I can't see photos...

I've been reading threads recently and noticed that at the bottom of most posts, there is an icon that looks like if might be a photo, but there is big red X over it. I also realized that I"m not seeing anyone's photos anymore. Being as I am techno-stupid, can anyone figure out what I must have changed, and guide me as to how I can restore settings so I can see everyone's pictures?

Have you tried restarting your browser? Are websites suddenly slow to load?

I see that same thing with certain users so I assume it is site related perhaps due to a recent update. Doubt that rebooting would solve that type of issue since it isn't specific to your PC.

Can you post a link to the post/thread? Then others can say if they're seeing the same thing. And we can see where the image is supposedly hosted.

Ok, I read this as in you were seeing this for multiple photos. If it's specific photos on peoples' signature fields, maybe the URL was incorrect? Sometimes people use an address that's a hard drive path, or the URL just doesn't allow linking.

Found it. That particular link address mentions "**************", which seems to be a site no more.

There's also mention on a forum about the site being unavailable. I wouldn't bother going there, it looks like a forum full of weirdos:

That was just an example I don't know that person and was letting the OP know others are seeing the same thing. Could also mean where the picture is from is no longer available.

I had the red X issue as well. I host my signature gifs on ImageShack, and I always used a link they provided. After the latest DIS update I got the X. On a hunch I stopped using the regular link and instead used a direct link to the image itself and that solved the problem.

Red exes for me too. The hosting site for those images is linked as .net but when loaded, the site is redirected to .com.

I do recall linking off-site to an image that resulted as a red ex. I think it turned out that this was because the host site didn’t allow hot-linking.

I checked Blue Starry Hat’s Herman sig, since hers always show up for me, and the hosting site loads according to the url without issues.

Yup. I see red X's too. That member either linked incorrectly or the site doesn't allow linking, or the hosting site went down.
