My passport just expired and I was getting it ready to renew I realized I can't find my birthcertificate. We are going to Las Vegas at the end of August so I need it quick!!!! I seem to recall a discussion a couple of months ago about a place in Toronto you could go to get them. I do have my airline etickets to prove that I am going.

Thanks,

Allison

oh my goodness... did you look under that stack of papers?? in the drawer?? in your wallet?

I sent my forms to the expidited fax number on June 22nd (supposed to be mailed within 10 days) .... goofed up and forgot to put on my birth date  (they got that info on July 2nd) and then when I called last week they informed me that on the line that it states NAME (at time of birth) I should have put the last name that I legally changed my name to and not the one at time of birth like it stated so fax off another letter....... called today and 'they are working on it' (5 weeks since they got the missing info they needed!!)

On this web site Ministry of Consumer and Buiseness Services you will find the forms to print as well as the location of the offices and prices. I really wish I had taken the extra time to take my forms directly to Toronto and get them done them. I just hope I have mine before I go away in October!!

Good luck to you!!

I share your pain. I'm in the middle of reverting to my maiden name. When I went to get my SIN changed, I discovered that my birth certificate was not in the envelope with the rest of the papers anymore. I'm currently waiting for the lost and found officers at the police station to start working so I can make a report. It's kind of disturbing to realize just how much I count on a document I normally use once every 5 years. :(

edited to add By the way, if you bring your airline tickets to an office in person, you can get your birth certificate in 2 working days.

Ciao,
Mort.

Just go to the city hall and apply for a new one. I was worried when I applied for my passport that I would not get it in time and since I had to send my birthcertificate with it, I did not want to get stuck without either of them. It only took about 7 days to get it but I am sure that if you live in a big centre it would take less time.

Hi, Deanie.

It's different in Ontario. You can't get them from city hall. You get them from the Office of the Registrar, and there is a severe backlog for birth certificates. For a while, the department was criminally understaffed, so there is a major wait. It used to be you could go and get same day service. Now, with proof of emergency, you can one in 2 business days, but for that, you need to produce plane tickets.

Kungaloosh!
Mort.

Thanks,

Sounds like the best thing to do is go in person. I am going to do another major search of the house this weekend. I have checked and double checked all the usual spots but I am going to triple check. If not I guess I will go to Toronto next week. I sure hope they will accept etickets. WE leave August 27th.

Can anyone give me directions to the office and any advise on how to get there?

Allison

The Toronto Counter is
Macdonald Block, Room M2-49
900 Bay ST. 2nd Fl (Bay and Wellesley)

If taking TTC, the easiest way is to get off at Wellesley Station and walk one block west.

Replacement cards are $35 plus the emergency fee (I don't remember what that is). Be prepared to arrive at 8:30, and possibly spend the day.

edited to add Download the form from the website first, and fill it out. There's a lot of info you need that probably only your parents know. Also, it needs to be signed by a guarantor.

Good luck,
Mort.

Thanks Mort, I did download the form and you are right there is alot of information that I need to find out. I still hope I can find my BC when I tear the house apart this weekend. It is amazing the number of useless cards I have kept yet I can't find my birth certificate :(.
