...I think in this case, I would make an exception...I highlighted in bold what made me laugh out loud....

Dad Slugs Man Who Offers Money To Girl For Sex

POSTED: 8:20 a.m. EST February 13, 2004

YORK, Pa. -- What would you do if a man offered to pay your teenage daughter for sex while she was shopping?

Jimmy Hunt punched the man in the face. Prosecutors in York charged Hunt with disorderly conduct and simple assault. But they later dropped the charges after concluding that no jury would convict him.

Prosecutor Bill Graff said you can't take the law into your own hands, but it's likely that they'd get parents who'd say that's what they'd do if it was their daughter.

There's no disputing the fact that Hunt punched Armondo Hernandez in the face after he approached Hunt's 17-year-old daughter while she was shopping for nail polish at a Wal-Mart. Hunt called police after the incident.

Hernandez has pleaded guilty to indecent assault and harassment. "

GO DAD!!!! I imagine my reaction (and my husbands) would be the same...

I'd have the same reaction too.

I'm impressed he had the wherewithall to stop at a punch! That guy wouldn't be fit for dog meat after my dad had gotten through with him. I know! A very similar situation happened to me when I was 16. Good for him!!!!!

Keep the faith!

How scary! I've shopped at that Wal-Mart!!

Good thing my daughter has a black belt in karate!! She would have tried to avoid a confrontation but if push came to shove, she would not wait for her father to hit the guy. :D

Good for DAD!!! Like a previous poster said, I can think of another place that would be hurting also!!

What I find utterly amazing is that this idiot offered money for sex (isn't that illegal in most places?) and then HE called the police!

Is he going to be arrested?

Unreal! Now my ex, my DD's father, would have tried to make nice with the guy (the wuss). My DH would have done more than clock him, and his is only my DD's stepdad. Talk about opposites

Actually, the father is the one who called the police...and I agree, he was soliciting for sex but he was only charged with indecent assault and harassment...I wonder why?

That jerk ought to be happy that the dad only slugged him in the face. Wal-Mart carries a nice selection of baseball bats...

Oh, I heard about this! I had heard that he groped the girl in Wal Mart too? I wonder if Wal Mart has security, or video cameras? You would think that if they saw this going on they would have run out to help the girl.

P&W was this on national news?:D

Lol, I saw it in my news. I was just looking for more details about it. Ugh, sounds awful!

here is the original story...my only question is this...why did the girl stick around rather than heading for the service desk.........and reporting the man...

York Twp. dad says trial, not plea
A York Township man claims he was defending his daughter. Police say he should’ve let them handle it.

A York Township man charged with simple assault for allegedly punching a man who tried to solicit his 17-year-old daughter for sex is taking his case to trial.
Springettsbury Township Police charged Jimmy R. Hunt, 50, of the 1900 block of Cherry Manor Drive, with simple assault and disorderly conduct July 15, almost two weeks after he “detained” Armondo Hernandez at a Springettsbury Township store.

Hunt claims he didn’t punch Hernandez, but police allege Hunt hit Hernandez so hard that the man needed three stitches to close his wounds.

According to court documents, police were dispatched to Wal-Mart in the 2800 block of East Market Street around 8:43 p.m. July 3 for a problem in the shoe department.

When officers arrived, they met Jamie Hunt, who said that she called her father after a man, later identified as Hernandez, touched and grabbed at her while she was shopping for nail polish.

She told police Hernandez kept making advances and eventually offered her $200 to $300, in exchange for a sexual favor, court documents state. At that point, Hunt yelled at Hernandez, and he let her go.

Jamie Hunt told police that after she called her father, Jimmy Hunt, arrived at the store about 10 to 15 minutes later. When he got there, his daughter pointed out the man who assaulted her. Hunt said that’s when he knocked Hernandez to the ground.

Police allege Hunt punched Hernandez in the face, but Hunt said he only “detained” Hernandez until store security and police could respond.

Hernandez, 39, of the 3400 block of East Market Street, later pleaded guilty to indecent assault and harassment, according to court records. Judge Michael E. Bortner sentenced Hernandez to time served to 18 months in York County Prison. Bortner also ordered that Hernandez be deported to his native country, Honduras.

Jimmy Hunt said he feels he did the right thing and was justified in his actions and he wants the charges dropped. However, Springettsbury Lt. Scott Laird said Hunt should have called police instead of scuffling with Hernandez himself.

“It doesn’t give him the right to essentially take the law into his own hands and assault the guy,” Laird said. “A person has a right to defend themselves if they are in the process of being physically harmed, however, that was not the case (here).”

Hunt said he was offered a plea agreement by the York County District Attorney’s Office.

He could have pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and received a fine, but he declined to take the offer in the hopes that a jury might be sympathetic to his situation, he said.
