I called the Muddy Rivers poolside bar today to try to get the latest information on the rehab of this pool. We are arriving in April, so I wanted to know if it would be done by then. I spoke to the bartender who said he just spoke to the lifeguards this morning. They told him this rehab will be taking 8-12 weeks, starting in January. It wasn't news to me about January, but it sure was that it would take that long! So that is the current time line, for those of you going in Jan., Feb. and March.

Jillpie,

Did they say if the pool bar will still be open? Going in March, just DH and myself, was hoping it would be done by then. Doesn't look like the quiet pool will be all that quiet!!

He mentioned that he would not be working while the rehab was ongoing. He was bummed out about it because thats a big loss of money (tips) for him.

Read your comment and saw how many times you've stayed at POR. We will be staying there our first time 12-5-02, is it a nice to stay? Any info that will help us out would be greatly appreciate it. :)

I wonder what all they are going to do that it would take them that long.

Hmmm, no pool bar. Might have to reconsider where we are going to stay.

Kris, they are replacing the bridge over the pool with a new one, making the slide longer, putting in those spurty fountains (like downtown disney) and removing the island in front of the bar that is in the pool.
Poohtoyou, there is so much that I love about this place. The grounds are just beautiful, you could just take a whole day to relax and walk around the resort. It is along a river, where a boat takes you to downtown disney, this is such a great ride! Be sure you take an evening to do this. POR has a great food court, lots of variety. We usually come back from the parks and have our dinner there (have our biggest meal at the parks at lunchtime, a bit cheaper that way). You are going right before the rehab, so do visit this pool, its lots of fun! The slide is a blast, I go on it over and over again. You will love this resort.
Kmermaid, when are you going? Have you stayed at POR before? You could always grab a drink at the lounge next to the gift shop too and take it to the quiet pools.

Jillpie,

We are to arrive 3/19-3/23. We have a waterview room so I'm wondering if its facing the pool if it will be alot of noise from the construction. I really don't want to move. I like the boat to DD (we stayed at POFQ before). And I'm wondering if alot of people who are schedule there will move too making the other places more crowded and AB less crowded, or they might come over to the quiet pool near us. Oh dear I'm going over the top now!! I'm going to wait and see what people are saying in Jan & Feb.

Yes, I agree with you waiting to see what happens. Even though the person I spoke to told me this information, he believes it'll take a shorter time than that.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad the pool will good when we go. My DD will get a kick out of the slide in pool, I'm sure.

Poohtoyou. Just wanted to confirm what Jillpie said DL now known as POR (can't bear to call it POR either, it will always be DL to our family) is our favoite too. We have been going there since 1992 and had been there every year until 2001 sometimes up to three times a year. We would always spend our longest vactions there usually 9 days or more and then go up for 4 days at a time. It is such a beautiful resort. The boat ride to downtown disney is very enjoyable. There are two different areas to POR one side is Magnolia Bend the other is Alligator Bayou. Our family perfers Alligator Bayou. Old Man Island, where the pool is is awesome. Don't forget about the hot tub! Noone said whether or not that was still going to be open.

We just recently stayed at Wilderness lodge on our last trip and have to say it is also Beautiful, but Dixie Landings will always hold a special place in my heart.

In Dec. We will be spending a week in WL and a Week in AKL. It is now our goal to try them all.

Have a great time.

The themed pool at POR is on an island, which is covered with trees - no rooms look directly onto the pool, that's for sure. Hopefully, construction noise will be muffled by the trees as well. When we were there in October, we never heard the noise from the pool area (we were in Magnolia Terrace) but we did get a lot of noise from the condensor units outside our room.

has constructin already begun on the POR pool? i was just wondering. We will be arriving there Jan 1st. will it have already started?? thanks'

Thanks for the updated info. We're going the first week of May and it looks like we'll be able to swim in the new, improved pool!
This is a big deal for us because we both LOVE to swim.

I'm at POR now. I asked at the Muddy Rivers Pool Bar tonight, and they say they have been given no firm date for the rehab. The bartender did say that their boss is looking to keep the bar open during rehab. As usual, the guests know more than the CM's who are most likely to be affected by something going on where "they" work. Last year at this time when they were getting ready to all but shut down POR, the CM's were getting better info from us than from their bosses. That's gotta suck. The horse and buggy ride does exist if there is any question left on that one. Man, it's cold here, totally offset by getting to watch the space shuttle take off!!

Construction starts in January.. probably as soon as the holiday crowds leave.

As for pool bars, you can take the boat ride from PO-R to PO-FQ and use the pool and pool bar there... it is really nice, too!
