I just turned around to him and said "John (not his name) are you almost done with that bag of sunflower seeds? They are REALLY annoying me"

he looks me dead in the face, takes the bag, folds it up and puts it in his desk "Sorry - I won't eat them again"

I said "I don't care if you eat them - but ALL THE TIME?"

then he emails me and says "If I knew they really bothered you, I would have stopped a while ago"

I was all shaky after I said something - I HATE confrontation.

Apparenlty last friday, my day off, something WAS said and he blatenly ignored them.

After he stopped with the sunflower seeds...he started whisteling.

Do some people just have to be making noise ALL the time?

Wow, that was nice of you. My co-worker does this all the time and I have never once been bothered by it, but then again I realize that there are probablly things about me that annoy her so I just try to respect that.

Just as a reminder...this man has been eating sunflower seed 6 hours a day for the past 5 days.

It was REALLY grating on our nerves here.

cruch spit crunch spit...so nasty

I understand!! This girl does it all day, everyday since I have worked here(about six months). Like I said, I am sure we all have things about us that annoy others and we have to remember no one is perfedt even though some may think they are. I am glad you got the situation cleared up.

my lord - how do you do it???!?!?!?
it's worse then nails on a chalkboard for me!

(he should be coming back any minute with his 'two bags of chips for lunch"...I give him this...but the sunflower seeds HAD to go! expecially when you work as a programmer in an office that is pretty quiet!)

Did he recently quit smoking? Or maybe its just a tension reliever and he needs one of the squishy squeeze balls.....silent yet it would give him something to do. I think after the first day I'd have tossed him a stick of gum so he couldn't eat the seeds. :p

Wow! I can't believe you actually confronted him! Kudos!

Maybe he was eating the sunflower seeds as a substitution for something else.

I know when DH tried to quit smoking he took up the sunflower seed habit to keep his mouth busy.

I'mnot saying you were wrong in what you said, just an explanation of why he may have been doing something so annoying. :D

I still say buy him a big bag of mini marshmallows and say...

"Eat your heart out";)

Wow, 6 hours? He must have had no feeling left in his lips or tongue! I eat them for 15 minutes and the tip of my tongue gets numb from the salt!

No - he hasn't quit smoking...he never smoked. Unless you count that OTHER stuff...which I really don't know his status on that.

I kept forgetting to buy him marshmallows...but I always liked that idea.

It annoyed everyone that sat in the surrounding cubes...someone had to say something.

And I find it funny that last week when I posted that this was annoying...that everyone agreed and threw in what they thought was annoying at work.

but now that I said something to make the workplace more comfortable for me and 5 other people...I'm getting questioned.

funny.

Man I have said stuff to my annoying coworker and so have others... and for whatever reason she thinks people are joking. Glad to put a stop to the seeds, sorry he is whistling now. ugh!!

Maybe you would feel better about the whole thing and have good neighbor relations by getting him already shelled sunflower seeds?

I take it he doesn't buy the seeds already shelled? Maybe he could do that. It would certainly eliminate all the noise.

Someone I worked with smacked their gum really loud and another co-worker called her on it. She then stopped.

I think if you're making lots of noise, either by eating, talking loud on speakerphone, etc., you really need to respect the feelings of others. Perhaps the question came in to how you did it (yelling instead of mentioning it as a sidenote).

Don't think you are nuts (nonintended pun).
Chewing and spitting on sunflower seeds would drive me crazy too.
Last January we all got huge bags of sunflower seeds from our boss and the smell, noise and trash was awful. Bad breath was a big problem as well!

I hate confrontations too.... it is great you were able to say something! I know how hard that is to do!
I understand what you mean about some people having to make noise all the time... I am by nature a pretty quiet person - so that tends to drive me nutso too!

GOOD FOR YOU! ::yes::

I did not yell when I ask him...but I probably put more sass in my conotation than I should have. I'm just glad I finally said something...even surrounding cubemates came over and thanked me.

Good for you, Stinkerbelle. It is so hard to talk with folks and risk confrontation esp at work!
