I have ugly blue counters in my kitchen.

I saw this product at Lowes today.... it will set me back $250 but it will be cheaper than replacing them.

Any reviews?

Modern masters countertop transformations

search the budget board for "countertops"...there was a thread several months ago regarding "re-doing" your own counters and I am almost positive that product was talked about. There were some really great pictures posted by those that did it, too. I thought the makeovers were wonderful...I am doing it myself this month...

I'm not sure about the product you posted, but do you have a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store in your area? You could find a lot of materials leftover or donated by local businesses.

I read the reviews from the link someone posted, and it doesn't sound too bad. Just bear in mind something can always go terribly wrong! I don't know what your budget is, but how about granite tiles? I've seen it done with black granite, and black grout, and it looks fantastic, and relatively inexpensive.

thanks y'all. I've lived with these counters for 12 years...... so I'm not in a huge hurry to change them. I'm gonna keep on doing some research. Thanks!

I just got new counter tops from Lowes and love them. they are premade, and the corner is cut so you just have to butt them together and put in the screws under the cabinet. I also ran a bead of caulk just in case.
these counters already have the backsplash built on so you don't have to add that. I bought an 8 ft and a 6 ft and it cost me about $300.
I like the looks of the paint on countertop but all I can think of is that if they are the least bit greasy or not totally cleaned and sanded the way they are supposed to the stuff will peel off eventually.

Do the painted countertops really look that different than those formica countertops that are premade to *look* like granite?

We're having our kitchen countertops redone. We went with the fomica that looks like granite and subway tiles. It's an apt. so we didn't want to sink too much $$$ into it w/the granite tops. They put the countertop in on Friday and it looks VERY nice. We're VERY pleased with the outcome. Now can't wait to see how the subway tiles look.

I redid the counter tops at our beach house a few years ago with tile.

1. Rough up the surface of the exisiting formica.
2. Apply tile mastic to each tile and lay them evenly.
3. Grout. I used unsanded because it's very easy to clean-just spray clorox.

It took a day. I found some cute fish tiles at Home Depot. It cost about $200 for the whole kitchen and the area behind the stove.

for what its worth the product you posted looks interesting. But I'd still check diy network for some ideas. You could always tile your counter top for about the same price. Or you may find granite or marble that someone else didn't want that you only have to have cut to fit. I'd look for either a reclaimed re purposed home markets or home salvage company. Sometimes you'll find exactly what you want for a fraction of the cost.

Wow! I din't know you could do that. We rent a condo at the beach and they have the cutest tiles. Some are plain but they are interspersed with adorable fish tiles. I've always wanted something similar but thought it would cost a fortune. Thanks for telling us this.
