I Could Have Had a Cruise. Instead, I'm Going to WDW! May 2010 PTR - ONE MORE DAY!!!

I recently discovered a thread here on the DISboards about Disney Nights. I had never heard of such a thing. So being the curious person that I am, I clicked on the thread and my life will never be the same! People actually have nights that are themed around anything Disney! Why have I never known about this?! I am seriously upset that I could have been having Disney nights the past couple of years but I wasn’t creative enough to think to do it on my own! Oh well. I’ll just have to start making up for it.

After I read about these Disney themed nights, I decided that it would be fun to have them as we count down till our trip to Disney. Every Friday we’ll have a different Disney theme and we’ll take turns picking.

So for our first Disney night, we had a celebration for our trip. No real specific theme. Just a Disney theme. I thought it would be fun to have a breakfast meal since our first meal at Disney is always Chef Mickey’s. Our menu was: Mickey pancakes, cheesy eggs, bacon, toast, orange juice, and Nesquik chocolate milk. It was so yummy! We then decorated Mickey heads (which was messy and fun). To finish off the evening, we watched then planning video we received from Disney while snacking on popcorn.

At the end of the night, we decided that the order for picking our Disney nights will be: Alex, Lauren, Mike, then me. So it was Alex’s turn to pick for next week. What did he pick? Haunted Mansion (his favorite ride). So I guess we’ll be having a spooky theme next week. Mwahahaha!

Here’s some pictures from our very first Disney Night:

What a great Disney night! Love all the decor and the Disney outfits. It is such a fun idea. I need to find my Disney box!

Wow!! I love that -- especially if you have small kids, you can get excited right along with them! You had some creativity, there...love the invitation!

I'm going to check out the link -- but our newly-dubbed teen will not be impressed unless it's "cool" -- not sure I can pull that off! (sigh) I miss the "little kid" stage, sometimes. :)

I love your Disney night. It looks like ya'll had a fun time. The decorations were perfect and so was the selection of food :thumbsup2.

Thanks! We had a really fun time. They're already getting excited about the next one!

That is too cute!! I love the decorations, food, and cute Mickey head activity!!! How fun!! We plan on doing some themed nights as well. Here is a link I found here on the DIS with some ideas if you want to check it out: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1707141.

Thanks for posting the link! There are so many great ideas!

It goes too fast! It seems like yesterday mine were little babies.

Thanks! The food was really good (if I do say so myself).

Looks like Disney Night #1 was a success!!

I had a lot of fun plannning it. Thank goodness Mike and the kids enjoyed it.

So the next one is Haunted Mansion themed. We're having pigs in a blanket, but we'll call them mummy dogs. Anyone have any other ideas? I'm having a hard time thinking of side dishes and I'll probably want to do some kind of dessert. I'd appreciate any ideas. :thumbsup2

Hi Alicia ! :wave2: I followed the link in your sig from your post on my PTR. I am caught up and so glad to "meet" other May DISers. :) Your family sounds like a fun one, and I love your Disney Night with your Chef Mickey's menu! Sounds great! :thumbsup2

Off topic, but just wondering, how's the weather going to be this weekend up Knoxville way? We have a weekend trip planned to Gatlinburg.

They're saying it's supposed to be in the mid 40s and partly cloudy. It tends to be just a bit colder in Gatlinburg though since it's at a higher elevation. Hope you have a good time! Are you planning on seeing any of the attractions while there (Aquarium, Ober Gatlinburg)?

Thanks! :thumbsup2 Looks like I will need to be bundled up with gloves and hats!

We've done the aquarium, and ober before on trips. This is actually a church/youth related trip, so I will be with around 45 people from my congregation. There are sessions that we will attend Fri night, Sat morning, Sat night , and then Sunday morning. We'll just go with the flow during the kids' "down/free" time .

AWWWW...Disney night looked like so much fun! I have been trying to come up with some ideas for DIsney nights over here.

Thanks for the link Becky!

Here's some thoughts for you on the HM night: those curly fries might be reintroduced as "wormy fries"...and if you have grapes, I was thinking a little ingenuity might turn them into eyeballs...

and for dessert, the classic chocolate pudding (mud) sprinkled with oreos (dirt), and stuck in the dirt: one of those candy sticks that come with the lick-o-stick thing (I can't think of the name of that candy that's just powder & you dip the licked stick in??) -- broken in half to represent the tombstone!

Well, that's my thought...there might be something better to represent the tombstone...???

Good luck -- can't wait to see what you come up with! :yay:

Those are great ideas! Alex would love to eat "wormy fries" (I don't know of any boy that wouldn't like to eat those fries).

It's funny you mentioned those candies that you dip in the powder, Alex brought some home last week from church (I think his Sunday school teachers gave him them for Valentine's day). I bet they would make great tombstones.

Thank you so much!

Do your children ask that? Alex and Lauren love to ask this on any long drive. So whenever we drive to Disney we hear this repeatedly. I’m sure this trip will be no different.

Knowing me, I’ll have started making a packing list weeks in advanced. I’m slightly OCD. Just slightly. We’ll start packing probably a couple days before we’re supposed to leave. The van will get packed up partially the night before and then finished the day of departure. I’m trying to find rolling suitcases for the kids so they can partially be responsible for their own luggage. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might find Disney themed kiddie luggage?

We plan on leaving K-Town(:lmao: the K-Town term always makes me laugh for some reason) on May 20th and hope to be on the road by 1:00pm. We’ll see. We’ll be picking Alex up from Kindergarten at about 12:45 so I’m thinking we could be on the interstate by 1:00 (especially if I’m driving) :drive:. Mom will drive to our house earlier that morning and leave her vehicle here (since going to pick her up is in the opposite direction of going to Disney World). I’m really hoping that we won’t have a ton of stuff to bring. In previous years we’ve had to bring: bed rails, pack-in-play, diapers, formula, baby food, yogurt, bibs, spoons, wipes, mattress for pack-in-play. :sad2: On one trip we even brought an exersaucer (you know, the circular bouncy things that you put your child in and they can turn around and play with all sorts of things. Here’s a picture of Alex in his. We took it because he LOVED his.
IMGP1585.jpg

So I think we’ll have more room in the van this year. Yay! Maybe we could even have a dance in the van! :dance3:

We plan to drive to southern Atlanta and eat at a Wendy’s we’ve eaten at the past two trips. Atlanta. :headache: I cringe every time I hear the name of that city. I never liked driving through it but our 2007 trip was the last straw for me. We were driving through on a Friday, during rush hour! I don’t know why, we just never put two and two together to figure out that if we left at a certain time, we would be in Atlanta during rush hour. :rolleyes1 Not only that, there was a really bad thunderstorm that went through right before we hit Atlanta and it seemed like half the power was out in Atlanta. It took us 2 hours to drive through downtown Atlanta!! And guess what? We’ll be driving through Atlanta this time during rush hour. Are we crazy?! Yes, but I’m willing to go through crazy Atlanta during rush hour if it means the end result is WDW. Disney or bust!! :thumbsup2

So after we eat in Atlanta, we’ll continue southward through the never-ending state of Georgia, (Really. I think Georgia is a nice state it’s just sooooooo long! You’re driving thinking “I just want to get to Florida! How much longer does this state go on for? Are we there yet?!”) through Florida to our stopping place for the night, Gainesville. I chuckle every time I think about us staying in Gainesville. Home to the Florida Gators. Our home is where the Tennessee Volunteers reside. Bitter rivals. (It’s just college football thing y’all. More specific, it’s an SEC thing.) Honestly, on our last trip, we enjoyed our stay in this town (although we weren’t wearing anything that indicated we are UT Volunteers).;) We stayed at a Red Roof Inn there which was nice. It wasn’t anything fancy but it suited our purposes for a place to rest our heads. We’ll be staying here on this trip down as well. We’re hoping to reach the hotel by 9:30 pm (depending if Atlanta traffic cooperates and there isn’t a ton of construction in southern Georgia). Here’s a pic of the kids in one of the beds:

And I’ll be sure to count how many times we hear “Are we there yet?”

Mr. Snowball Man

Okay. I have an OT post. Can I do that? Can I post an OT post in my own PTR? I wouldn’t confuse y’all would I? Oh! But I might confuse myself (It’s really not that hard. I confuse myself all the time) ;)

So here’s the deal. Have you ever seen those cute, little, white snowball things they sell at AK? Especially where EE is? You know. They’re round and look like a snowball but they have these funny teethy (Is that even a word? Who cares! I’m going with it!) grins on them. Yes? No? Okay, I’ll show you:

IMG_1723w.jpg

I love these little guys!!! :lovestruc I first saw them on our trip in 2007. I really wanted to buy one but then I thought “I’m a grown woman! What do I need a stuffed snowball for?” So I put him down and didn’t buy him. Sigh. So then we went back in 2009 and what did I find again. Yup. Mr. Snowball. And I got all giddy inside looking at him. I even took the above picture of him (because he’s so darn cute!). Did I buy him? Nope. I once again listened to that voice in my head that said “You’re a grown woman. You don’t need the incredibly cute, adorable, irresistible, soft, snuggly, snowball man.” So I put him back.

I am here to tell you. NOT THIS TRIP! On this trip, snowball man is coming home with me! I don’t care how much that voice in my head tells me that I don’t need him. He’s mine. He’s moving to K-Town. Not only is he coming, but Alex and Lauren want to bring home some of his twin brothers. So we’re going to have a whole house full of snowball men!

Just had to share that with y’all.

And how many times that Alex says "the interstate again!"

:lmao: Yes! That too!

On our last trip, everytime we would pull off the interstate (food/restroom/gas breaks) and then get back on the interstate, Alex would loudly say: "THE INTERSTATE AGAIN!?" I'll have to count how many times he says that this trip. And I'm sure Lauren will join in since she has to say everything that Alex does. ;)

We have one in our home, and we've never regretted adopting him. He is looking at me as I type!

You are so lucky!!!! I don't know what it is about them, but whenever I've seen one of them, they make me smile and laugh. Even when I see the picture that I posted, I smile and laugh. I can't wait to get him!

:car: That sounds like quite the drive! Can't wait to hear the totals on the "Are we there yet" and "The interstate again" I alsmost wrote the internet :rolleyes1
Those little snowball guys are cute! I say you need at least 3 to make up for past trips when you did not get them :)
