My resale contract closed on 6/25 and the deed was recorded on 6/26... Looking in my spam email I have a pretty well known broker asking me to sell my DVC points with them. Has this ever happened to anyone else. I am wondering how they even got my email.

I saw the title of your post and was coming to tell you that your ownership information is public record. But I don’t think it includes your email address, so now I’d have to be suspicious that the broker or title company involved in your recent purchase shared that information. Or some other website that you linked your email address to. It’s apparently easy for businesses to do that now.

That is insane to me, I knew the deed was public record. I actually found the deed record before my title company even informed me it was closed. I would be quite frustrated to find out that my broker or title company shared that information because i used a well known often used broker and the title company they recommended.

That being said DVC direct told me that they do not share my information but after putting in an app through their credit line I got over 30 calls the next few days about me trying to get a mortgage.... I was so mad I called the guide to let her know what happened.

This one was very direct about it being DVC points and it acts like i requested it but the only time ive been on their website it was to look at buying a contract lol
Have you contacted multiple brokers about various offers? I have submitted maybe 15 offers over the past 6 months and closed on 2 contracts. I see a ton of targeted ads but nothing in my email about selling DVC.

Did you enter your email address there, or just cruise their website? I would certainly not want to do business with them in any case.

There are commercially available services out there that help to consolidate public records and contact information for sale to enterprise. It is possible they were still able to figure out your email based on the public record filing.

FWIW This is the credit bureau who sold your data, not Disney. They have standing contracts to sell the name of everyone who requests a loan that meets XYZ characteristic to various companies, many of which are shady as heck.

I hate to tell you this but it is trivial for one of the big data houses to link a property sale that they find in public records - which they mine in real time - to the name and address of the new owner, and that big data house not only has your email address, but your spam email address, your phone number, your web traffic history, the accounts you follow on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, a pretty close guess at your income, your kids names, the approximate weight of your pets, etc etc etc. They even have your grocery purchase history and know if you like Plain M&M’s or Peanut.

That’s just the world in 2024 and to avoid it you’ll need to start paying cash for everything and make big purchases with a trust, and then use VPNs and those web browsers that spies use and turn off location on your phone and leave it off all the time.

Id respond and ask how they got your info.

I wouldn’t worry about it to much. Just ignore it and block the email address if they keep bugging you. Any time you buy something that is a public record it will trigger all sorts of automated spam
