Big confession/ guilty conscience time! It's possible to abuse your child by NOT letting them ride!!
On our last trip to orlando (1999) our youngest child, Chloe, was 10. We were with a friend and her 9 year old, plus our other 2 teenagers. I have always been terrified of fast rides and couldn't bring myself to overcome this feeling. Instead of being a good mummy and hiding this from Chloe I made such a fuss when the others were trying to persuade me to ride that in the end I put her off riding too! So all the others went off and we stood with the bags! She has never allowed me to forget this. It proves what a deprived childhood she had!
Then the next summer to redeem myself I took her to a UK theme park called Alton Towers. The idea being that I would make up for wimping out at Disney by riding all the scarey things there with her. Did I? Did I heck!! Poor kid had to ride on her own! I've not been allowed to forget that either.
However, this does have a happy ending as last year we went to DLP and I DID IT!!! I RODE SPACE MOUNTAIN TWICE IN A ROW AND R'NRCOASTER OVER AND OVER. I don't know what made the difference but I faced the fear and did it anyway. Chloe was SO proud of me she bought me a special 'bravery' mug.
We're off the WDW in August and I'm so excited. I will go on absolutely everything, shout 'yee-ha' as we loop the loop and even raise my arms at the top of the track!
Chloe, I am so sorry for nearly destroying your childhood! Phew, I feel so much better now!
