I highly recommend keeping your trip a secret

I wonder why I can't see it? It just comes up a blank page? Hmm.

I'd like to do this with dd5 for our next trip. I don't know if I could do it though!

That was great!!! I don't know how you did it for 9 months!!!

Our trip in two weeks is a surprise for the kids! They have no idea. I have told them they have a dentist appt. & I will take them to school afterwards. We plan on letting them know when we drive through the airport gates!!

Nice idea in principle. But I think the anticipation is also good. Our kids created a "countdown" calendar to cross off each day before the holiday.

Great video!

So funny you'd post about this, because this week we just decided to do an April trip :cool1: and were discussing whether or not to tell our daughters. I was leaning towards keeping it a secret, now I definitely know I want to! Hopefully I can keep my mouth shut til then!

Awwww! I love how your DD is sitting there and suddenly stands up and screams. Took a while for it to kick in.... love it!!!

Can't help but notice your accents... are you from SC or GA?

we have NEVER told our kids when we were going to Disney or on a cruise. We alwyas surprise them and it is the BEST! It is SO hard to keep the secret, but SO worth it when they are not expecting it! We make up silly stories about having to go for business meetings or picking someone up at the airport. A few times we have taken g-pa with us and we told the kids we were taking him to the airport (helps to explain all the luggage!!)

We did it once and it was awesome, it was jut myself and my dd's as dh couldn't get time off.

He often went on business trips so one morning we just said we had to head out to the airport before school and off we went. After we arrived at the airport we got all the luggage out and as they went to kiss him goodbye he said "surprise" I am going back home and you two and mom are going to Disneyworld. It was really fun!!

All week they kept saying, I can't believe I am here, this is soo cool etc.

Although I wouln't do it again because my older DD LOVES to help plan the trip and it gives her something to look forward to I am glad we did it once.

Great video! I absolutely love how your son scooted away so your daughter couldn't read over his shoulder! My kids do stuff like that all the time! We surprised them last trip by wrapping our announcement at Christmas. It was a great surprise. This time we enlisted them in the planning, which was also fun. Good job on fooling them!

We've done this once before and it was really fun to see them get excited (although that time we said we were going to dinner in the city--about 40 minutes away and listened to DD complain about how she didn't want to go. I said "Where would you like to go instead?" and predictably, she said "Disney". We timed the question so that she would answer just as we got to the airport exit. Dh said, "Well, ok....just this once and turned off toward the airport." DD couldn't believe we were serious until we were actually on the plane.

She still talks about it...

That is such a great story. Love it!!

I love the video too. DS has been to WDW 2x's now and keeps telling us he wants to go back. We have a trip planned the Dec with my parents and we are not going to tell him about it. When we went in April '08 he wouldn't stop asking when we were going, even with the countdown chain. It drove me batty. It seems to be impossible to explain anything to him with valid reasons. He just doesn't get it yet. I'm giddy with excitement and looking forward to it but I can't handle hearing him talk about it for 2 weeks let alone nearly 10 months. So mums the word!!

That is so awesome! I would love to surprise my kids with our trip, but they don't really know what DisneyWorld is yet. When we go at Christmas, they will be 3 1/2 and a month shy of 5.

Cute! I love how your son gives that little "almost" hug to his sister.

Thanks for posting this.

We hope to do the same for our daughter who is turning 16 a week earlier. For the last few years I have tried to plan parties but because her bday is in the summer it is hard as friends are always on vacation. We have told her that we are going to Disney World and staying at the GF but she doesn't know that we are only there for 2 nights and then we are off for the 7 night on the Magic. I have to figure out how to surprise her. I was thinking of having a CM deliver a note to her or escort her to the limo that we are planning on picking us up. But I havn't thought more yet. Suggestions welcomed.......I have a lot of time to plan as we aren't going until August. I almost slipped the other day when I was asking how much money she had saved and said she would want to have a certain amount for the cruise and she said cruise? I quickly recovered as I said you know trip to WDW... and that the last vacation we had was the cruise. I showed her that we were using our DVC points and how much it was going to cost us for the GF for the week but her father really wanted to stay there so we would be pointless for another year. She thought it was great that we would be at the GF as she has wanted to go there also. She's been going to WDW forever and has been on several cruises. We were wanting to do Hawaii but with the long flights and the cost of points we decided against and DH said is this what I really wanted to do and of course a cruise is the best IMHO. And to say the least she really wants to have a great tan before starting school.
