A few weeks ago my son downloaded a patch for Windows ME to help stop some big virus. I do not know if this is the cause of my problem but now when I go to purchase something on line, I can get as far as placing the order but it will not let me pay for the items. It come up with this "this page cannot be displayed." AT first it happened on the SAT test site and I just figured they were down. Then I went to Hanes and it would not let me purchase there also. I have tried tons of differnt sites and it will not let me go to the last page to put in my charge info. HELP how do I fix this. What is wrong. Christmas is coming. The worst part is I have to go to my husband and use his laptop if I want to purchase anything. HELP!! :badpc: :badpc: :confused3 This is the ulitmate irony.

Please someone must know how to fix this. My husband will not play around with it and I am being tortured. It is not like I buy that much on line but I like to have the option. Please take pity...I had to buy 70.00 worth of pantyhose with my husband hanging over my shoulder asking why I needed to buy so many. There has got to be someone out there who can help. I am having withdrawl!

Calm down, BB, LOL, only there for 20 minutes on a Saturday night. :) I did forward the post about 10 minutes ago to the geek squad.

Is the popup blocker on? Do you have a popup blocker?

Thanks Dan. I know it was not on for long but I have been battling with it for a couple of weeks and I KNOW my husband is having fun at my expense.

Pop up blocker is on BUT it is always on. This only just stared after we download the patch as far as I can tell. I came back from two great weeks at WDW and it happend.

I think Dan is on the right path. How did he know he needed a patch? Never, ever trust a popup on your machine that says you have a virus, unless it is from your antivirus software. It sounds like you have a trojan right now to me. I'd suggest you run the suite of spyware/trojan tools.

You should run Spybot (make sure you follow directions to 'update' your definitions):
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

You should run Adaware (make sure you follow directions to 'update' your definitions):
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

(You should run both of these weekly to get rid of this stuff!)

Still can't get to your sites? Get HijackThis: http://castlecops.com/downloads-file-328.html Please read the directions on how to install and run it properly.

After you install HijackThis this please go to this website and post your own thread with a copy of your log. They will tell you what to remove. And believe me it is worth it!!!!!

Also while there, read this thread and follow the instructions this will really help keep the nasties away.

you can also post at TechGuy he will help also sometimes faster than Computer Cops.

As a husband, I can see how I would ask this too...

That is the line of thought I was going in too, Jeff. I am not even sure if ME is supported with MS updates, leading me to believe it is a malware of some sort. I agree with the steps given.

Thanks Guys I was out all day shopping since I could not use my computerLOL.

I did not get the notice from a pop up but rather from a news story on in Orlando. They said that there was a virus and that you should go to Microsoft to download the patch. I have done this before so it was no biggy. Micro soft still does support ME when there is a virus. I will do all that you say. Thanks again!!

OH and as to the pantyhose...just so you know they were opaques and you need to buy them at the beginning of the season or they run out fast. NOW do you understand? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Windows 98 is the only OS that is 'not supported'. They still release critical patches but some viruses may not make the grade.

Let us know what spybot and adaware do for you. If you want, you can PM me the log from hijackthis and I will see if I see anything obvious.

I still don't get $70 of pantyhose. That's what - 12, 15 pairs? More? Just seems like a lot at one time.

Thanks so much I will pm you. But I just want to make the pantyhose thing clear, they were opaques. That is not a brand it is a style. Maybe you might know them as tights(think Peter Pan). You need to buy them at the beginning of the year when the good colors are still in stock. It was only 12 pr AND I got them on sale at the Hanes website. Had I bought them in a store they would be about 120.00!! So see, I saved over 50.00 on line. :rotfl:

Used Spyware and Adaware and they did nothing for the problem so now I am going to use the Highjack this and I will let you know. Thanks again.
