I find the repeated use of the word "yummy" hilarious!

I laugh every time I read a post in this forum that contains the word "yummy"! I don't think I've used this phrase since DD was a toddler and I tried to convince her to eat what was on her plate by describing it as "yummy".

As an adult do you sit around the dinner table at home and say "Dinner was really yummy tonight!"

My 44 year old sister uses "yummy" on a daily basis; "lunch was yummy", "my soup was yummy", try this it's yummy" ARRRRRRGH some one make her stop!!!!!

Maybe I should get her a thesaurus fro her birthday!!!!

I think it's funny, too....along with the words: veggies, brekkie and ressies....come on -- is it really that hard to spell out the entire word to keep yourself from sounding like a 2 year old?

My mom and I had to have an intervention with my sister who used "yummy" allll the time. She then switched to "wacky". We are thinking about calling A&E to get her on the show.

I think I just typed "yummy" in an answer to a post yesterday. I'm pretty sure I use it, but then I agree with oybolshoi - I love silly words like that because they make me laugh. I mean, we're talking about WDW, where everyone's supposed to be a kid. Why not call their food yummy?

I find almost every Rachael Rayism to be annoying: yummo, delish, evoo, etc..

Come on people is it really that difficult to use real words or whole words in conversation?? Seems the world has an instant/text message vocabulary now. Where has the English language gone??

I don't think there is anything wrong with that. What's the big deal? Now, if an adult walks around talking and sounding like a baby all the time, then I might think differently, but who cares if an adult says yummy?

I don't say "yummy" much in everyday life, but I do use it on the boards because "yummy" = (IMO )

According to Merriam Webster the word "yummy" is an adjective that means something is highly attractive or pleasing. The etymology dates back to 1899: yum-yum as an expression of pleasure from babies.

Synonyms include delicious, delectable, savory, etc ...


In a casual forum dedicated to discussion about available food options at WDW, I see nothing wrong with someone using the word yummy as an adjective to describe his / her opinion of food.

Would I use it to describe the dinners I've had at Victoria and Albert's?

Nope.

But I certainly think that it's an appropriate word that captures my reaction when I first ate a No Way Jose at Beaches and Cream.

I suppose I could have said that the No Way Jose is a sublime marriage of chocolate, peanut butter, and vanilla - an unctuous taste treat the mere thought of which induces spontaneous toe curling.

I choose to be succinct: the No Way Jose is yummy.

I use yummy all the time, and have for years. Sometimes things are Wicked Yummy (I am from MA) or we stretch out the syllables (YUH. MEE.) It would never have even occured to me that anyone would consider it "baby talk".
Now that I know that to be the case, I still don't care and will continue to use it
