I am so sick, my sister and I have a birthday trip planned for my son and wanted to stay at the Grand Californian like we did last year for my other son's birthday. She called and went online and there is NOTHING available at any of the Disney hotels. Do you have any suggestions on how we can can get a room?

Plenty of off-property hotels that are very nice! If you were going to spend that kind of money anyway, I'm sure you can find something really nice.

I would also call and ask if they have any cancellations at least once a day. You might be able to snap something up that way.

We will be there 10/6-10/11
We were able to get a room at the GC for the 9th-11th but nothing for our earlier dates

I would guess it's because gay days period covers those beginning dates you mentioned. Worth checking as it gets closer, people cancel when it gets closer, but definitely have a back up.

I did a search on a few sites like Orbitz, Travelocity and Trivago and all three Disney hotels are sold out for those dates. I'm guessing between Gay Days the weekend before and Columbus Day that next Monday, Halloween parties and October being busier in general, they probably really are sold out.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your help and advice! We will keep checking for cancelations.

Those are kind of tough dates. Gay Days are Oct 2-4 and Choc walk is Oct 11 plus it's Halloween season. I'm actually kind of surprised you managed to get Oct 9-11. I checked GetAwayToday; they are sold out too for 10/6-10/9. If you strike out everywhere, you may want to consider a split stay.

I would definitely book the 9th-11th and that way you'll at least have two nights on property. Switching rooms halfway through your stay might be a bit of an inconvenience but it sounds like it's really important to you to stay on site so that may be your best option.

Best of luck!

Just keep checking. We just went for the D23 Expo and everything was sold out on property for months and then all the sudden about 2 months before some rooms opened up.

I think you should also consider either Hojo or the new Marriott Courtyard Theme Park Entrance with the new fancy waterpark: https://www.google.com/#q=Courtyard+Anaheim+Theme+Park+Entrance Both are across from the park on Harbor Blvd, so walking distance, and are available on your dates right now. They both have waterparks that the kids would enjoy. Depending on their ages, the Hojo is good for little ones and the new Courtyard looks like fun for the older kids.

A split say with GCH may not be so bad if you combine it with one of these places!

I agree with Angrose. You could stay at a Good Neighbor hotel across the street from DL for the first couple of nights and then check into the GCH on 10/9.

Yes to what everyone has said. I'm so sorry I would be completely bummed out also. I'm an onsite all the way girl but we have stayed at the Marriott and Hilton on Convention a few times the first night we got into town and we were okay with those. They are fine Hotels just not on site and you can book without a deposit and still keep checking the three Hotels for cancellations. I would call hard about 10 days before your date because the Resort Hotels cancellation policy is 5 days out. Good Luck!

I see on the calendar thread there is a fabrics convention 7th-9th. Link http://www.disboards.com/threads/2015-calendar-of-events-school-breaks-mhp-and-dlr.3358090/

It's possible what you're looking at is convention goers booking out the on-site hotels. That's been known to happen. Luckily for you (if this is the case) they should be at the convention during the day so it may not be an indication that the parks will be packed. (Just trying for the silver lining here!)

If you plan on staying somewhere else I would check fast. Places are booking up and prices keep going up and up! I booked our room (Oct 18-24) in January, in laws decided to join us last week. I had checked a couple of months ago (cause I can't help myself ;)) and our room category had doubled in price. Now our hotel is booked so they are looking elsewhere - I checked Travelocity for them and several hotels are booked solid.

Try every single day-multiple times if you can- on the Disney website and on the third party websites. You never know when a cancellation might hit. In addition to all of the things quoted above, that is also fall break time for a lot of schools across the country. We are on fall break here your dates. We only get 3 days for fall break, and for people that don't want to take the kids out of school the other 2 days, that makes DL often a better option than WDW. Good luck!! I hope you are able to pick up the full trip at GC!
