they told me we can't do the transfer between the two systems because we have Direct TV. Is this true?

We just transferred information from one to the other. Not as much of a pain as my kids saying we want to watch "The Three Stooges" and I tell them they have to go in my room because it's not up front anymore. Mind you, I am not complaining! I love having 2 and the system was free with a mail in rebate!

Any one know more info?

Thanks!

what do you mean 'transfer'? meaning - if you record a movie from the living room tv, you want to watch it on the bedroom tv?

they are 2 separate units...2 separate hard drives...I dont' think you can transfer that way.

could be wrong though...we have DirecTV and 2 tivos...I have different shows on each tivo box.

We can't but 1 tivo is a first generation and another is a directv box with dvr. If you had 2 TIVO2 boxes, I believe you could transfer between (not 100% sure, my mom is just now getting her ssecond TIVO2 installed at her house). But with the reciever/dvr's you can't and with an older generation Tivo (even if the second is the newer one) you can't... without some hacking skills anyways.

HMO does require two networked TiVo Series 2 units. It does work great: two separate boxes, two separate tuners, two separate To Do lists, two separate hard drives, but you can watch anything recorded on either unit. I don't know if there is anything specific about DirectTV that would interfere with HMO working as it does for everyone else.

DirecTV units do not support HMO, unfortunately. We've had DTV-Tivo since it was first available and still use our Sony first-generation dual-tuner unit in our office. When we moved this summer, we added an HD DTV-Tivo to the living room and a stand-alone Tivo Series 2 in the bedroom (hook up through a basic Huges DTV satellite tuner). Prior to having the stand-alone we never thought we'd use the HMO features, but now that we have it, it KILLS us that we can't transfer programs to the other two boxes, since they are DTV. We can, however, connect the stand-alone to our computer and transfer using Tivo To Go (to take programs on the road or burn to DVD).

Now that HMO has been available since last May, DTV is running out of excuses not to support it. The official line is they are working on it, but they really just don't have the support staff to try and troubleshoot home networking issues. Rather than beef that up, they're just stalling until they replace the Tivo architecture with their own DVR technology in the next generation units.

Now I'm an early adopter and we've had satellite since year two and Tivo since year one, but the next time I need to replace a receiver or DVR unit, it'll be with a stand-alone receiver and stand-alone Tivo. I'm sick of not having access to the great technology Tivo offers because of DTV's b.s. excuses. In fact, the second Tivo comes out with an HD capable unit, I'll probably sell off what I have and jump ship early.

Okay, I got my answer then. Bummer!

Still gotta love it though!

Thanks Everyone!
