I expected some rude people, but some of this was ridiculous...

Thought I'd share my favorite breastfeeding on a ride story. I breastfed all three of my sons at amusement parks - my absolute favorite ride for it was the TTA: private, comfortable, and if the baby isn't done after one time around (or two) they'd always just let me stay on for another loop.

I don't specifically remember ever doing it in a car or boat with other people around, but that doesn't mean I didn't. Most breastfeeding moms get pretty slick with it, and I know I could have easily slipped a cranky baby on during, say, POTC, with nobody around me noticing. It doesn't have to be a big deal.

But my favorite was when we took our boys to Kings Island, in Ohio. My youngest was only about five months old, and obviously couldn't do many rides. But they had a Scooby-Doo-themed dark ride there that was kind of like Buzz - you rode around and shot targets. Well, my older boys loved it and I could actually take the baby on it, so we rode that thing probably 20 times that day. Almost every time, I took the opportunity to breastfeed. It was dark and I was in a car by myself, and my youngest was at that age where he was about to start solid food, and was just really wanting to nurse a lot.

At the end of the day, we rode it one last time before leaving and as we exited, we turned the opposite direction from the exit as we had most of the day (heading to the main exit, rather than back towards more rides). I noticed a kiosk that I hadn't seen earlier in the day - a kiosk selling ride photos of the Scooby Doo ride.

So I realized I had been photographed breastfeeding ALL DAY. Over and over. And I never noticed. So much for modesty.

There was an elderly couple both smoking at a table outside the French bakery in Epcot (between that and the rude guy in the bakery, we felt like we really were in Paris…).

Hah, made me laugh about this one. So true.

OP, I am so sorry you had to deal with all of that! I can't believe someone had their child pee in a plant in front of everyone! WHOA!

I will say, that when we were at WDW for a week last month, I was so happy and a little surpised we did not witness anything inconsiderate! It was wonderful!

Okay, so since this has turned into a bf-ing thread, I have a question. If I'm at Disney and a woman who sits next to me on a ride starts to bf her baby without a cover and I watch appreciatively, is that rude? I'm not a guy, nor gay, just appreciative of the female form.

Yes, it's rude. I always used a blanket. I would have felt self conscious otherwise. But I know people who didn't - because their babies just wouldn't tolerate it.

It isn't a selfish act by the woman. It's a loving act, and a necessary act. And it's not really in the woman's control - if the baby needs it, he needs it. (Unless you think breastfeeding mothers and children should be housebound.)

I've never understood all the vitriol and all the mocking and - in my opinion - immature reactions to breastfeeding. I also don't understand the woman who seem to challenge the world to stare at them as they nurse - but there are few of these women. Most work very hard to retain privacy.

Excellent story. :thumbsup2

We've encountered rudeness at DW but it's anywhere you go with a lot of people. There will always be rude people everywhere, so that wouldn't stop me from going to Disney just because a few people are rude.

& to a pp many pages back who said that at first she didn't think NY people were rude but now she does...you probably encountered tourists, there are loads of them all over the city, or the people that have moved here from all over the country...since ya know, there are rude people everywhere!!

But you do tend to remember the rude guests or not so nice CMs and bad experiences more than the nice encounters.

I think much of the rudeness at WDW is more magnified as the result of being with that many people in that small of an area for such an extended period of time, because this can and does happen everywhere.

This morning on my way to work, one of the lanes of traffic was unexpectedly blocked by a stalled car. I checked for cars and there was plenty of room, signaled to merge into the other lane and got over. The woman driving the car in the other lane chose the moment I signaled and merged as the time to accelerate to 50 (in a 35 in a residential area) slam on her brakes behind me, honk incessantly and flip me off repeatedly. She then cut back around me, yelling and gesturing then pulled in front me to purposefully cut me off. There was absolutely no reason for it. I merged because I had to and never even came close to cutting her off, she was many car lengths behind me. She just acted that way out of entitlement and a bad attitude. I'm sure her behavior is the same on vacation, at home and at work.

I wanted to badly to return the favor and give her some time honored gestures of disapproval, but I realized it does no good. Rudeness only begets rudeness and I don't want to be part of the cycle. Plus getting worked up with people only validates their rudeness, I like to stay calm and rational...people with bad attitudes don't know how to handle that and usually just back down.

However, if you mess with one of my dogs or if I had a kid and you messed with them, it would likely be a different story;)

A few years back, I wanna say 08', my husband and I were in Epcot and witnessed an obscene mutation of the plant potty. We were near the Canadian Pavilion when a mother pulled out a giant plastic baggy and held it open for her 3 or 4 year old son to pee in!! After he finished his business she proceeded to pour the pee in the foliage and then fold the bag back up and put it away. It was horrifying! I went to say something to her however it was quite clear she spoke very little to no english. I let a CM know regardless.

As for the hotly discussed breastfeeding debate, I was at a local amusement park here in PA, when I needed to take my then 7 month old daughter to the restroom for a diaper change. Their restrooms had all of the changing stations in the handicap facilities. It was occupied so I patiently started waiting. After about 5 minutes I knocked on the stall to make sure everything was alright. A woman rudely shouted back that she was breastfeeding. It struck a nerve! To think of breastfeeding in a bathroom stall where FECAL MATTER is everywhere is just disgusting! Do you know how easy it would be for that child to ingest ecoli?!? I normally don't snap at people, but I couldn't help it. I not so kindly asked her to remove herself from the stall where people POOP. She grudgingly left, and I made sure to point out there was a bench 20 steps away OUTSIDE of the toliet as well as several nursing stations. I would rather see anyone nurse on a ride than a toliet!

Uhh was she letting the baby suck the toilet? Don't know why you were so upset. Now if she went and didn't wash her hands and handled her breast then there would be a problem but what difference does it make where she sat if the baby only touched her breast? So no I don't know how it would be easy for the baby. That bench could be just as contaminated. Actually there have been tests that bathroom fixtures because they are cleaned regularly are cleaner and less germy than that bench out side or many other surfaces.

I The kid peeing in the pot well I have seen this at POR bus stop but the parents were unaware until they wondered hey were is my kid

As we were returning from a long night at EPCOT our 4 year old was skipping ahead of us and decided he REALLY had to "go". From a several yards back I see him go over to a fountain and start lowering his pants. My wife and I screamed no, ran, caught him, and I ran (carrying him) back to the room so he could use proper facilities. We were mortified at the time, but later were able to look back and laugh at our narrowly averted crisis.

Honestly I have an unpopular opinion when it comes to BF but unless her **** was dragging the ground or touching the comode, I don't see a problem with it. I would rather a mother be descreat and BF in the bathroom then out in public. But again...I have an unpopular opinion about BF.

I see the word I used for the breast was *** out. I didn't know that wasn't ok. sorry.

Wow, didn't take long to get flamed at all. #1 its a toliet, would you eat your dinner in a restroom stall? #2, its a handicap stall with the only changing table. The woman was neither handicapped nor changing her child. I know you're ready to type "OMG She could have changed her child first!" Yes, she likely did but she should have then exited the stall when the diaper was changed. #3 Sure the benches are dirty but the air is much cleaner. Fecal matter is much more likely to contaminate a surface for a short period of time in a restroom (including a b00bie) than it is in an open air environment. There are actual scientific studies to back this up. Nope, baby isn't licking the toliet but it is breathing the air and its also likely moving its mouth when feeding.

It really is getting ridiculous. I was there in March and was in line for Dumbo with my 10 perfect children, when things just went crazy. I heard a crunching noise behind me and when I turned around I saw this 15 foot tall, 5 foot wide ECV with spikes on the front bumper just mowing everybody in the line down. This lady was on top of it wearing a tiny pair of Juicy shorts and no top. She was breastfeeding two kids, like a 10 month old and a 15 year old... not even holding them, they're just kind of latched on and look like they're flying. I ended up losing 4 kids to those steel wheels of terror. I'm not the kind to sit idly by while people are so rude, so as she flew by I yelled "People poop here!"

Wow. 15 pages in one day! Alot of neg vibes here. So I'll try to break it up.

I staked out a parade spot early in Frontierland with my 3 kids. By parade time a family behind me had two kids. So I turned around and told the kids to come up to the front and that I would switch places with them.

The parents were kind and thankful to me. The adults stood behind the kids and everyone was unobstructed. And I made a few new friends.

That's my memory of the last time I was in MK.

Sorry if I struck a nerve, but I personally know a few people who are appalled by nursing in public and they do indeed fit into one of the two. I think it is safe to assume there are more.

I just want the hating to stop and for people to mind their own business.

Well I don't fall in either category & I don't want to see your(general) ****s. I was *trying* to enjoy dinner with my family one night & this woman pulls up her entire shirt w/ no bra on to breast feed in a footbal hold. I'm sure that you're familiar with that hold, right? Well where was her other breast the whole time? Just sitting there on her stomach with an erect nipple. So because she has the *right* to breast feed, everyone around her should be exposed to that view?

Really? Uncalled for. :sad2:

I wasn't trying to flame you....not at all. I just am one of those people who prefer nursing women to keep it private and I can respect the fact that the lady went into the private stall to do so. :)
I think the real issue is the changing tables should be more assessable to women with children so more than one mother can change their baby at a time and people who are handicapped can use their own stall. Maybe there should be benches inside the restroom for BFing moms to use so they are not on a toilet. :confused3

Completely off topic but i just noticed my post count has been the same for the last 3 posts. Wonder if the counter is broken?

I hope that rude smokers like that don't ruin Disney for people like me who obey the rules!

Here is one from the flipside: I "smoke" an electronic cig and its funny when I get dirty looks from people who wander into the smoking areas and give me the stink eye and then wave at my smoke (water vapor with an electronic cig) and exclaim loudly how badly it stinks..... in the designated smoking areas. Happened several times on our trip last week (May 13-20th)

I only had to deal with two rude people on my trip and both of them were part of the same incident. We were waiting for the Backlot Tour and were in the part where it's divided into 3 or 4 lines right before you go to the special effects water tank. I was standing with my hand on one of the handrails. In the next line over, a preteen girl was sitting on the handrail right next to my hand. After a couple minutes, I heard someone say, "excuse me, can you please move?" I hadn't even had time to look where it came from when the girl turned to me with a nasty look on her face and said "MOVE!" I told her she didn't own the handrail and refused to move my hand. Her little brother sat on my hand for a couple minutes but ended up moving over as I can't imagine it's comfortable to sit on someone's hand for very long. Especially since I started using his back as a lean rail. :lmao:
