I can't book a cruise?

When did the policy of if it is available for cash then we can book it on points change.DVC says there are no cruises available to us untill next October.There was a change in policy, but they never told us.How could they do that to us?

There has always been a capacity limitation, but like any perk, booking outside your home resort can change or the priveledge elminated. In this case, severely limited to a smaller capacity and strictly enforced.

It's my understanding that DCL only allows so many point/DVC reservations per sailing. With all the incentive cruises that DVC handed out to people buying points last year, this has lowered the amount of point bookings allowed this year as they came from the same pot so to speak. There is a thread on the DCL board that talks about this and it states the point bookings are sold out though Oct 2011.

There was a very large thread of people being affected by a lack of availability on DCL. It initially was reported as a policy change, but clarification was made that in fact it was that the capacity of DVC rooms had been reached. MS was working with a lot of peole that were trying to convert cash rooms, etc to keep their vacations and I think they got most people booked. At that time they were doing a list that you would basicly waitlist for cabins, but not sure if that is still going on.

DVC never has made policies of "if its available for cash it is for points" in any of their vacation options, there is usually some type of cap as they all go through third parties to book (ABD, DCL, RCI, etc).

I called for a trip to Disneyland a couple of years ago and Grand Californian Hotel was available for cash but not for points. So there are capacity restrictions for any use of points outside of DVC, this is not new. The reason is DVC has to turn around and rent rooms through CRO to pay for your trade. They are having difficulty filling these rooms without a substantial discount, so they have to put a cap on it.

Doesnt anyone realize that the new ship is debuting later this year? Everyone is trying to sail on the new ship right away so all the DVC members already scooped up all the rooms that are alotted for members. When they hype dies down then there will be more availability. Simple.

When were you trying to book for?

We can book cruises two years in advance, so if you are trying to book fairly short-notice it's certainly not surprising that you are having difficulty.
