I expected some rude people, but some of this was ridiculous...

Wherever there are crowds, there are going to be rude people. However, we had experiences this time that really made me wonder where our society is headed...

The worst event (physically) was my wife being knocked down by someone pushing a wheelchair. This woman was literally shoving people out of her way, using the wheelchair like a battering ram. The foot rest struck my wife in the back of the ankle/calf, and she stumbled and would have fallen if I hadn't been there to catch her. The woman pushing the wheelchair didn't even slow down...she just gave my wife a dirty look like my wife was in the wrong, and kept going. My wife had a welt and bruise on her leg, and limped the rest of the night.

The other big incidents weren't as painful, but were just as blatant. I was at the French bakery at Epcot (delicious, BTW), and for those of you who haven't been there yet, there are two lines side-by-side running along two glass display cases. I was next in line on my side, and was just waiting for the CM to take the previous customer's items to the cashier. As she came back, this guy jumped from the other line right in front of me, and immediately started giving his order to the CM. I said "Excuse me, there is a line here.", to which he replied without looking at me "Whatever, boss." Now, I might expect this from a teenager, but this guy was middle aged, well dressed and well groomed. I was just flabbergasted.

Then, of course, there was the woman in the stroller who came late to the parade at Animal Kingdom…she shoved the baby in the stroller between me and an elderly couple up to the ‘line’ marking the parade route. Then, her teenage daughter shoved her way through to the front and stood right in front of my DS9, completely blocking his view. The woman chatted on her cell phone and ignored everyone. I asked the elderly lady if she could still see the parade, and she just shook her head and said nothing surprises her anymore. It was a sad moment.

Then there was the guy who had his toddler pee into a POTTED PLANT at the bus stop!! There was a long row of tall hedges and a few trees just 50 feet away from us, but instead he had his son stand in front of everyone and pee into the potted plant at the corner of the queue area. Wow.
I’m not picking on the smoker’s here, but there were a few that really stood out. Of course, there were the usual ones that smoke while walking in the park, but we had one guy smoking in the queue for Kali River Rapids while inside the building. And, there was the guy smoking in the middle of the extremely overcrowded queue at the bus stop while waiting for the end-of-the-day bus. There was an elderly couple both smoking at a table outside the French bakery in Epcot (between that and the rude guy in the bakery, we felt like we really were in Paris…). And probably the most ridiculous one was the young guy sitting on the half wall that separates the queue in front of the Pooh ride, his shirt half off, smoking in front of all the little kids queued for the ride. It was honestly all I could do to keep from walking up and knocking him off the wall. And, of all the CM’s I mentioned smoking issues to, the young woman directing people for the Pooh ride was the only one to actually go up the guy and tell him he couldn’t smoke there. He gave her a bit of a hard time, but eventually put it out.

Sorry to vent! Again, I’m not saying this is a Disney thing…but it seems every year, people feel more and more entitled to do whatever they want, and feel rules don’t apply to them because they are “special”.

~Wow! Thanks for sharing. That's a whole lot of negativity for one vacation! Sorry about your wife, I'm glad she's okay. In spite of those awful experiences and rude people, I hope there were more positive experiences than negative ones and you at least managed to have fun on your vacation. :goodvibes

It really is terrible how rusde people are. We have witnessed ALL of this and then some while on vacation at Disney (and elsewhere). The smoking thing is my biggest, as I was stating on other boards. I dont mind if people smoke, but they are given a spot to do so, and I dont know why they feel we should share in their smoke.
Cant stand when people push into a parade...but that is a huge complaint here that will probably never go away.
Cant believe the peeing in the plant thing, dont think I could have kept my mouth shut on that one....
People using wheelchairs and strollers as crowd parters...............there are entire boards on here about this. I use a stroller, and yes, I have clipped a person or two, mostly because they just STOP in the middle of the sidewalk. I am always apologizing, even if it is not my fault. It happens, and I would never mind if I was clipped, as long as it was an accident, which it MOST of the time is. We once witnessed a women get knocked to the ground at AK by a jogging stroller, and the person stepped around her and kept going. She was on the ground with a bloody knee, and me and my mom were getting our band-aids out and helping her. The person didnt even look back!!!!!!!! That just completely blew me away.
Kind of sad to see how people are so self centered. I am glad I have raised my kids the right way, I know this because I see them doing the right thing, and noticing when people are not. My kids even have pointed out how rude people were this last trip.

I got smashed into by a wheelchair a few years ago and MAN did it hurt. My ankle started bruising and swelling so much that we had to leave the park so I could sit down and prop it up. AND it was at MVMCP, so it was a ticketed event that we paid for and then had to miss out on!

The guy who did it just laughed when it happened... maybe his way of shrugging it off as no big deal. But when my husband confronted him and asked him to apologize, he "didn't speak English" and therefore couldn't understand why we'd be upset. :confused3

Sad to say, but none of this surprises me. We visit at least two or three times a month and I can't even remember all of the inconsiderate people we've seen. Just there on Tuesday and had my 4 month old DS in a sling and I was run into by a father with his 2 kids in tow racing toward the carousel.

There were a lot of people walking and I was going with the flow on my way to Snow White and he accused me of cutting him off. I looked at him like he was nuts, smiled, and kept going. There was literally nowhere else for me to walk! I just couldn't imagine yelling at a woman carrying an infant (or anyone for that matter) on my way to a ride with no wait- people get so worked up about rushing to each ride they'll plow through whoever they have to.

Like you I've noticed a LOT of smokers outside of the designated area, even one by the exit to Pinocchio's village haus- a CM had to come outside and tell him he couldn't smoke there after customers complained they could smell it inside of the restaurant. Rude people are everywhere though in and outside of Disney... don't think we'll ever be rid of them!

Yet, we still go back over and over again... the good outweighs the bad. :goodvibes

Hmm, another reason to get a misting fan for our next trip. It'll work great to put out all those obnoxious out-of-place cigarettes!

I'm sorry you had so many bad experiences :(. Sad to say, it goes with the territory when there are that many people in one place - unfortunately. But like others have said - as long as the good outweighs the bad, it's worth putting up with it. We've had our share of inconsiderate (to put it nicely) people, but we've also had a ton of interactions with wonderful travelers and CMs, so at least the good still considerably outweighs the bad.

This has been my experience as of late as well. So much so that we did not do WDW this year and it was WONDERFUL. Went to Busch Gardens in Tampa. This is now my favorite park. The employees were so friendly and helpful, the park was very clean. The people seemed more friendly. There were a couple of animal exhibits and the adults in front would always tell my children to move right ahead of them as they could see over htem. It was a refreshing change.

So sorry all these things happened to you. I know it's aggravating, but try to focus on all the positive memories from the trip.

Once, I was waiting at the podium at Flying Fish to give my name and some guy literally PUSHED me out of the way and said he was next. I pushed him back and yelled at him, but he was so arrogant I wanted to punch him in the face. So, I understand, and I hope you had a good time anyway.

This is exactly what I've been telling myself when encountering rude people in WDW. You're absolutely right! :thumbsup2

;) I may or may not have accidentally pointed my misting fan the wrong way.

Gosh OP, I'm sorry you experienced so much rudeness on your trip! It's actually really sad that people can be so blatantly inconsiderate, especially when you're at (what should normally be) the most magical place on earth.

While none of the aforementioned situations is okay, what really gets me - and I guess it isn't rude so much as just gross - is having your kid pee in a PLANT in a crowded area. Seriously? Are you so worried about losing your place in line that you need to have your child urinate in public? That's disgusting.

I noticed some things on my last trip too. The parade thing for example. I think it happens a lot. I mean we staked out our spot for an HOUR and someone comes and stands in front of us? Rude. But there's so many people in such a small space I didn't let it get to me.
But one thing REALLY made me mad.

We got to Hollywood Studios way ahead of time for rope drop and got in line. There were a few people ahead of us. I was turned around talking to my husband when my 8 year old whispers .. "Ummm mom? This little girl just stood in front of me". I saw her, and she wasn't there previously but she was maybe only 10 and I thought maybe she didn't know better and wasn't too bothered by it.
They start letting people in. I hear "That line is quickest!! Go to Kelly's line!! She got further up!"
It's a mom, who's got her three kids in three separate lines. They all run over and push in front of us and go through the turnstile.
She had purposely got her kids to sneak in front of other people and brought her whole family into the line moving the quickest.

I said loudly "Oh THAT"s why that little girl pushed in front of you DS, her mommy told her too because she doesn't like to line up. That's rude isn't it?"
I mean, what else was I going to say? There's kids everywhere:confused3

We get to sign up for Jedi Training and there she is again. 3 spots ahead of me. She didn't see me and is complaining to her husband about the lady who called her rude. And said "Too bad she wasn't smart enough to think of it!"
Are.you.kidding.me

Again.. let it go (well apart from the stink eye) because I had my kids and she had hers but it was so calculated and rude I was dumbfounded.

Didn't let it ruin my day. But I was surprised how awful some people can be.

Overall? The vast majority of people we encountered were kind and polite and having fun like us. It wasn't a bad trip at all. But I really was surprised at that woman's audacity.

I have just learnt to keep my head on a swivel. I always look behind me for stroller wheelchair people and I find walking slower yes slower keeps those who are going to run you over away. The butting in line thing is just the way some people live just imagine how they drive. Honestly I feel sorry for these people the amount of stress they put themselves through just to be two spots up is going to take years off their lives. The kid peeing in the pot well I have seen this at POR bus stop but the parents were unaware until they wondered hey were is my kid:rolleyes1.
The one thing I will never forget happened on a WDW bus. A boy was talking to his dad like little excited boys do. The dad who was texting or something on his phone turned to the boy and said "SHUT UP I AM TRYING TO WORK HERE". Well if people are like this to their own family at WDW....

OP, am I reading this right from your sig line that this was your 1st family trip to WDW? So sorry you had such a bad experience! I agree with others - there are rude people everywhere. Sounds like you just ran into a whole bunch of them, unfortunately. Hope this doesn't keep you from going back.

Ugh! Sounds like you had some awful experiences!

Like the others, I think society has made a turn for the rude!

We live right outside of NYC...and go there a lot. I have always found it odd that people found New Yorkers rude, because I never experienced that. Well, last week we were in the city and people we ruder than I ever experienced. I was getting more and more annoyed!!!!! People shoving and bumping without so much as an excuse me!

Sorry for the rudeness you encountered!!!! It puts a damper on fun times!

Yeah all of what you said OP sounds about right. If you thought the wheelchair was bad, try being run over by an ECV. Not fun. It's like the people in them don't even care, and half the time it's someone's kid who jumped in it to drive around.

Peeing in bushes/plants/etc I used to see a lot when I worked in the parks. Also, a lot of diaper changing in the middle of queues. One time a lady was breastfeeding on my ride! I mean, I get it you need to do that, but find a quiet table somewhere!

I'm not as nice as you OP...so no one better try that stuff in front of me...it's Disney, people can't even be nice at the happiest place on earth...I leave Monday, they better leave now, cuz Dan doesn't deal with that stuff...hope you had a nice trip anyway...

Sorry if I came off as not enjoying our trip! We definitely would not let a few rude people ruin our vacation!

However, it's been awhile since I've been to a big park like that, and it just seems like there were more blatant and deliberately obnoxious behaviors than I remember...

I should also have noted that there were very nice and kind people there, too! :thumbsup2
