I don't know about you, but I'm going for the food(w/ pics!)Update-Wolfgang Puck Cafe

Looking forward to more!
Some of the restaurants on your list are on my possible list for next February, so help me decide!

My DD's ate at Yak and Yeti this past January and were bragging about it the other day. They said is was the best meal they had at WDW. DH and I stayed behind and ate at the CSR foodcourt which was good, but I guess we really missed out according to them?

You have a lot of the same restaurants I am working on reviewing! We enjoyed most of them!

We were supposed to go to Yak&Yeti one day but we just weren't hungry so we passed it up. Still not sure if we should have gone but hubby wasn't interested in having Chinese food on our vacation.

Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your experiences!

So we finally get to the first night dinner, Jiko. YAY!!! :cool1: We were really looking forward to this. We went last year and loved it, and I have to say that this year did not disappoint! We had a late reservation (9:45), so I did worry a bit about how well we would be taken care of, but there was absolutely no reason to. Amazing food, amazing service. Okay, I know enough talking and on to the food!

First we ordered drinks. I got the Mount Kilimarita.
072.jpg

Sauza tequila, Cointreau, citrus and cranberry. So good! I love margaritas and this was right up my alley.

DH go the Hangin out in Capetown.
073.jpg

I don't remember everything in it, but it had peach schnapps and cranberry. He loved it.

Then came the bread and butter.
074.jpg

The bread was soft, and a little sweet, like oatmeal bread. The butter was a curry butter, and it was wonderful. The two worked really well together.

For an appetizer, DH got the Spiced Ostrich Filet
075.jpg

Another new thing he tried! It came with spiced chick peas, red onion, tomato, and lemon mint yogurt. It was good by itself, but with the chick pea mixture was amazing! I don't remember the yogurt. Maybe DH ate it before I had a chance?

I had the Chef's speciatly flatbread
076.jpg

This had sundried tomato, artichokes, goat cheese, and rocket pesto. I have to admit DH appetizer won. Mine was good, but the pesto was a little bland, and there wasn't enough goat cheese for me. It was kind of lumped in one area, mostly. Let's just say the distribution wasn't good, so it sort of tasted like a different flatbread in every bite.

For dinner, DH got the Barbeque braised Short rib
077.jpg

This came with roasted yukon potato salad and onion-garlic sauce. This is the same thing that he got last year. He said it was absolutely fabulous. The barbeque sauce was nice and sweet, and the potatoes were well done. The meat literally falls off the bone the moment you touch it.

I opted for the Oak grilled Filet Mignon
078.jpg

This came with mac and cheese and a red wine sauce. I loved it. And I promise I just cut into it so you could see my beautiful rare steak. Honest.:lmao: The wine sauce worked really well with the filet. I didn't care for the mac and cheese, but I had gotten that for DH anyway. I don't generally like mac and cheese at all.

On to Dessert!
DH had the Chocolate cheesecake, with chocolate ganache and lavender ice cream
081.jpg
081.jpg

He said it was very good and very rich. He also loved the ice cream

I had the housemade lemon curd
082.jpg

This had pomagranate and blueberry compote, white chocolate biscotti, and sour cream ice cream. The lemon curd was just tart enough, and the berries mixed will with it. The ice cream was so good. Definately not a heavy sour cream taste.

Lastly, they gave us a "celebration" ei)smaller serving of the pistachia creme brulee as a suprise!
083.jpg

It had chocolate on bottom, and was absolutely to die for! My favorite dessert of the trip.

Overall, Jiko was great once again. We will definately return next year.

I just love that short rib at JIKO, so much so it'll be hard for me to choose something different to try in October! Thanks for the great pics & review!!!!

Jiko looks amazing. I'm eating there on my first night this trip, just like you did. I have yet to dine there, so I knew I'd have to do it on the first day or I would be drooling all week just thinking about. Actually, I'm kind of drooling right now! Thanks for the great reviews.:thumbsup2

Really enjoying your reviews so far. I love Jiko, it's one of my favourites, and I loved that lemon curd dessert when I tried it last year. The ostrich looks really good too, I'm not normally a huge meat eater but I may give this a try in October.

Sorry it's taken so long for an update. Life seems to have gotten in the way this summer! Anyway, I am back for another installment!

On our second day, we decided to go to DTD, and eat lunch at Wolfgang Puck cafe. It's got a beautiful glass wall in the back overlooking the water.

DH started with the Passionfruit Mojito:

109.jpg

Looked liked and tasted like a regular mojito. Don't get me wrong, the regular ones are great, I just wonder why they called it passionfruit when there was none...

I ordered a lemonade of some sort (sorry- I don't remember the name)

108.jpg

It was good. Not write home good, but good.

Then out came the bread. YAY, bread! We were starving!

111.jpg

It was like crispy pizza crust, which was great. The rolls were regular dinner rolls. They served it with olive oil with balsamic vinegar, which I love, so I was happy.

For appetizers, DH ordered the MAryland crabcake, with tomato basil aoli

115.jpg

He said that they had tons of breadcrumbs in them, and were really dry. So Sad.

I ordered the Artichoke and cheese dip.

114.jpg

California artichokes with marscapone and fontina, and crispy flatbread. This had a lot of bread filling too. The flatbread had melted parmesian cheese, which was really yummy. I loved this.

DH ordered the Margherita Pizza for his meal

117.jpg

The menu says roma tomatoes and basil, although I think it had sundried tomatoes too. He said it was passable. Although he doesn't like tomatoes, so I'm not sure why he got it...

I got the Chilean Salmon.

118.jpg

Served with garlic whipped potatoes, asparagus, and basil butter sauce. I have to say, I was sooo excited about this dish. Some of my absolute favorite things all in one place! I was horribly disappointed when it came, though. The salmon was dry- well done instead of the normal medium. The potatoes were okay, but pretty dry themselves. The sauce had absolutely ( and I do mean absolutely) no flavor, and the asparagus was flavorless. I just ate a few bites and pushed it aside. I was a little disappointed when the server never came by to ask how it was. I'm not a complainer, and really didn't want anything else, but it's just nice to be acknowledged sometimes.

On to dessert...

DH ordered the double chocolate mud pie

120.jpg

I was good, but was frozen to the point that it was basically chocolate ice cream in the shape of a pie piece with chocolate syrup on top.

I had the key lime pie.

121.jpg

With Graham cracker crust. This also had very little flavor.

Overall, we were not impressed with Wolfgang Puck Cafe. It wasn't really bad, just not good. Maybe we should have tried the express. Everyone seems to love that. Regretfully, I can't say that this was the worst meal of the trip. But that will come later!

Sorry it's taken so long for an update. Life seems to have gotten in the way this summer!

Hey - better late than never...and food porn is good whether it's new or old. Bummer about WPC -- the foods LOOKS good...to bad it was flavorless.

That Jiko steak looks awesome (love rare steak!)

Thanks. The steak at Jiko was awesome. We love Jiko so much. WPC wasn't horrible, just tasteless. There are just so many good restaurants to go to in WDW, that we won't be back. It's a shame, because I was really excited about it.

Sorry to hear you didnt like WPC. I've never eaten there myself, but I've always enjoyed WPE. It's actually my favorite CS restaurant.

Looking forward to more reviews.:goodvibes
