that when you post a fluff thread people will actually take the time to read it and then comment, "don't you have anything better to worry about?" or some such remark.

then when you post a thread asking for a prayer or a good thought many still take the time to read it, but don't take the time to say anything.

Perhaps, they just don't know what to say. To me, sometimes a hug says more than anything I ever could come up with.

I rarely post on the prayers and pixie dust needed threads.
It is not that I am unsympathetic -I just feel kind of awkward and don't know what to say.
I just think it in my head. I will try to post more on those.

I agree, I think it brings back the old "if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all."

Well, I read lots of threads, post on a few.
Sometimes I'll post on a fluff, most times not.

I'm generally ineligible to post on the prayers thread,
but I do send good thoughts if someone wants 'em.

I hope you feel better soon.

Oh, sometimes when I feel kinda down, I just go read another forum like Resorts or Theme Parks,
but stay off the Budget Board, it will just make ya sadder coz so many folks are havin' such a hard time. :sad1:

Thats exactly how I feel. I mean, if someone is asking for prayers because they just lost their husband.... what am I to say that could ever make them feel better - KWIM? Ofcourse, all they really want is something, anything small, and I should try to do that, but for me, I'm more scared of saying something that may upset them more.

As far as the fluff threads - I'm with ya!! I did a thread like that once, and got a few rude responces like get over it - if thats all I had to worry about I'd be happy, yada yada yada. Ofcourse my "fluff thread" wasn't the only thing in my world, but it was all I was sharing at that moment - I think people need to realize that.

I come to the Dis for fluff. I deal with sadness all day.

I agree with this as well. I've been told a lot if that's the only thing I have to worry about I'm lucky, but I don't post serious stuff, at least that much. For the most part I don't post about medical problems, relationship problems, or financial problems. And so much stuff changes, like I've had three different jobs since I started posting on the DIS, that obviously more goes on then I would ever post on a public place like the DIS.

Some people choose to have nothing better to do than spend their time making others feel bad...they should ask themselves if they have anything else to worry about than making others feel miserable.

on the first part I agree, one time I vented about my mom just a small annoyance and someone said at least I have a mom:confused:

on the prayer one sometimes it is hard to post seeing "said a prayer" for pages and pages without sounding boring but I did say a prayer:)

You're right.

yes, I've noticed over the years people are more quick to be rude than to give a fellow human being a few words of encouragement. That's why I've stayed away for so long, but I have to peek back in occasionally.

I love fluff!

:confused3 Either you want the "prayer or a good thought" or you want a post....why do we need to advertise if we sent up a prayer or good thought?

As for the little hug smiley....I'm not a touchy feely person so I rarely use that smiley as it isn't true to my nature.

I guess my point was that sometimes something bad or sad happens and we need a little support. If you aren't the type to pray or whatever, why not skip those threads without reading them?

I usually don't ask for that kind of thing, then I had a death in the family and I just needed a connection with some "old friends". It sort of hurts to see 150 read the thread and only 5 or 6 respond.

Yet when I posted some "fluff" plenty of people took the time to be nasty. I am not singling anyone out, just making a general observation of the board.

I've been around a lot longer than my post count shows and things just aren't the same anymore. I always said I only came to the internet for fluff, but that isn't always realistic.

I'm the type to pray, I'm just not the type to tell the world (or a message board) when I pray - just something that I've always considered kind of private.
Up until this point I never realized that it bothered people that I opened a thread to read, without posting to it. Sorry if I've offended anyone, that wasn't my intention.
