I did something very stupid...

Forgot to bank my 2010 points! I forgot that I changed my reservation in November for my sister to a studio down from a 1bedroom and I ended up saving 60 points that can not be banked.

What does everyone recommend I do with them? My use year is March and per my phone call to MS this morning, I can only use them for stays in February 2011 (would have to make reservations soon - arrival date must be 60 days after booking date per MS) and they would expire March 1.

I am a CPA in Michigan and can not travel at all in February!!

Options -
1) rent them super cheap (like $6 or $7) for someone who wants to travel in February,
2) give to my parents who live in Florida but were just there in November
3) donate???

Any suggestions are very very welcome! I could just kick myself for letting this happen - I am usually very very good about all this!!

Call back and see if they'll bank them for you - I've seen many, many accounts of people being allowed a "one time only" exception to the banking policy.

I agree call MS again and ask if you could get a one time banking exemption. It sure would be worth it to check.

Did you make the change within 30 days of arrival? If so, they went into holding. Holding points can only be used within 60 days of arrival. So you could make a reservation now up to around January 29, you could not go past that. You could not make a February reservation now, you would have to wait until 60 days before your arrival date.

Holding points cannot be banked.

Thanks! I just tried and no go. Now MS says that I could use them anytime from now to 2/28 just can't call more than 60 days in advance for reservations.

I think I will shop them around to my friends to see if anyone wants a January holiday!

Yes - just called MS again and they are holding points. My sister must have cancelled part of the reservation when she changed rooms. So confusing.

I think I am off to the rent/transfer board to see if I can make lemonade out of lemons!

You need to be clear that they are holding points. There probably is not alot of DVC availability in December or January. Considering the recent thread about rental problems, you may want to consider if it's worth the risk for 60 points.

think the best course is call your parents and see if they can use them.

Nov - Jan or Feb - that is time enough for me....

You could also try Dave's rentals, I have heard if you can catch a renter you get a good transaction.

I have had good luck (renting points from others), adding a day or 2 last minute to a RSVP. I cannot tell you no risk, but I think renting is a great option too.
