This afternoon, I was called into my bosses office and was told that I no longer had a job effective TODAY! I have been at the office for 15 years and have been the accountant for the last 2 years. When I took over as the accountant I got minimal training and had to learn alot of it on my own.
I realize now that my previous boss had actually set me up to fail. He was a real jerk. (That's another story in itself). On this year's audit the CPA found a deposit in Quickbooks that had not cleared. The deposit showed up on December's statement, but was dated for last April. There is no other paperwork for this deposit such as a deposit slip, payment made in our campaign software etc. It was a very odd amount and did not help balance the bank statement or anything else. Then the mail hasn't been picked up everyday and so some bills were not paid on the two dates that we pay them (1st & 15th).
I have been under alot of stress with everything at work because I found things that were supposed to be done, that weren't but I did not know they were to be done. As I said I did not get alot of training. Some things were just touched on and no real detail was given for them. Last year I had to figure out some things myself and made detailed notes for them, so that I could do them again this year.
They did give me a severance package, but still it is really depressing to be let go after all this time. I have really tried my best and there have been some very trying, stressful times with this job.
I had a feeling something was up when some one called a couple months back saying that another person had recommended they contact my boss about some accounting work. Then another person brought in her resume'. They also did not give me my performance review in May. What really bugs me is that they gave me no warning on this. Did not tell me that they had a problem with my work or anything.
All I know is that even though I had made a book to cover some of the things to do with my job, it does not cover everything, so in a couple months, they are going to have some problems and lots of questions and they will probably be calling me with them. I will have no problem telling them I can't help them.
