anyone else out there a cottonwood tree hater? :rolleyes1
I just hate these little green/yellow buds that fall over the place and stick to my dogs paws and my shoes, and get tracked in the house and stain everything! grrr...I've been cleaning and cleaning and I cant get the stain off the floor by the back door...does anyone know of a cleaning product that will get rid of the stain on the floor? or...the bottom of my shoes?? :scared:

thanks!

That doesn't sound like cottonwood. We have cottonwoods around here and what they produce is bits of white fluff with the seed attached. It gets everywhere. But there are no green or yellow pods.

hmm...i assumed they were cottonwood...we get the cotton stuff too I guess thats a different tree...oh man...then what kind of tree is it arg!:headache:

never assume...

What type of floor is needing to be cleaned? is it a hardwood, or tile...?

How harsh of chemicals can we recommend?

Mikeeee

Just consider yourself lucky it is not a mulberry tree, or sothing similar like a crabapple or a real fruit tree.

Mikeeee

its a hardwood floor...suggest anything...harsh or not...its a well ventilated room.

Well you do not want anything that will remove the finish...
Are the floors real wood or the thin laminate style? What products ahve you tried?
can you post a pic?

Mikeeeee

they're the ikea hard wood floor...so its not "real" hard wood. If I put methanol on a Q-tip do you think that would work? we use that to take stickers off used games/dvds we buy...

what have you tried in the way of floor cleaners? Mild stuff or something more harsh like top job or lestoil?

whatever you try do it in a small "out of the way" spot to see if it will damage it first.

Mikeeee

I dont have much as far as harsh cleaners...pine sol being the main floor cleaner.

the methanol worked! :cool1:

Cool! But what the heck is methanol. I mean they put it in our gas, but....

is it like rubbing alcohol? I have used that on many things.

glad you got the stain out. Now how can you stop it from getting tracked in and is it really cottonwood pods? The DIS wants to know, well at least mikeeee does. Heheheheee

Mikeeee

Im not really sure what Methanol is...My DF brought some home from the bio lab he works at, he uses it to remove stickers off games/dvds...it looks/smells like a rubbing alcohol.
Ive been searching still to figure out what kind of trees they are...Ill post as soon as I find out...promise!

Our cottonwood drops the sticky buds when it doesn't develop the cotton, so you probably have a cottonwood. The sticky buds are a pain to get off shoes and feet. No bare feet outdoors when the tree is dropping them--and that kills me as I like to go barefoot!

Are the buds sticky like this?

These are cottonwood buds, the red pandas hate them when they fall. There's so much cotton from the trees at the zoo too it makes drifts. But, the trees are great habitats for local animals. :)

yes! they look like that! (cute picture by the way!)
when they get on your shoes/barefeet/dog paws/floor...it makes this light greenish yellowish sticky mess!
its just about over now...the trees are budding and the lawn guys mowed most of them up...stick what a pain in the neck!:headache:

Yeah, they're gross! I always feel bad for the animals when they're all over their fur.

I have the same problem. I never knew what kind of tree it was. DS gets them all over his feet, gets in the shower and it stains the tub. I lost a pair of slippers to them earlier in the season.

I hate them too. We get the yellow pods, but not the cotton. Our's also drops little sticks off year round. Very annoying.
