Do you tell your server you are on the dining plan at the beginning of your meal? Or when you are ready to pay?

I would say at the beginning would be more beneficial. That way they can keep your bill straight instead of going back and correcting it later.

Im just asking because of the tipping factor. I hate to be rude but Im going to be annoyed if I get crappy service because the servers know they will get 15% tip no matter what service they give me.

You will also be annoyed if you have to wait extra time for them to re-figure your ticket in order to redeem your MYWD credits. I plan to make it a point to put some cash on the table to hopefully entice some better service. Not to lure, because I will honestly tip more for good service. I hardly ever tip the minimum 15% so hopefully they will notice that they have the oppurtunity to earn extra tip money. I don't know that it will work, anyone tried this??

No actually, I won't be annoyed to have to wait, things like that don't bother us. But the tipping for bad service will. Don't get me wrong, it's not going to ruin my trip and the plan is a great value.

Anyone that has used the plan, how did you do it? Thanks :)

We used the plan a couple of weeks ago and were happy with our service. I always told the servers that we were using the Plan right upfront to make things easier on them as far as working the order and computers. With the exception of feeling rushed at one buffet breakfast (a meal you wouldn't expect the same level of service as at a sit-down anyway - the server was friendly, but we still felt rushed) we had extremely friendly and excellent service. Servers cheerfully explained what was included on the Plan and stayed helpful and friendly through the meal.

With a child on the Plan, telling the servers actually worked to our advantage several times. It seems that at many of the TS places, the kids are entitled to an adult appetizer - this was nice when she was especially hungry.... or when I was.... or when we just wanted to try two different things. Also, some minor items (specialty coffees) were not included.

I would let the server know upfront so that there is no confusion about what is or is not included. If you get lousy service, I doubt it will be because of the 15% but some other issue and you can always talk to a manager.

We returned yesterday. We never told them until the bill came. No problems, and no long wait for them to return. No longer than if we would have had it charged to room.

Thanks for the heads up. It's always nice to know what to expect, I will still tip over and above the 15% for apropriate service though.

The official brochure states:
"Present your Key to the World card to your server prior to ordering so your server knows to charge meals to your Disney Dining Plan. This will save time at checkout. Gratuities/service charges for Table Service meals are already included in your Disney Dining Plan.

Hope this helps. We are planning on tipping extra for our table service meals unless the service is horrible.

We just got back and I always told the server upon ordering because I wanted to know up front if anything was excluded from the plan- like at concourse steakhouse the shrimp skewers added to any meal for $9.99 was not included- but they did include smoothies- i found most servers to become nonexistent after knowing we were on the plan- service for us was very slow but the restaraunts were very crowded so i am not sure if the plan really had anything to do with it- for example at LTT the server started out real attentive and then after she knew we were on the plan i practically had to flag her down- again, i could be reading into this since another post didn't have such experiences- I was so thrilled at CRT to have fast and attentive service that i tipped extra but this was the only place i did so- it was hard dining through a slow served 3 course meal with a 2 year old so i did appreciate it when we didn't have to wait forever.
