I love it when a plan comes together. I was able to get a grand villa the week after Thanksgiving, Sunday to Sunday at Boardwalk. Member services was awesome in advising me as to how to make the initial reservation and then do a one step walk to get the exact dates I wanted. I even had the number of points needed for the full week. Now the countdown starts.

Was the walk necessary, though?

I don't know if it was or not. I had been told here on the boards that it was a popular week. I've never tried for a grand villa before. We've been members at BW since 2003, and I've never had trouble getting reservations we wanted except for short, quick, last minute trips. I've never done any kind of 'walking a reservation' before, so this was new to me. He suggested that getting the first day of the reservation was key to securing the whole week. That's why I did it the way I did, plus, I needed to have enough points to make it happen. I'm not a point use expert.

Judging by current availability, the walk wasn't necessary. At the time, it might have been necessary, but only because other people were walking. So, walking is creating the need for walking, but really shouldn't be necessary.

Based on this thread, walking should only be necessary for studios; BLT and BWV standard, BWV boardwalk view, both views at VGF, and AKV value, and only in the last quarter of the year.

Since this was our first time trying for a Grand Villa and what we have termed a once in a 'once in a lifetime trip' because of the Grand Villa, I was doing my due diligence in securing the reservation. I was fully prepared not to walk the reservation, but since MS suggested it, I figured I would do it. I haven't looked at current availability, so I'll trust that you know what is available. I don't study the trends of DVC use. I simply try to plan our vacations for what we want and when we want it, and then I do my best to meet those requirements.

Nothing personal; just frustrated because walking is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. You had to walk because people are walking. If people weren't walking, there's be no reason to walk; at least for this reservation.

There are so few BWV Grand Villas (7, I think) I would definitely walk a reservation to get one, esp since OP wanted Thanksgiving week.
That week is so popular because it's "cheap." I don't think "cheap" is going to affect Grand Villas anywhere near as much as studios. And BWV is dead center on price; there would be four Grand Villas that are more expensive and four that are less.

Why would you be frustrated by my reservation? You said I wouldn't have had to walk the reservation based on some inside information that I don't have. I didn't choose this week because it was "cheap." I chose this week because the grandkids aren't old enough to have to be taken out of school, the crowds aren't what they are at other times of the year, I have enough points for it, I just retired and can go this week, and the family can enjoy the Christmas decorations.
I wanted to share a little bit of excitement concerning my reservation. I didn't intend for this thread to become a debate on walking. There's another thread for that. I did what is within the booking guidelines as established by DVC Member Services and recommended to me by someone from Member Services.

Congrats on your Book......Have a Great trip:thumbsup2

The way I see it, walking a reservation eliminates the competition from rental companies in getting what you want. If MS doesn't complain I don't see a problem.

You did the right thing. I think the walk was necessary. Right now the GV's are booked full into December. Do't let the negativity get you down.

Have a great trip!
