Lesson of the day: Do NOT attempt to change reservations BEFORE having your morning coffee. :surfweb:

I was just checking out the US website to see if there were any new room rates. Noticed the FL resident stuff, checked the dates, and they were available for our time. Called US and changed from the AAA rate we had to the new rate. Happy, happy happy. :woohoo: Did a little math to see how much we "saved" -- you know where this is going, right?? -- and we are spending a whopping $1.28 more now. :badpc:

If we use the FL resident rate then I can't use my Loews First card. Here's my question -- is being able to use that mean anything that substantial?? I'm pretty much willing to eat the $1.28 but if changing it back to the AAA rate would get us something better I will make the phone call. I'm going to get my coffee now. :rolleyes1

change back to the AAA rate asap. The loewsfirst might not help you beyond the free amenities at check in at first, but every stay helps you get the really good stuff. ;)

I'd switch back too. You want to accumulate stays to put towards getting a platinum card. The platinum card gets you suite (and sweet) upgrades.

I just posted pictures of the Villa Suite at the Portofino. While this suite isn't the automatic platinum upgrade, many of us have been lucky enough to be upgraded to it.

I would switch back to the AAA rates so that you can accumulate those coveted stay points so that you can eventually enjoy an automatic upgrade to a suite :goodvibes

I have a question about LoewsFirst.
When they count your stays for gold & plat. status, does it have to be a certain # within a specific time frame? Ex: 4 stays per year? (like Southwest Airlines FF program where old points expire after 24 mos.)
We stayed at RPR for the 1st time in Sept. Loved it but won't be returning again until next Nov. Do they count your total stays period? We usually don't go multiple times per year so is it still worth persuing?
Sorry if I sound like a duh, I'm still drinking my coffee!
:surfweb:

There doesn't seem to be a time frame at Loews yet but I have heard that it is coming.

Perhaps I'm missing something but, the OP lists Alabama as "home"...

don't you have to be a resident of FL to get the FL discount?:confused3

I thought Loews switched to annual qualification a while ago ... though their website doesn't really mention it. Loews is planning on doubling in size (the recent addition of the ex-Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas being a start to that plan), so I think it's a safe bet that it will occur soon, though I thought it already had.

To follow up on my on post, here are the Loews First Terms and Conditions: http://www.loews-first.com/loewsfirst_terms.asp

Number 12 is:

12. LoewsFirst Gold membership requires three (3) qualifying stays or six (6) cumulative nights (associated with a qualifying stay or stays), in a single Loews Hotel or any combination of Loews Hotels, in a calendar year. LoewsFirst Platinum membership requires ten (10) qualifying stays or fifteen (15) nights (associated with a qualifying stay) in a single Loews Hotel or any combination of Loews Hotels, in a calendar year. A calendar year is defined as January 1 through December 31. Retaining membership in LoewsFirst Gold or LoewsFirst Platinum requires meeting the respective criteria for LoewsFirst Gold or LoewsFirst Platinum each calendar year. LoewsFirst members who were LoewsFirst Gold or LoewsFirst Platinum members prior to June 1, 2003 will retain that status through December 31, 2004, unless a higher status is achieved based on the above stated criteria during the calendar year 2003 or the calendar year 2004. LoewsFirst Blue members and new members will become LoewsFirst Gold or LoewsFirst Platinum members when they meet the above stated criteria. Once a Member attains a tier level, this level will remain in effect through the end of the subsequent calendar year. Post-enrollment stays recorded beginning January 1, 2004 are eligible toward tier-level qualification for the calendar year 2005. Thereafter, Members must requalify each year for the following year's membership.

I wouldn't worry about using a fl. res rate. I have used them every time since I signed up for the card and all my stays counted.it would not make good buisiness sense to exclude fl. rates because during down times its alot of locals staying there. I know someones going to say that this isnt the official loews policy, but our last 6 stays have been fl.rates with no problem, and that keeps us going back. hope you enjoy your stay

Sorry to respond so late...
We're military which is how we can be both FL residents and live in AL.
