I have a question re: links- what's NOT allowed?

I re-read the guidelines, FAQs, etc. I get that links to other Disney forums are not allowed. No problem. I don't want to violate any rules, but other than no commercial sites I am involved with being mentioned, I can't find any specifics on what CAN'T be posted link-wise.

The only reason I even bring this up is because I tried to shorten a link using tiny URL, and the link was starred out. because it had tiny___ in it. (Does that website do something I should beware of?) What other links, generally speaking, can't be posted? (I know nothing where I will gain commercially- I have nothing to do with tiny___, so I'm just wondering. As I said, I don't want to violate.)

Thanks!

Hi, I can't answer since I wouldn't know how to put a link up to save my life:rotfl2:. Kayla is a co-mod and I'm sure she'll answer your post soon. Lovetoscrap also is a new co-mod. So don't worry one of them will pop in soon:goodvibes.

Thanks- I just thought the link-shortening one was a weird one to star out, so now I wonder if that site is doing something nefarious I don't know about. It is just a little hard not to post links in violation since I am not 100% sure what I can't post, KWIM? :thumbsup2

You rang? :goodvibes

Tiny URL is not allowed because it has been used as a way to post links to places that are not welcome here.

In general the best rule of thumb is to just type out the link and then hit print preview. If it is not welcome here it will be automatically blocked by the filter with ******************. The reason some sites are blocked is generally because we have had problems in the past with them aggressively advertising their site. If you try to get around this by saying something like "Google site name" or "go to site name dot com" you will get an infraction for a filter violation.

But as long as a site is family friendly, is not selling something, and conforms to the guidelines it is okay to post in a thread. We do ask that before you provide a link or information from another Disney site you check and see if we have it here at wdwinfo.com . Chances are we do! If you want to put a link to an outside site in your signature then there are a few more rules you have to follow.

The other good thing is that if you make an honest mistake and link to somewhere that is not okay you will probably have it deleted and you may receive a warning or even an infraction. That can seem like a bummer, but really it is just our way of knowing who is constantly getting around the rules and trying to cause problems, and who just made a mistake. Learn from it and know that the infraction will expire with no harm done.

You can also feel free to PM me with a site if you are in doubt about it. And I may even have to check it with the webmasters if I am not sure.

I hope this answers your questions. If not, let me know. :)

Aha- makes perfect sense. Of course tiny url could be used to link to something less than appropriate. I totally see that now that you have kindly pointed it out, lol.

I have been previewing my posts, that is how I discovered that I can't post, say, mouse____.com in response to someone asking about music and such.

Thanks so much for the quick and informative response!
