We stayed at GF for our honeymoon almost 10 yrs. ago and we loved it. We went back this past July with kids and stayed at POR. We were not impressed at all to say the least.

We are celebrating our 10th Anniversary at the YC, because we like to try new places, and we don't want to be let down again. Anyway, here's my question. For those of you who have stayed in both of these places or just the YC could you tell me about your experiences at the YC?

Thanks! :)

We really didn't care for the YC. Not real sure what it was that we didn't care for. We had a great room was upgraded at check-in and had a great view. It just didn't feel right. We liked the BC and BW and we also thought GF was great but not for the price. Sorry if I really didn't help you out, like I said the YC is nice but just didn't feel right. Maine :firefight

Hi ABK,

If you do a search on this board you'll find many threads on the YC.

It's hard to give you advice on this topic. I don't know what it was that made you say you were not impressed with POR, but comparing the GF with POR is like comparing the Four Seasons with a Holiday Inn. You will not get the same amenities and level of service at a two star hotel as you will at a four star hotel.

POR is a nice hotel for the price. But if you are comparing it to the GF it will not be able to come close.

YC and BC are deluxe WDW resorts and therefore the level of service and the amenities will be closer to GF than POR was. What you and your family will like is strictly a matter of personal taste.

Enjoy your trip!

The Yacht Club is absolutely lovely. Have stayed there several times and enjoyed each experience. The location couldn't be better. Walking distance to Epcot and if you dont feel like walking you can take those fun water taxis to both Epcot and the Studios. So many, many choices of really good restaurants, plus all the places to eat at World Showcase. Beautiful view across the lake to Boardwalk. Also, a nice place to stroll at nighttime over to the Boardwalk and maybe rent a bicycle built for 4 or 6! Have gotten upgrade to conceirge twice, but even the standard rooms are extremely nice and the nautical decor is beautiful. With only one exception, all the CM's have been friendly and helpful and courteous. I don't think you will be disappointed at all. I have stayed at GF, and of the two, I would choose YC any day. Try it, I think you'll like it!!

We haven't stayed in the YC, but we have stayed at the BC and walked around the YC often. I'm sure the YC is a wonderful hotel to stay in, but it just doesn't appeal to us. The YC seems "dark and stuffy" while the BC is "light and airy". I have a feeling that may be what people mean when they say the YC didn't "feel right".

We love the beachy, more laid back feel of the BC. That being said, both the YC and BC are part of the same resort complex and share Stormalong Bay. The location and amenities of both resorts are wonderful. I have a hard time imagining that you'd be disappointed in the YC, especially if the decor suits your tastes.

We have stayed at the YC a couple of times thru the years, and the only thing that REALLY stands out in my mind is THIN WALLS!!! :guilty:

I won't stay there again. I just could not get a good night sleep. It was AWFUL. I love a lot of things about it, the pools, the atmosphere, the location, restautants......but I NEED my sleep!! :bitelip:

If you liked the GF, do it again!! The GF is my favorite resort in WDW. We are trying the BWI for our Thanksgiving trip (we like to try new places, too) so we'll see how the two compare, but I recommend returning to the GF. Your kids will love it, too! :sunny:

Happy planning!

For my first trip ever to WDW we stayed at the YC and we loved it! We liked the nautical theming and thought the resort was beautiful. We loved the pool area (Stormalong Bay), especially at night. We loved the proximity to Epcot, our favorite park (now that we have DD, we stay at monorail resorts to be closest to MK). Don't recall any problems with thin walls, and I love my beauty sleep, too! It feels a bit more formal because of the nautical theme, but we saw lots of happy families (Jason Alexander and his family were there when we were there! Our only celebrity sighting, right there in the pool...).

If you like nautical, I think you'll like your stay at the YC - it's beautiful!

Congratulations on your 10th Anniversary! :sunny:

Maybe if you could tell us why you were not impressed, we could be of more help.

We absolutely LOVE the Yacht and Beach Club. The location is wonderful for couples I think. Crescent Lake is beautiful, there are tons of nice romantic restaurants in the Epcot Resort area not to mention World Showcase. You can rent a surrey bike...very romantic. The CMs at the Yacht Club are top notch, the rooms are fresh and updated. I can't think of one single bad thing to say about it. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. You'll have a blast.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess we didn't like POR because it was too big and we didn't feel the Disney magic.

The Grand Floridian is my favorite resort, the Yacht Club goes in a very close second.

I love the darker, sophisticated decor or a exclusive Yacht Club. The rooms are not dark by any means, the decor being bright and cheerful. I love the full balconies and some of the views of Epcot are just spectacular. We love the closeness to Epcot and MGM, the pools and the places to eat.

They have a great staff. Can't think of a single thing we did not like.

DH and I also stayed at GF for our honeymoon and loved it - in fact its where I wanted to stay for our trip in 3 weeks but -- I was outvoted! DH, DS11, DD6 and DD4 all wanted to go back to YC for a third time!

We all love this resort and I am psyched to be going back (although for our '07 trip which will be our 15th anniversary we are staying at GF!) It is beautiful and comfortable and welcoming. The location is wonderful with lots to do and many great restaurants. My kids love the pool. We have walked to Fantasia Mini-golf which stays open fairly late and is a fun thing to do at night.

Have a wonderful trip and I hope you enjoy YC!

Cheers-

See now, we just left the Grand and thought it was the noisiest resort we've ever stayed at!!! We were on the 2nd floor in Conch Key and heard *everything* that happened out in the lobby area and halls. My hubby and I were saying we can't remember ever hearing that much noise in any of the other hotels we've stayed in.

That aside, we LOVED the GF and will definitely stay there again. Our complaints are few (the noise, the landscape crew outside our window at 6:30 a.m., the lukewarm shower -- never ever got hot! -- and the constant dodging of golfcarts), and there was a lot to love (the wonderful comfy beds, the friendly cast members, the monorail, the rides to our room and then to our car with all our luggage, etc. etc.).

For a romantic anniversary trip, I would definitely recommend the Grand! In fact, my dh has designated it our "anniversary hotel". ;)

We didn't stay in the YC, but visited many times. I think if you really loved the GF, you would love the BWI. It is a smaller resort with a more intimate feel, it is grand without being stuffy, if that makes sense.

We have stayed at all three places also...we do not care for POR, we hated GF, YC we did a second honeymoon at..we liked it much better than POR or YC.
