So I have to get my driver's license renewed! Now I take all kinds of paper with me! I have heard horror stories of people here in NJ getting there license renewed!

The new point system.

Must provide "Original" not copies! I hope I have everything. Heck I would not be surprised if they do not want to know what time I ever first pooped in my diaper and who cleaned it! :rotfl2:

Off to the DMV :moped: :moped: :moped:

I have to go in June and get my renewed. You can go on the site and it will tell you what you need to bring and how many points. I think it is 6 points. I think you can bring your old license, social security card, insurance card or marriage license and birth certificate and have enough points. I'm not sure.

The NJ DMV was a piece of cake compared to what I had to deal with here in NY when we moved a couple of months ago. Let's just say 3 trips to the DMV and $1,000 later, my car is registered.

Good luck at any rate!

Really it wasn't all that bad. The worst one was the marriage license. Make sure that is the original not the pink carbon copy that the minister signs after the ceremony.

The marriage license is issued by the county, not the minister/official.

I had everything (and then some) and it was a piece of cake.

It was easy once you had all the paperwork. I needed to get a copy of my first marriage license and mailed away for it. I had a copy of my divorce decree. Then I needed a copy of the 2nd marriage license, and just drove locally to get it.

Once there, the line was really short, and it went quickly.

Good luck!

I had no problem, but felt sorry for the poor man in front of me. He was in his eighties and had no idea where his birth certificate was and wasn't sure that the place he was born in was recording birth certificates when he was born.

It was easy for me, thank goodness, just showed my birth & marriage certs and they accepted their own renewal notice to me as proof of address (although I did bring along the cable bill- all the other utilities are in dh's name.)

But there were a lot of other people there who were very confused. One older gentleman kept going from line to line because it was pretty unorganized in there. He ended up behind me i the check-in line and I let him go ahead just to maybe help him stay in the right spot- fortunately the woman at the check in desk was very helpful.

I brought a whole stack of things with me and had no problems. I had my birth certificate, passport, old liscense, bank statement, insurance card, electric bill etc. The process was easy and it really didn't take that long. But I usually go mid-week in the middle of the month.

This is why we all went and got passports! 4 points right off the bat!

Why does NJ and NY make it that difficult?

Here we just renew on line if we want to keep the same picture, or if you go in person, you just need the expiring license. We just have to make sure you get the license renewed BEFORE the expiration date (or else they make us take another road test! :guilty: )

Because there has been a lot of fraud with fake licenses out there. Some of the terrorists on 9/11 had NJ licenses.
