I have never requested but....

Maybe I should request because it will be our first time at POR. We are a family of 5 and it must be non-smoking and we would like it close to pool, food, etc.

Is it too late to request? How do I request? By phone or Fax? What should I request? Do I have to give a reason why I want the request?

Any help would be great! Thanks

You can always make a request -- they are not guaranteed, but the CM's will try. Call WDW reservations and tell them you want to add a few requests to you ressie. I wouldn't do the fax thing since I have read here that some resorts are not allowing them anymore. Better to have them noted on your reservation and then ask about them at check-in. Good luck!

What is a good building at POR that is non-smoking and close to things. What building, floor, etc. should I request?

When I stayed at POR in November I didn't have my requests noted on the reservation so I faxed them in 4 days prior to my arrival. We arrived about 5 hours late (@10PM) due to flight problems. When we finally checked in the CM gave us our room number and said "It says here we have met all of your requests."

Fast forward to April. I made a room only reservation at AKL and asked that a request for a non-smoking bunk bed room be added to my reservation. Because I'd heard hear that resorts weren't liking faxes anymore, I didn't fax. BIG MISTAKE!! When we checked in the CM said that because we only had one child they hadn't saved a bunk bed room for us. I explained that the bunk beds were the only thing my four year old had talked about for the last month. The CM said she wished we had let them know about how important it was to the child and that they probably would have blocked a room for us then. We were able to room change the next day.

Moral of my story - If somethings important to me I will fax from now on. What's the worst, they don't read my fax and disregard it. How is that different than making a request on the reservation. BTW - The CM did say they were out of bunk bed rooms because we checked in so late (11PM) and that they had them earlier in the evening - so it wasn't that everyone else had requested them too. It was that they didn't take our request seriously.
