they exploded. lol
She was trying to boil them and they didn't like the microwave. :)
