Thought I would share.
I did some playing around with Orbitz.
My dates were Jan 4-12. (8 nights)
I used the code packyourbags - for those entire dates - total was 2975.00. (371/nt)

I put in Jan 4-8 and 8-12- using the discount twice - total was 2662.00 (332/nt)

I split it Jan 4-7 and 7-12 - using the discount twice - total was 2420.00!!! (302.50/nt)

It seemed to be that magic night of the 8th, which is a prime night for the marathon.

Thought I would share - pretty darn happy with this deal!

If you have a night that takes in that Jan 8 date- play with your reservations to get better deals!

So how are you going to handle the check in and check out? Seems like a hassle since you won't know if they have to move you to another room. Totally worth it for 500 bucks but didn't know with the marathon if it was worth the issues of moving etc.

Well $500 is what my airfare cost - so its worth it to me and its not a big deal to me if they make us move- but Im think its easier on them and us if when we check in we tell them we split the reservation and I am thinking they will just keep us there, and I will just have to visit the front desk for paperwork - no big deal at all and $500 USD is about $750 Canadian - worth it to me!

More than likely she won't have to move. Just when checking in tell you have another reside #. Just have to go down and check back in. Easy to do. We have done this in the past and worked like a charm.

Yep I have done it in the past too - and for $750 - well that paid for my plane tickets!!! Super excited- we were booked at Pop on S/P/D and I was dying to upgrade to deluxe - glad I found the deal!

I tried breaking up my CBR trip and it ends up being more expensive. Traveling 1/3-1/14, at CBR, the way to get the best price at Orbitz is to book it as a single trip even though the Orbitz discount ends up higher.

you might have tried this but i'd think you'd need to split into 4 trips with that long date range ... basically once you hit the $150 max discount per trip ... and that's a lot of potential room switching!

I tried it many different ways, and I still got the most savings as a single booking.

To minimize the chances of room switching, call the resort about 1 week before arrival and tell them you have a continuing reservation and ask them to mark it that way. That will tell the room assigners to keep you in the same room. You still will have to check out and back in at the front desk to get the new room keys, but that's not a big deal. And every once in a while you'll get a CM who will do the checkin/checkout for you and send the new keys to your room. Don't count on that, though - it's not common.

If you are using Magic Bands there is no need for a room key. I have done 3 separate trips in the last year with split stays at the same resort and never had to get new bands, keys, etc. nor change rooms.

That's pretty great. And you didn't need to show up at the front desk to do the checkout and checkin? Did you check in for the second segment online?

I still went to the front desk. I did online check in for both parts of the stay. When I initially arrived I asked if I was in the same room or would have to move. I have never had to change rooms, but YMMV.

So how does that work with MDE? Is it easy to put in two different confirmation codes?

I signed up online for MDE and on my first reservation it allowed me to put both incoming and outgoing flight info on that and I got a confirmation :)

Oh sorry thought you meant Magical Express.. LOL.
Yes I put in both into My Disney experience no problem.

To everyone who booked with the packyourbags discount: Check Orbitz again today. They're having an even better sale than last week's. The promo code is 48HRSALE (so I think it might expire tonight, since it started yesterday). I saved another $117 off the exact same room I'd booked on Friday.
