And they should be mercilessly prosecuted (& persecuted) to the max!!

I've just today cooled off enough to write about this..............

2 nights ago I got paged out as the second unit in on an MVC in downtown St Auggie. An accident that had one trauma alert (Translate: potentially life threatening injuries) + other injured people.

We arrived to find anothe rescue working on the critically injured moron and an engine crew removing the drunk driver moron from the car onto a backboard.

One of the medics from the 1st unit comes over to fill us in on the situation, tells us about the driver, the woman next to the driver, & oh yeah, the EIGHT YEAR OLD GIRL IN THE BACK SEAT!!!!!

Long story short - the driver, who admitted to us to drinking 8 beers, 4 martinis & 2 shooters had bounced off of 2 other cars and hit a telephone pole at about 60 mph.

In a 30 mph zone.

He was not wearing a seat belt, & as is all too common the case, was not injured seriously.

The woman in the fron next to him (who happened to be the childs MOTHER!!! almost went through the windshield of the car.

By God's good graces, the child was not injured.

I had the displeasure of transporting moron #1 (the driver) along with the child to the hospital. Along the way he said "I just wanted to show her a good time". I quizzed him about whether he was thinking about the girl before he got into a car ****faced drunk. Ya' wanna know what he said? "Her mother was supposed to be looking after her".

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Of course when he got to the hospital, he refused to let the law enforcement draw blood for BAC checks, stating "I only had 2 beers".

Fortunately the PD got an affadavit from my partner verifying what he said he had to drink, & an hour later he was being taken away in handcuffs.

But he will probably walk..................

***** sigh *****

I

HATE

DRUNKS.

(sorry for the vent...)

Have a great day everyone!

I agree with you on drunk driving
I lost a good friend in an accident where the other dirver (who walked away ) was drunk
and a friend of my families is now a quadriplgic(SP) because a drunk driver ran him off the road

also when i was in the Fire dept i pulled up on way to many accidents caused by idiot drunk drivers

a question was the mother drunk too???

Why do these people not stop and think? Thank God the little girl was okay. Her mother needs a good swift kick in the butt for letting her daughter get into a car with him too! Wonder what other dangerous situations she lets her daughter get into... Ugh.

People like that need to be taken out back and shot.

Seriously, IMO, you get THAT drunk and drive witha child in your car, you give up your status as a human in my world.

along with her daughter & son in law by a drunk driver. The son/grandson is now living with his aunt & uncle.

I came along the accident scene on the way to my Mom's house. I always pray for people in accidents.

Little did I know that my friend was the one under the sheet on the road.

The drunk driver walked away in handcuffs!

I have a drink now and then. However, when with my son, I do not drink. Even at WDW! You never know when you child needs (all of) you.

I hope Child Protective Services or what it's called in Florida is aware of the situation. Perhaps the little girl would be safer living with someone other than her "mother".

I know what you mean....I really hate it when people drink and drive. My friends husband just lost my respect for drinking and driving.....get this. He quit his job because the working conditions were unsafe......then he was arrested for driving 106 mph under the influence. :earseek: This makes no sense to me. He is lucky he didn't kill someone or himself. Unfortunately, after a week in jail because they couldn't afford bail he walked with time served and probation. There needs to be harsher punishments!!! Drunks do not deserve slaps on the wrists!!!

People who drink and drive ... don't even get me started. It makes my blood boil!!!!

These parents should have that child taken away for their behavior. They put her life at risk by both being too drunk to drive. Had the mother stayed sober, none of this would have happened. They could have even called a taxi or friend to come get them. They did not make the proper judgements and risked the life of that little girl. I wonder how many other poor judgements they make on a daily basis?!

I commend you for your restraint in not hauling off and smacking the daylights out of these "parents."

Unbelievable. :sad2:

And judges don't help:

This article from Cleveland:

CLEVELAND -- A woman sentenced to spend 20 years in prison for killing a newlywed couple with her car will get a new sentence.

Attorney Apologizes For Motorist
An appeals court ruled that the sentence imposed on Robbie Moore, 29, last September was unfair and too harsh.

Prosecutors said in May 2004, Moore drove drunk into oncoming traffic on Interstate 90 for 10 miles before colliding with a motorcycle on which Jeffrey Bliss and Ann Marie Roaloffs, of Parma , were riding. They were both thrown from the motorcycle in the crash and died.

Judge Kathleen Ann Sutula handed down the maximum sentence.

Toxicology tests showed Moore's blood-alcohol level was 2.5 times the legal limit. And she was driving under a suspended license.

In addition to her 20-year prison term, Moore's driver's license was suspended for life.
Moore's attorney argued that other cases of aggravated vehicular assault had brought more lenient punishments.

A judge has ordered that she be resentenced.

I know someone who was recently caught for drinking and driving and he keeps whining because he will loose his DL for a year. Does he expect me to feel sorry for him? That is NOT going to happen. He knew better than to get in the car like that.

For me, it has gotten to the point where if I'm driving I won't drink at all, not even one drink. It's just not worth the consequences if something were to happen. Fortunately, DW loves to drive and seldom drinks :teeth:

My second husband was killed by a drunk driver 3 weeks after our wedding. my husband was sitting in the left turn lane when HE hit him head on. I received a call at work telling me there had been an accident. I rushed to the hospital only to find that my husband had died 5 minutes before I got there.

I am one of the "lucky" ones. HE is now in jail serving time. I send him a picture of my husband every birthday, wedding anniversary and christmas. I hope it haunts him.

I am in no way defending drunk driving. But because someone has done so does not make them less human. Probably actually make them more so. There are probably very few people in this country who drink who have never drove after drinking. These people are still people.

It is a terrible thing that there was a child in the car. It was a blessing, however, that she was not hurt. It was also a blessing that no one died, including the driver.

When I was a kid, I have been in the car my drunk alcoholic father was driving. Did it make my mom a bad mom because she allowed me to be there, or did it make her human because she knew both her and me would most likely be beat if she stood up to him? My mother was not the best in the world, but that is one situation I would never blame her for.

I, back in my wilder days, have also had a DUI, for an accident caused by someone completely sober while my car was at a standstill waiting for the light to change. Was I wrong for driving? Yes. Am I the only one on the DIS who has done so, I guarantee you not. Am I some kind of evil person? I don't think so, but I guess some people here do.

I do drink, and yes, I occassionally drive after 1 or 2 drinks. However I will not if I have had more than that, and with 1 or 2 drinks over a couple of hours I am not drunk, realistically or legally. I also still drink now that I have a child, but I do not get drunk, I know I need to be there for my child.

To the OP, I think you would be well within your rights to call child protective services and give them a head's up on this. I know I have heard some horror stories about Florida's system, though. Perhaps this girl has another relative who is more responsible.
There was an accident in this area in the summer where a man driving drunk killed 2 women (mother and daughter) and injured another daughter in the car, plus hit two other cars and injured people. It turns out his blood alcohol was .46! :earseek: I would think that would kill you; the guy must have been drinking for years to get up to that kind of capacity. He was indicted but didn't show up for his arraignment last week and is under a bench warrant. I just hope they rearrest him before he kills someone else.

I am so sorry for what you have gone through, but I LOVE that you torture the idiot in jail with his awful act!

I hate DUIs. I had to bite my tonque at an inlaw gathering where they were telling one relative he was a good cop cause if he pulled over a DUI and the guy was close to home, he would let him go. A good cop cause he doesnt ruin someone's night with a mere ticket! I had to bite my tongue because I almost lost a close relative due to a JERK who was so intoxicated that he said he didnt even know what he hit!

Not drinking and driving is not about you not getting a ticket, its about you not taking the life of someone else's loved one! Dont get me started!
