Things seem to be OK now. I have my sweet Tipper sitting on my lap, snuggled up and happy, but I feel so bad. Last week, I kept asking my husband if Tippy seemed "off". I couldn't put my finger on what it was, but she just didn't seem herself. She was drinking more than normal and had a few "accidents". We decided it was due to our turning the heat on in the house and then it got warm again. Since the house was hotter than normal, she was drinking more. Thursday evening, she had another accident--this time she had bright red blood in her urine! It scared us so much. We went to the emergency vet and were told she had a urinary tract infection and it had just "blown up." We got antibiotics and a pain shot. Friday morning we saw a vet at our clinic and got additional pain meds. Apparently a UTI is very painful. If I had acted on my concern that she wasn't "right" I could have saved her from suffering. We have 2 weeks of antibiotics, a followup call and a followup urine test. Tipper is much more active and her appetite is slowly coming back. We are cutting back on her pain meds. Her ears are up, but her tail is down. I feel like this is my fault.
Apparently, if your doggie begins drinking more than normal and starts having accidents, you need to get her/him checked for urinary infections. Just wanted to let other puppy owners know and learn from my mistake. Again, I feel so bad over this.

Don't beat yourself up over it. At least you got her taken care of when you really realized it was a problem. My Toby had worms when we first got him - and we described the wrong kind of worms to the vet when we realized he had them. It took almost a month before he was completely healthy. It was really gross for a while there. Anyway, glad she's on meds now, and she'll be better before you know it!
