I finally get to vent!

We were at Disney 9/7-9/15, wound up having to go to South Florida for a week after trip ended, came home to computer problems, got them fixed yesterday and now I can vent about something that happened to us at MGM on 9/12.

We found a spot for the Stars and Motor Cars parade, it was the last spot next to a crosswalk area. We waited there for quite some time for the parade to start. People were constantly trying to take the spot next to us and being told to move by a CM. As the parade was coming down the street, a woman, man and their two older children claimed this spot as their own. Fine. The parade had started, no more crossing the street.

Well, instead of standing along the edge of the street like everyone else, they line up going across the street and thus blocking the view of the next few families (including us) down the street. My kids are 5 and 7 and couldn't see anything except this family's heineys! :furious: And when several people and a CM tried to tell them to move, they didn't speak english and just stared at them blankly. Or they would back up for a second and be right back there when the CM left.

It got so bad, the mother was actually putting her kids in the parade to take pictures of them! They were standing in the road facing the crowd along side of a car or character! :furious: At one point a costumed character actually tried to gently move these kids from the street and back in line. Of course they went right back as soon as he passed.

And the mom was stepping on a lady's (standing next to me, also getting furious) toe every time she backed up to take a picture of her kids in the parade! It was honestly like they were the only people there. They noticed noone else around them, not kids who were shorter, not other people trying to get pictures without her kids in them, noone. :sad2: My family could not see the cars or characters until they were directly in front of us, so we only got a side view of them. And everytime I tried to take a picture, her kids would run out into the road alongside the car. :sad2: I was so angry and I couldn't believe noone stopped them.

There I feel better!!

Glad you feel better. This kind of thing has happened to us as well. I know it can be frustrating because you take the extra time to wait for the parade, you get a great spot and then all of suddent right before the parade; BANG! Someone jumps right in your view/way in a place they are not supposed to be.

It's happened to us twice before Spectro.

I try not to be upset by these things but they really do upset me. You took the time to wait for the parade and get a good seat and some people think they own the world. I would not have stood for it.. my legs would have needed a huge stretch at that point and a whole lot of tripping woulda been going on. Whoops!

Without getting too critical, I wouldn't let other people's rude actions ruin your good time. Obviously, they didn't have a clue. The world in filled with all types, and I would use the opportunity to show your children how you can be graceful in the face of knuckleheadedness.

Oh yay, another vent thread! :stir:
Unfortunately, I can relate so I am going to commiserate with you here. :smokin:
Last week were watching the pirate tutorial out in front of POTC. For those who have seen it, you know that there are a set number of people that are picked to help out. Well, on this occasion, the children were all picked and ready to start when this guy with a video camera starts stepping all over people to get to the front so he could push his kid up to help out. :confused3 The kid kinda wanders up and then stops (probably wondering what to do, since the act has already started) as the father keeps videoing and waving his hand, motioning for him to keep going. At this point, 'Mac' the pirate tutorial guy says 'parents, do not push your kids up here' in his nice and funny but firm voice. Mac proceeded to let the kid take part (what can you do?) which may or may not have been the best idea because now the father is walking around the obviously crowded front perimeter with his video camera in hand, stepping on and in front of everyone trying to get footage of his son. He seemed to have no consideration for anyone else whatsoever. It made for a really miserable pirate tutorial experience for the rest of us.

Thanks for bringing up the vent thread! I'll stop there. I had 2 really bad parade experiences too but I think this is enough for now.

Sorry this family rained on your parade :rolleyes1
I can truly empathize.

We experienced much of the same bahavior when we were there last week. Whenever we encountered such selfishness either my hubby or I would look at the other and say "It's another one of the 'We're the only people at WDW today' groups".

We had one instance where a gentleman was holding up the boat to the Polynesian because he wanted to get pics of his family in the boat, his family with the captain, his mother with the captain, him with the captain, etc. etc. The older lady in front of me said under her breath...."Folks, it's not your personal transporation system."

We still had a fabulous time, but sometimes it just stuns me that some people have absolutely no regard for those around them. I'm probably the other side of the spectrum....I worry too much that I'm inconveniencing some else.

Thankfully our kids have decided that it's much more fun to ride rides during the parade than watch them so we don't have this issue anymore but I remember having it one time and it got U~G~L~Y~ so we try not to go to many or we watch from the place where they enter or exit depending on where we are in the park. It isn't worth the frustration to US. Our kids however are 13, 11 and 7 and we've done Disneyland so many times with them that they'd rather ride than watch the parades.

It didn't ruin my good time at all! :sunny: I never said anything to the lady, my kids just watched as much of the parade as they could see. I do wish I would have been able to get some pictures too. I haven't been mad about this whole time or anything, I just wanted to tell some people who can relate. :thumbsup2

I have been away from the internet and DIS boards for almost a month now, so I was not aware that venting about something that happened at Disney was frowned upon. I'm sorry.

Vent away OP! I don't blame you for wanting to vent about it and I sure didn't get the idea that your trip was ruined because of a parade! And if venting is against the rules then a lot of threads here are going to be deleted! ;)

Thanks hydster! I was wondering if venting became against the rules or something while I was gone. I don't come on here and complain every day, but I just had to get this story off my chest. And we honestly didn't really think of it after the parade was over, so I didn't let it ruin my day, but it did ruin the parade. But I bet my kids didn't even realize it was happening. :sunny:

And I'm with you about the parades usually. We only watch Spectro once each trip and miss the rest of the parades to ride rides. My kids really wanted to see Lightning McQueen and Mater. But this made me remember why we stopped watching them. :sad2:

I hear ya! We tell the kids to pick 1 parade each day and that's it. There isn't enough Wellbutrin in the world to get me through more than 1 with the idiot people who are to self absorbed to realize that everyone else wants to see and paid the same price of admission as they did!

Glad it didn't ruin your trip...though at Disney I think it's kinda hard to get your trip ruined unless you want it to happen!

Have a great weekend!

Next trip maybe I'll PRETEND not to speak English. We had alot of that when we were there too.....

You vent all you want!!! Just as there are people who will block your view, there are just as many people who will tell you how you are supposed to react and feel about it.

I totally agree and good for you that you didn't let it ruin your day.

I'm so thankful my son is a teenager now and has seen all the parades so we ride the rides now! When Ariel gets here it will be parade time again but what I'm dreading more than the parades is the Autographs!

:lmao: So true

We were at MGM last week too and had a woman in front of us who after SHE took her pictures would then spend the rest of the time waving so the rest of us could have pictures of her hands!

Vent away, people like this really tick me off, and unfortunately because no one wants to cause trouble and say anything they will continue to do this and probably get worse. And you know what, while it didn't ruin your trip, it would have ruined my experience of the parade, and that of my kids, but not my whole trip. If you're like me and you can't get there all the time having the parade view ruined by idiot people would bother me.

[putting on flame proof suit] I'm sorry, but there is no way in the world that I would have let this woman and her family get in front of me. I don't care if she can't "speak English". I would have used some international sign language and show her where she is supposed to stand and where I am supposed to stand - I would have done all this with a smile of course, but it would never ever happen. You and your family got there early enough, staked out your spot and then she has the nerve to get in front of you? not gonna happen.

A couple months ago, I man was in front of me at the very same parade you were. He had his video camera up in the air, completely blocking my view. I was watching the parade through his screen - I politely asked him to lower it and told him that it wasn't enjoyable for me to be watching TV right now, when I have a live performance in front of me....and guess what - he took the camera down.

Sometimes you just have to call people on their acts and they will stop. The woman you encountered wasn't going to listen to a CM, because she knew that the CM would be gone in one second, but if you said something, I think she would have stopped because you are there.
