I have lost most of my hair and need some advice-

 Hugs to you. I think the important thing to see from this thread is you are not alone! I have never experienced this myself, but I am amazed at the number of people who have. I think it is more common than we would ever guess---which would lead me to say that it isn't as noticeable as you probably feel it is. If I were in your shoes I would get a good wig. They are so realistic that no one would know unless you told them. Good luck and hang in there!

I was on medication a couple of years ago that caused me to lose a lot of my hair (and since my hair is also thin and baby fine, it really looked bad!). I started using shampoo specifically meant for thinning hair, and it helped somewhat. Fortunately I am no longer on these meds, and while my hair is still thin, its no longer falling out.

I've often thought if I lost my hair for whatever reason I would get some really fabulous wigs of hair that I could never have in real life. Like a long curly red wig. :) Or a short black bob. Something completely different than what I'm used to. Make a bold statement of some sort.

I'm sending you loads of  and good wishes. Keep us posted.

OT for a moment, just wanted to thank Pea-n-Me for some wonderful moments and sharing. Thanks.

And Tres, some great ideas here.

One of my co-workers has to keep her hair covered for religious reasons. When she's not wearing a wig, she wraps her head in a beautiful, long, silk scarf. She looks so elegant and sophisticated when she wears it! My hair is pretty fine and limp and I'm thinking of trying that look for bad hair days.

I agree with the shaving the head and makeup. My family says I am a trouble maker, tho'. :teeth:

I got a really, really bad haircut last Fall. She almost cut all my hair off! I felt that people were looking at me everywhere I went. It made me wonder how people that have a health problem feel about hair loss. I think people are more sensitive when there is a health problem involved.

A couple of months after my 'bad' haircut, there was a cancer promotion and men & women were shaving their heads and donating their hair. Since I had become more aware of hair, it seemed that no body was staring at hair after that ~ at least that is what it seemed to me.

I am sorry you have been going through what you are and I certainly hope you are feeling much better. What this condition has done to your hair is unfortunate, of course. But, whatever you decide to do now, you will "take ownership", 'ya know. Whatever you decide to do, lift your head high, do it, and don't give it another thought.

On the lighter side, consider it an early 'lesson' on what it is like to grow older. Things sag, wrinkles appear by the handful, hair falls out and what is left turns grey, body areas that used to be small get big, body parts that used to be big....well, you get the idea. Vaniety goes right out the window......

The important thing is that you get stronger and feel much, much better. Your health is the top of the list of priorities in life. Everything else is constantly shifting and changing.

(my life would be so much easier if I could spell AND type)

I wanted to add one more thing.

After a while my Mother realized how unimportant 'hair' or 'outer' looks was. What is in someone's heart matters most. It also made the grandchildren realize that even though she looked different she was still just Grandmama.

My Mom finally got to the point that it was 'just hair'. She did not have a fatal condition and she could still live a complete and full life without hair. About 2 years after she first lost her hair she and my Dad divorced. She has since remarried-- another sign that people do see the person inside and not just on the outside.

But if you want to investigate wigs, I would surf www.paulayoung.com
They have lovely wigs and hairpieces that aren't expensive, so you could try that route without a lot of expense. If you choose to continue with a wig/hairpiece, you could invest in something more expensive.
I wear one of their hairpieces for showing horses. My hair is very short, and I wear a clip on bun that looks just like my hair! It comes in 26 different colors.
Again, do what you feel comfortable with.
