I have how many food pix? Time for a dining review!! Completed!

This is a family tradition...before we were enlightened and started eating on property and staying on property, DH would always get a sandwich here. But we like to say that you could plunk DH down in the middle of any place and he'll find a BBQ joint within 15 minutes. It's just his passion and weakness. So this is almost always a first lunch.

Our first trip to FTBBQ on this trip was food overload. DS insisted he wasn't hungry so we ordered a frozen lemonade for him. I asked DH to get me the turkey sandwich, a drink, and key lime pie:

ftbbqsandwich.jpg

Tons of turkey breast, lettuce and tomato on a whole grain roll with honey mustard dressing. Served with coleslaw. It was a very filling sandwich and very good, albeit basic.

DH ordered the ribs and baked beans:

ftbbqribs.jpg

He thought these were great, but not as good as the BBQ sandwich. DS, of course, thieved the corn muffin right away. And do you see what he also added to the order up there in the corner of the photo? Onion rings - absolutely awesome onion rings!

Both the sandwich and the ribs came with key lime pie:

FTBBQkeylimepie.jpg

YUM!!!!!! Very tart, creamy and the whipped cream was perfect. I loved this dessert! And so much better than the packaged desserts.

Now...remember DS wasn't hungry? At the last minute I decided he should have more than frozen lemonade (although I promise the child ate yogurt and fruit every morning before we left the room!) so I asked DH to get the fruit plate:

ftbbqfruit.jpg

We all shared it - the fruit was fresh, the yogurt was creamy and it was HUGE. The only disappointment was the orange - it wasn't very good and I expected more from Florida.

And...it came with dessert and a drink on the DDP....

So to summarize:
Frozen Lemonades - two
key lime pies - two
ribs, baked beans
turkey sandwich and coleslaw
onion rings
fruit plate with yogurt
large coke
medium diet lemonade
chocolate milk

For Lunch. For Three People, one of whom is 6. I am almost embarrassed to post this...:rotfl:

On our second trip, I ordered one of my standbys - the BBQ Chicken Salad:

ftbbqsalad.jpg

This is grilled chicken, greens, tomatoes, and a balsamic vinaigrette. Very good if there is enough dressing on it.

DH ordered the beef BBQ sandwich and I forgot to take a photo. We also got more onion rings to share.

DS ordered the hot dog and loved it:

ftbbqhotdog.jpg

He picked grapes and a cookie as his sides.

This is a great restaurant for CS. And if you don't have the DDP, this CS restaurant takes the DDE :thumbsup2

I'm a big bbq fan too. How does the bbq sandwich at Cosmic Ray's compare to Flame Tree BBQ?

Lovin' your reviews and I'm getting reeeaaalllly hungry right now looking at your great pix.

How in the world did I miss your reviews the past three days???

Thanks for sharing-can't wait for more! :)

Great Reviews! I LOVE pictures of WDW sausage...I swear it's the best link sausage on Earth. I can't wait for more.

Everything looks so yummy!!! Thank you especially for all the dessert pics!!

Your photos are awesome!! Thanks for sharing. :)

Flame Tree is my absolute favorite too! I always get either the Pork or Beef sandwich. I'm a BBQ addict.

Looking forward to more reviews!

Thank you all for the great comments! I love dining reviews and photos and really enjoy sharing with others!

I asked DH and he said "two different categories: BBQ and Wannabe BBQ" The FTBBQ has his vote, but the Cosmic Ray's is good for what it is.

We love Ghirardelli - DH insists that no one makes a better hot fudge sundae anywhere in the world. Every trip has to involve at least one trip here to enjoy a sundae or an ice cream cone.

(Shhhh...I think Beaches and Cream is better though!!!)

First - the Christmas trip:

ghirardellipeppermint.jpg

ghirardellipeppermintII.jpg

This was my HUGE sundae - I can't remember what it was called, but it was a special for Christmas. Peppermint ice cream, hot fudge, crushed candy cane pieces, whipped cream, more crushed candy cane, and a Ghirardelli candy cane chocolate square (one side milk chocolate, the other side crushed candy cane and white chocolate). And, of course, a cherry.

I loved this - but if I have any complaints it would be too much hot fudge (did I actually say that!?!?!? :scared1: ) and I don't really like candy in my ice cream. I am the kind of person who orders the famous No Way Jose at B&C with no chocolate or pb chips. I remember sharing this with DS who loves candy in his ice cream and we still didn't make too much of a dent in it.

Next up - DH's classic Hot Fudge. He dreams about this at home. This and Oreo Bon Bons...

Allears description: World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae - Indulge yourself with the Ghirardelli classic. Two scoops of premium vanilla ice cream overflowing with our fresh home-made hot fudge sauce, with whipped cream, chopped almonds and a cherry. $6.95

I love to eat all the whipped cream and nuts off the top, but the hot fudge is too sweet. Dh could eat the fudge from a jar with a spoon. But now that I think of it, I'm a lower class hot fudge girl. World Famous Ghirardelli? Eh. Dairy Queen Peanut Buster Parfait?

On our January trip, DS and I flew down the night before DH did and the night he was due to arrive, we took the boat from SSR over to DTD. It was time for an outside treat with my boy. DS ordered his all time favorite:

ghirardellivanilla.jpg

Yup...! A scoop of vanilla. Classic and perfect. He LOVED it!

I went with something a little less classic and simple:

Allears description:

Very Berry Sundae - A scoop of premium strawberry cheesecake ice cream smothered with sliced strawberry topping under a layer of blueberry cheesecake ice cream, blueberry topping, whipped cream, our chocolate berry blues and a hand made chocolate dipped waffle roll $6.95

YUM!!! I had learned my lesson about the hot fudge and went with something....lighter? :rotfl: I honestly didn't read this closely and I thought it was a scoop of strawberry ice cream, a scoop of blueberry ice cream and fresh berries. Somehow I completely missed: CHEESECAKE.

Fruit does NOT equal light in this case, my friends! Huge chunks of vanilla cheesecake in the ice cream, lots of fruit topping and whipped cream. I did not get anything close to what I thought I ordered, but Oh. My. God. SOOOOO good! DS ate half my whipped cream and this night started a love affair between Max and whipped cream/topping. Seriously - before this he never wanted to touch the stuff. Now he sneaks into the freezer and makes off with a whole carton of Cool Whip. :confused3

The "chocolate berry blues" were freaky - DS and I couldn't see that well because it was dark out and we both thought they were blueberries...:rotfl: big surprise to bite into something you think is fruit and discover to be fruit flavored chocolate!!

We sat outside in DTD and sent DH text messages, knowing he was on a plane to come meet us. Beautiful evening!

And lest you think it was mean for us to enjoy his favorite without him...reat assured:

That's what I thought. I once ordered a bbq sandwich from a local farmers market and I swear it tasted like sloppy joe's. Awful:scared1:

We love Ghirardelli's too. And we were there in Nov and had those chocolate squares with the candy canes crushed in them. I had to buy a huge bag to bring home and some of it did make it home.

Oh by the way, there is no such thing as too much hot fudge.:thumbsup2 But that fruit cheesecake sundae looks awesome.

we will HAVE to stop for some ice cream now. Last Sept I kept trying to get my family to go but they were getting so much dessert on DDP we just couldn't stuff anymore. And let me tell you I love :lovestruc some dessert and even I had enough cake and brownies by the end of our trip.

wOW.. I am loving your reviews and pictures.

I love the pictures of Ghiradelli's. I've only been there once, but YUMMY -- it sure looks good.

Thanks for posting and taking the pictures!

Ms. H

oh, what an excellent afternoon break: those photos are wonderful!!! :goodvibes

We love the BW Bakery - they have the most lovely pastries and it is a great place to stop in the evening after dinner when you're wandering the Boardwalk.

One of our favorites has always been the Banana Split Cake:

bwbakerybananaspiltdessert.jpg

I usually really love this, but this time I realized that what I enjoy the most is the whipped cream top. The cake/cheesecake part is good, but there is nothing like fresh sweetened whipped cream.

We also got a chocolate pretzel - we had seen this recipe in one of our DVC magazines and thought the incredibly labor intensive recipe was right up there on the "yeah...right!!!" list of things I'll make. That said, we wanted to try one when the effort was "a chocolate pretzel please" and handing over the room charge:

bwbakerychocolatepretzel.jpg

These are very good - the pretzel itself tastes like puff pastry and dark chocolate and although you can't see it here, the bottom is lined in chocolate. The top is covered in sugar - it looks like salt, but isn't. It was a wonderful treat that we shared on the plane home the next day :(

I had the Banana Split Cake and Chef Yoly Lazo gave me the recipe for it. I'd love to try making the chocolate pretzel in case you still have the recipe from the DVC Magazine and don't mind posting or scanning and sending it. We have a Disney Recipe Exchange 'cause it's always fun to try the Disney foods at home.

You had me at peppermint ice cream! I can't decide if I'm glad it's seasonal or not! :lmao:

Excellent.............thanks for posting.
