I can't get this little girl out of my mind (trick-or-treat story)

I'm manning the door while DH is out with the kids. A truck just pulled up in front of my house and a girl, maybe 8 years old, got out and came up to the door. When I opened it I was certain I smelled pot. It's one of those smells that's unmistakable, especially if you went to college in the 70's.

After she took her candy and headed back to the truck I went outside to smell my jack-o-lanterns...trying to convince myself it was the candles burning in the pumpkins I was smelling.

It wasn't, because as soon as she opened the truck door I smelled it again! I didn't recognize her or the truck so they weren't from the neighborhood.

I did try to get the registration number from the plate on the truck and after a few minutes I called the police. It may be nothing, but I coudn't just let him drive off with her if she was in any danger.

My neighbor just stopped in and said there's a police car cruising the neighborhood. That makes me feel a little bit better.

Thank God I had responsible parents.

It seems to me if you can't wait till you get home to smoke Pot then you have a grave problem.

You did the right thing by calling the police.

So sorry you had to have that happen to you.

I found myself walking with two dads who had
decided to bring beers on their trick or treat
experience. Whatever the addiction-parents who
can't stop for an hour and put their children first
disgust me. From now on, I'll think twice before I
let DS go anywhere with these men.

Kudos to you for making that call! You not only stood up for the little girl but you may have saved some innocent kids from bing in harm's way from an impaired driver.

Mimi, What's wrong with drinking beer while taking kids Trick-or-Treating...I see it all the time in our neighborhood and never give it a second thought. Also, it's a tradition on our street that every Halloween DH and several other of our neighbors in the cul-de-sac have a 'Halloween Party' in the street. They get a cooler of beer, lawn chairs, bowls of candy, and hand out candy from the street. It's so much fun although I'm usually one of the ones taking my kids around...sans the beer, though, because I don't like the taste! But I don't see why a parent is irresponsible or digusting just because they drink a beer while walking around with their kids....and I'd hate to think someone would think that about us! I'm not trying to start a debate, I'm just honestly curious as to why someone would find something wrong with this! (unless, of course, they were driving their kids around drunk...that's a different story!)

I know someone that wanted to go for a bike ride with family. The only problem was, he needed a basket to put on the front of the bike. Why??? you ask. Because he needed it to hold his 6pack of beer. He didn't want to go thirsty.
