I just got a Geroge Forman Grill... they were on sale at Target in the clearance section... anyway... I got home from work late yesterday and the kids were starving... so I pulled out the grill and some frozen hamburger patties... the book said to cook for 7 - 8 minutes, I did 5 minutes, figured i could always put them back for another minute....and they were hockey pucks....

DH, who eats anything, revolted and we had pasta...he was very crabby about it... anyway..

HELP!!!! what did I do wrong!!!

Is there a secret trick?

Does it only work for chicken? I bought it because DS10 won't eat anything but hamburgers, mac and cheese and pasta and red sauce, so i had thought it would solve the dinner issue, since I have to make him something different from the rest of us ( I do eat more things than that). Also thought that since he is 10 that he could make his own burger while i was doing the family dinner..

Any help will be greatly appreciated by me and the family.

Thanks

Hey I'm not sure!! there is no secret to using them (just cleaning them..) I'd try cooking a frozen patty again (when the pressure of hungry humans isn't present)

Maybe you have the ONE minute zapper prototype that mistakenly left the factory

If you still don't get it to work - call the 800 number & ask them for suggestions & replacement - don't tell them it was on sale, because that doesn't even factor into the problem (mayabe it was faulty & someone else has returned it & you purchased a used/defective one - but I doubt that!)

p.s. to clean mine, I let it cool a bit, place it partitally over the sink, so the juice/grease can drip into the sink not all over counter, & then I put a damp dishrag inside & close it. It loosens everything up & then I can wash it (while it's leaning over sink) & just leave it open to dry..

good luck (& yes kids do love to use them theirselves - make sure they keep the little drip tray under the end for the drippings)

I've never tried frozen patties but with fresh hamburgers I cook ours 7 or 8 minutes. We make them a little thick and like them WELL done.
I'd take it back. It sounds like the thermostat or something is wacky on yours.
I hope you try another one because I really like ours for fast dinners. Using marinades and rubs really makes for a good, quick dinner.

I've used mine a few time with frozen patties, they weren't thick, I did not time them, but kept checking them until they were browned and the juices ran clear. My kids loved them and they came out fine. I would try it agian when I was alone as Rebecca suggested, then if it still comes out the same I would go back to Target to get a new one.

Thanks, I will try again, on the weekend when things aren't as rushed... I never thought that maybe the temp is wrong..

Twigs - thanks I will do the burgers without the time and just check.

Rebecca - thanks for the cleaning tip.. i did wonder what to do, sounds like you have a great method for cleaning I will try that..

I will let you know after the next time how things went..Thanks again.

:happy1:
