I have perfected the art of taking pictures of myself...the solo disney trip report!

Hi Everyone. I'm back! Sorry for taking so long. My family's trying to figure out where to go on our vacation next year. My mom and I were so excited because we were going to take a "Christmas" trip in January..then my dad informed us that he wouldn't have any vacation time then. So we're planning on doing the DCL land/sea package in August. I think I have successfully turned my family into Disney Nuts (muw-hahaha...my wicked plan is complete :rotfl2: )

OK! So back to the trip report.

On Saturday I reserved a spot on the 830 Keys to the Kingdom tour. I probably can't say a lot about it...because that would just ruin the tour for those of you who haven't taken it yet. But it was HILARIOUS. Our tour guide was really into Disney and he took us on the jungle cruise (b/c haunted mansion is closed) and "backstage" behing splash mountain, etc. My favorite moment of the entire trip was seeing a guy cleaning cinderella's carriage (parade float) and break dancing. I mean this guy was DIRTY DANCING with a broom. Our group probably spent like 5 minutes just watching him and he never noticed.
The tour was great fun and next time I want to do the all day one. Plus don't forget your AAA discount. It only cost $51 for me.

Unfortunately you can't take pictures on the tour. But it's still a lot of fun (and you learn a lot about Walt).

After the tour I was tired. So guess what I decided to do? Go back to POR and take a nap. I can't remember what day it was, but one day I woke up from a nap and my from neck down all over my chest (sorry for the TMI) I was BRIGHT red. Now, I'm a bit chocolate...so it was REALLY red for me to be *bright* red and itchy. I think something bit me, because now (like 2 weeks later) I have this big bite mark at the bottom of my neck. Other than that I nothing bad happened at POR (except for when my fridge wouldn't cool....but then a HOT maintence guy came to fix it, so you know wasn't a problem  )

No Park had EMH that night, so I planned on going to Fantasmic. But by the time I got there (and rode the ride that's about Star Wars- forgot what it's called), the show was standing room only.

So I headed to DTD, got dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express (the BBQ Chicken pizza is great!) and window shopped a bit. Then headed back to the hotel for the night.

Day 5: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Magic Kingdom again!

So this was my last full day at WDW :sad1: And I had yet to actually go on any rides at Magic Kingdom. So I woke up somewhat early and go to the park around 10.

The first ride I headed to was buzz lightyear. I'd never been on it before and it was cute, a lot of fun! Then I headed to Monster's inc laugh factory (?) and that was just hilarious. Except for the line because one of those tour groups were so LOUD. Now I'm all about diversity and different cultures, but let me tell you by Day 5 I seriously wanted to shoot every Italian/South American youth tour group in football shirts...because they would.not.stop.singing!

Ok-back to my magical vacation

After that, I headed to Peter Pan. I wanted to try this out in May but the line was insanely long. This time there was hardly a line and I only waited about 10 minutes. It was very cute, but I don't see why people would wait over an hour to go on it.

After Peter Pan I headed to my favorite ride:

(wait for it)

(the suspense is killing you...isn't it?)

What can I say? I'm a wimp when it comes to rides! I LOVE It's a Small World and ride it multiple times each trip :) Am I the only one who thought the part at the end when all the children are in white was heaven? I was like why did they die!

So after small world I went on Pirates of the Carribean. And just to show you how much I hate thrill rides, you know the tiny hill you go down? Yea, I close my eyes and grip boat on that!

After POTC I went to get a Dole float (my favorite! But like the Keys to the Kingdom tour guide says...you have to bring your own vodka :) and the cast member didn't take my room card and simply said Happy Birthday! What's better than a dole float? A FREE Dole float.

After eating my float I headed into Hall of Presidents. I LOVE this show (you know you're a poli sci major when...). And that was it! Magic Kingdom has pretty much no lines and only takes half a day when you don't like anything remotely scary :lmao:

After Magic Kingdom, I took the monorail (I got to ride in the front!) to Epcot and rode Spaceship Earth (I'm glad I did since they closed it the next day so they could start taking down the wand), Mission:Space (the non-spinning version..I only waited about 10 minutes!), tried Club Cool (different Cokes from around the world) several times...cheaper than buying a drink!, Did Living with the Land and sent home a video from "outer space".

After that I was tired, so I headed back to POR for a nap. I woke up around 7 and headed to MGM for Fantasmic. Fantasmic was GREAT, but I think the fire was bit too close, my hair products are flammable you know!

After Fantasmic I was not ready to go back to POR for my last night :( , so I decided to take the boat to Boardwalk:

I looked around for a bit and realized Magic Kingdom was having EMH that night, so I headed back and rode Jungle Cruise and Aladdin's Magic Carpet ride (that could be considered a thrill ride...right?).

Then I got Cosmic Rays for a late dinner and headed back to POR.

Next:
Day 6: Epcot, one last dream,

So Monday finally rolled around and it was my last day! I woke up early enough to repack my stuff and call the luggage people (bell services?) to pick up my bags so I could head back to the parks.

Magical Express was going to pick me up at 5, so I had enough time to visit the World Pavillion.

The first thing I did was ride the boat at Norway (now THAT thing is scary. What's up with the backwards part at the end and that hill?). When I was getting off the boat, they gave us all Year of a Million Dreams ears:

(excuse the picture, it was hot, humid and I was TIRED)

After looking around some more I went to Morrocco for an early lunch. I had a chicken wrap meal. It was very good (and light. perfect for a summer day).

After that I took left Epcot, took the first bus that came (I wanted to go to Downtown Disney) and ended up at Old Key West. So I then took a boat to DTD.

I did some last minute shopping and remembered I had a $15 voucher to Planet hollywood from AAA. I decided to go there so I could get some food for the ride home. Now, technically you can't get take out with this voucher. But you can get a table, eat a little bit and then get a doggy bag. After that I headed back to POR where I read magazines in the bar/lobby area until it was time to catch the ME bus.

I had a wonderful trip and am so glad I decided to go alone. It was just a fun and different experience than going with a group. I was most afraid of eating alone, and I couldn't really tell a difference, with the exception that it doesn't take nearly as long to eat out when you're by yourself. Also, I felt really safe at Disney by myself and didn't mind staying at the parks late at night.

I really reccomend taking a tour, seeing La Nouba, and eating lunch at Wolfgang Puck express. Also, if you have a AAA card, window shop throughout the park but wait until you visit World of Disney in DTD to buy your souvenirs. You get a 10% discount off of any purchase over $50, so it really can save you money.

My only disney complaint are the couple of weird comments from cast members about traveling alone and the fact that Disney has NO black (or any ethnic) My Disney Girl dolls. I looked for them everywhere and finally asked guest services and was told they just don't have any. :(

Other than that I had a great trip and can't wait to go again!!

Was it Copper River Salmon? If so then it is from Alaska and where I am:yay: . Alaskan wild salmon is the best, but being from here where we can catch as many as we want I never eat when on vacation:lmao:

That's what it was!

Sounds like you had a fabulous trip! I've traveled alone and it is wonderful just doing whatever you want whenever you want - I highly recommend it!

Love the pic of you in the mickey ears!

Thanks for sharing your trip with us!

Thank you for sharing your solo trip. I really enjoyed reading your report.
You are hilarious!!

OK- a couple of comments on rides. It was terribly humid and hot...why didnt you ride TTA? This is a calm non-thrill ride where you get to sit for about 10 min and you can catch one of the only breezes you might find in WDW on a humid day!! Just a thought. Also, what happened to Carousel of Progress? You being a non-thrill ride kinda girl I am surprised not tohear these 2 rides.
Your trip reprots have been great! Thank you so much for sharing!!!

Thanks for your trip report. I've realy enjoyed, I don't know if I would have dared do a solo trip, but now I've read your report I might give it a try, if I could just get the kids to grow up first :)

I'm surprised to hear they didn't have any black my Disney Girl dolls, when I looked for one for my dd we couldn't find a blonde one, and I am sure we saw some ethnic ones at the time.

I couldn't find it!!!

Hi Renee,

Jud from MFL here...

Enjoyed your TR and pics!

"Sidenote: Can someone please tell me why I needed two fully packed large suitcases AND a carryon AND a backpack style purse if I was only gone for 5 nights???"

Ah... female??? LOLOL!!!

"I could have sworn I had ridden for an hour, and was all proud of my athletic prowess... then when I went to pay the cast member looked at her watch and said "Oh you weren't hardly gone that long... you don't owe me anything." Big head... deflated. So I decided my body REALLY needed some extra calories and headed to the food court."

Okay... now read that again- see anything there you might want to rethink? hehehehehee...

"I got a mufalato, carrot cake and a drink. If you don't know what a mufalato is... it's a big sandwhich that's olivey and has deli meat. I've only had them in New Orleans..."

Ah! So you *should* have known better! Never been to N'awlins myself, but my friend there explained that to me- the whole thing is the bread and they simply don't get that anywhere else... N'awlins has *it's* magic... a bit diff than the Disney magic...

"I had the shephereds pie, dalky duo and a creme brulee. I honestly did not eat much of anything. It just wasn't good."

Awwwww... bummer! For the record, over at KSC, they have "Alan Sheppard Pie" and it is really good!

"I went to the gift shop and purchased these..."

LOL!!!

"Yes Yall. I am now an owner of those ugly shoes. And the really sad part is they are SO comfortable I don't even care if they're ugly or match nothing I own anymore..."

See! I said that: anything so ugly HAS to be real good for so many people, especially women, to be wearing them!

"They were shocked to find out that I'd never been on any Disney roller coasters and didn't plan on going to Expedition Everest that day."

Oh my... now I know why you didn't dare post this on MFL! You know this is not allowed...

"What can I say. It's not the scare factor of the ride, it's my worrisome mind think- this is foolish, I'm going to fall off, I'm going to break down..."

Ah, I believe that is called... the scare factor??? hehehehehee...

"So after small world I went on Pirates of the Carribean. And just to show you how much I hate thrill rides, you know the tiny hill you go down? Yea, I close my eyes and grip boat on that!"

Oh my! We have some serious work to do!

"The first thing I did was ride the boat at Norway (now THAT thing is scary. What's up with the backwards part at the end and that hill?). When I was getting off the boat, they gave us all Year of a Million Dreams ears."

HOLD ON NOW!!!! You, self-confessed ride weeny, ride that wimpy little boat ride in Norway and get Years Ears???? The universe is not fair! Those should be mine!!!!

:)

"I had a wonderful trip and am so glad I decided to go alone. It was just a fun and different experience than going with a group."

Yep! And well done on doing it, girl!

"I was most afraid of eating alone, and I couldn't really tell a difference, with the exception that it doesn't take nearly as long to eat out when you're by yourself."

And as you noted, you get to talk to lots of people!

"My only disney complaint are the couple of weird comments from cast members about traveling alone"

That is strange! Usually, well, this was back a few years, when I am alone they would go out of their way to be extra nice and make sure I enjoyed myself.

"and the fact that Disney has NO black (or any ethnic) My Disney Girl dolls. I looked for them everywhere and finally asked guest services and was told they just don't have any."

That is surprising. Heck- you know what??? There is no gift shop at the exit of Small World! Wow! And that would be the perfect place for all sorts of ethnic dolls! Marketing! Hello? hehehehehee...

:)

"Carosel of Progress: I couldn't find it!!!"

Tsk tsk tsk... maybe your fear of Space Mountain kept you from looking that way, but it is to the left of Buzz Lightyear!

Thanks for the report!

:)

Jud

Just finished reading your whole report :rotfl: :rotfl2: You are too funny!! If I read the words... "went back to nap" again I was going to p p p myself! As someone who sleeps a lot here, in WDW I just can't do that LOL! I wish I could but my body won't relax that long!

Sounds like you had such fun! :goodvibes I sure hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we did reading about it :goodvibes

I loved your report and can relate to most of what you said. I have done solo Disney several times and it IS a fabulous time! And, I also love the slower rides and attractions and have always liked small world. I will ride the coasters but they are not my favorites at all. I would do small world, haunted mansion, and similar classic rides multiple times in a row!
I have been on two Disney cruises and one was solo. It was fantastic but, like you, several people seemed shocked that I was alone and they seemed to think I was very strange. Maybe I am but it was great having a cabin and veranda all to myself! :yay:

What a great trip report. I loved the pictures. Going solo is great, I had the great fortune of doing a couple of days solo last summer and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. In fact, I read in a magazine recently that solo vacations are on the rise.

I too just back and will do a trip report by the end of the week. I felt the same as you about the tour groups, they didn't really bother me at the beginning of the week but by the weeks end I had had enough.

Thanks again for sharing.

Great Trip Report! Glad you had a good time! I enjoyed hearing about your thrill ride escapades (POTC & Carpet Ride) Bwhahahahahahahaah! The tour sounds great, I'll have to suggest it to my friends next time we go down! I had fun reading your entire report! Thanks for writing it!!!

Good for you for going by yourself - how fun! I'm secretly trying to plan a solo trip for me next April... shhhh! don't tell :rotfl:

I'm doing my first solo trip (to Disney) in September and then solo again in May. I absolutely can't wait! I've been to Vegas several times solo and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ok, I just finished reading your report and it was actually one of my favs...:cool1: (even compared to Zzub's...shhh, don't tell)

I loved seeing a different perspective on Disney....After reading your report, though, it makes me want to try Disney by myself!
