I Can't Believe I Invited My MIL -I'm BAAACK! And determiend to finish this thing!

After the let-down that was Friday's mail experisnce, I didn't allow myself to get too excited when I found two large, thick Disney envelopes in my mailbox after Buzz's soccer game on Saturday. I calmly carried the envelopes inside. I showed them to DOnald (who couldn't care less), and asked the kiddos if they wanted to see what the Mouse had sent us....

IMGP0134.jpg

Oh, yeah baby...The REAL docs this time!! :woohoo: You know, they really aren't all that exciting, so why do I feel so excited? I guess because this is just one step closer to the vacation I 've been planning for over a year, and thinking about for 5 years. I've wanted to take the kids on "their first trip" since Buzz was born. And now it only slightly more than a month away - wow!

I like the luggage tags...I actually don't have one like this because when I was at WDW the past two years it was with the pom squad I have now mentioned quite a few times :cheer2: and the whole trip is set up differently. We don't get fancy trappings like luggage tags.

I wil ladmit to being one of those who wishes that there was a new theme for this year...I liked YOAMD a lot, and it is true that my kids and Donald and MIL have not seen it yet. But I wanted to see some new parades and shows!! Oh well. I do love those beautiful blue outfits Mickey and Minnie wear.... So it is all good!!!

Buzz has already squirreled away with his luggage tag...he wrote his name on his and his sister's name on hers. Who knows where they are now... Both kids have little private stashes of treasures in their room. Since we drive, we don't even really need the tags (though you KNOW I'll be using mine, friends!!), but I am sure both kids will show up with theirs when we start packing up the car for the trip! That is just how they are!! A few months ago, I bought Buzz Peter Pan (before it went into that pesky, and seal-tight, vault they're always threatening us with), and it came with a FREE light-up Peter Pan pin!! I told Buzz to hold onto it and he could wear it at WDW. He squirreled it up to his room immediately. When I handed him the luggage tag yesterday, he exclaimed, "I'll put it with my Peter Pan pin!!!"

Have I done an awesome job of shoving Disney down my kids' throats, or what???:thumbsup2

OK, ok, Sep., I am going to PM you assignment #2...Are you ready??? Can you handle it??

Also, STAY STRONG. Do NOT invite the ILs to Parent Trap II. Once is enough. Be careful -one oment of weakness can change your whole life, and your WDW vacay. Trust me on this. I am living it!

This pre-trip report needs to be shown some love...it seems a bit lonely today.

Well, I had to make some changes to the ole itinerary this morning. You see, we were orginally booked at POR (pre-MIL coming along). I had planned on spending some serious time roaming the resort, maybe taking a carriage ride, etc. on the Arrival Day. Fast Froward to My Moment of Great Stupidity and possible Drug Induced Haze when I nivited MIL. Because we needed two rooms, we switched over to ASMu. The time now needed, and wanted, for resort-exploration has decreased dramatically.

We did have an 8:30pm reservation at Chef Mickey's for Arrival Day night. But I began thinking (which in case you are slow, asleep, or just joining me, is almost never good). 1. What are we going to do from arrival time (2pm) until 8:30? We can't ride the monorail for that long, and we don't have park tix to spare. 2. Everyone around here has been saying lately that Chef Mickey's blows. Like, apparently it is seriously horrendous these days. So do we really want to eat there? 3. 8:30 is very late for dinner with two little ones, but nothing was available any earlier.

So - new plan. We'll be going to DTD on Arrival Day, and we'll pick up something there for dinner...probably something easy yet delish like my good buddy Earl. Earl of Sandwich, that is.

We were also supposed to eat at Breakfastasaurus on our last day at WDw, which is also AK day. But...of course, it is going down for rennovations the day BEFORE our ADRS...what luck!!!

So this leaves up with only one character meal...at LTT on MK Day #1. That is just not enough character dining experiences for a die-hard DISer and her brood on what can only be considered their very first FAMILY TRIP. So, I ended up on the phone with the DR folks today.

Me: I would like a character meal. Any character meal. Preferably breakfast on our last day at WDW. We want to go out in style.
CM: Ma'am, while I don't want to in any way diminish the magic for you, I have to tell you that your trip is only 30 days away. The chances of us finding you chaacter breakfast with decent food, characters your kids like and want to dine with, AND at an actual breakfast time of day are next to impossible.
Me: Oh boy. Well, tell me what you've got.
CM: Lady, I got nuthin'. Every restaurant in AK is taking an extended break during your stay. You can't go to CP because it is AK day and you don't have Hoppers (I swae she muttered "dummy" under her breath at this). How about breakfast with Goofy and pals at Cape May?
Me: Well, Ihave always wanted to check out that Beach CLub....
CM: Wonderful!!! How is 11:10?
Me: Well, it gives us either a bit of a late start to AK or a alot of going back and forth....Anything earlier?
CM: Oh, the 'Ohana breakfast is lovely...Lilo, Stitch, Mickey...and such great food!! You can even run over to Kona and get a decent cup of coffee, and we all know that is as impossible as short lines over Spring Break. (this last part about the coffee may have been only in my head)
Me: OK!! We are eating dinenr there already ,but why not? My kids love those characters!! Thanks so much!! You are magic! Disney is magic!! Long live the Mouse!
CM: Oh, wait...there is nothing available at all on that date. Sorry!! (such a sweet voice she said this in, too)
Me: Um....well.....what next?
CM: DO your kids like to say Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious while dining on Mickey Waffles??
Me: Boy do they!
CM: How about breakfast with Mary POppins, Alice and the Mad hatter, and Pooh and Friends at 1900 Park Fare?
Me: Is this a trick?? Can we have breakfast before noon? Is it even available? Will the restaurant close for renovations the day before we arrive?
CM: Wow! You are one lucky lady! (she really did exclaim these exact words) I have a 9:20!! DO you want that or a 10am?
Me: 9:20!!! 9:20!!!
CM: Oopsy!!! It's gone!! They go so fast around here!!!
Me; Are you serious?
CM: Nope!! Just kidding!! All yours!

And that my friends is the story (more lr less) of how my family will be dining on Mickey waffles and buffet-grade eggs with Mary Poppins, Alice and crew on our last day at WDW. Please don't tell BUzz.....he may not be all that stoked about this. I am sure it will seem "girly" to him. I am going to start today with talk of how mainly the Mad Hatter and Pooh truly are.....

But I am excited!!! I have only seen the GF from the water, so being inside it should be a treat!! Woo hoo!! Go me, go me!:woohoo:

Yes, yes! I'm ready. :thumbsup2 My nightmare is she invites herself. Horrors!

Pictures?

This was HILARIOUS! You know, I don't like breakfast food very much - I prefer my calories on a nice roll with some mayo - and I've always wondered why EVERY breakfast is always booked. It must be because of limited breakfast hours - what, 7am-12noon, and then the rest of the day is lunch/dinner. But it's insane. And people wonder why we book ADRs so far in advance! Ha!

I know at least a half-dozen of you have been wondering where I wandered off to.... We were in St. Louis, MO, last weekend for my brother's wedding. It was a great trip, but one that left me, gasp - computer-less!! Oh, the tragedy!!

Actually, this wedding of my dear sweet baby brother's actually has a Disney tie-in.....We were supposed to go to WDW a few weeks earlier than we actually are (like next week, to be exact, but back in February my brother was struck by the compulsion to propose, and once the date was set for October 6, we knew we had to push back the ole Disney trip.

To be honest, I know the weather will be better in November. I was just trying to aviod Jersey Week, for once. Not that I don't care for Jerseyites, because how could you not??? :confused3 Truth be told, while I do notice slightly elevated crowd levels, I have never noticed a huge number of Jersey accents, and according to television, those are pretty noticable, right?

Disclaimer: I have never been to NJ. I hear it is lovely. Being from the South, and being a Law and Order fan, I can't help but think of this state as where all the bad guys dump their dead bodies. I a massumuing there is little to no truth to this? September Girl - can you help me out? :)

OK, I'll be abck soon with a real installment....After all, we are only 27 days out!!! Woo hoo!!! :woohoo: :yay:

I missed ya! I hope that you had a good time at your brother's wedding. How do people expect one to function without internet? We are leaving Thursday to go camping and of course my camp site is not equipped with cable or internet.

Wow, we went to a wedding this weekend, too! Las Vegas! My cousin (who is not from NJ) headed to WDW with her family on wedding day - Oct 6th!

NJ is small, but we have all these distinct accents. North Jersey accents, the South Jersey/Philly accents, the sort of general East Coast accents. I can't tell fellow Jerseyans by their accent! But, yet, I'm pretty good at the Midwest ones - maybe because that's where my parents and family are from.

But yes, many, many parts of NJ are lovely! I kind of like my part - an hour from Manhattan and 10 minutes from the beach! :goodvibes

Waiting for updates! :)

Me too! ::yes:: ... and when you need that little taste of Disney, Broadway & NYC World of Disney are only about an hour away!... :)

So the time has come to show you the shirt design I have conceived for my MIL. She as no idea I am making her clothes to wear while at WDW. She will probably be packing her own shirts, only to find that was a huge waste of time. :rotfl2:

By the way, two of you replied with HILARIOUS shirt slogans... I mean, how could not love "My Daughter In Law Rocks?" I mean, it is funny, and TRUE! HAHA. "I am Just Here to Babysit" is also hilarious, and I promise I'll be using that one (should I credit you on the shirt?). But one of you was actually able to hit the nail on the head with the slogan I had already come up with - amazing! Check it out:

Cute, huh?

Let me just state this here for the record: We did NOT actually allow my poor MIL to foot the entire bill of this trip. Let me explain something here... MIL is very generous. She did not have a lot as a single mom when Donald was growing up, but she worked overtime to give him things like toys and name-brand clothes. My MIL shows love through stuff. She has a hard time expressing emotions out loud, so she does it through buying us stuff. She makes a comfortable enough living for a single lady, but she is by no means rich. And I try very hard not to take advantage of her willingness to spend every last penny she has on her grandkids, and on us. (Donald has no such scruples). SO I tricked her. Yes, I tricked my MIL. I am that girl.

You see, after inviting her, she said she wanted to help out with the cost of the trip. I said, sure! I"ll let you know how much your tix cost, and you can pay us back for those. They were much cheaper than she thought they would be, so she offered up some more $$. Next thing I knoew, she tells me she wants to pay for the whole she-bang. So we fought about it. And finally I gave in. I LET HER BELIEVE SHE IS PAYING FOR THE WHOLE TRIP. in reality, she is paying a third, which is really more than she should. Oh, yes. I am a filthy rotten liar. But my intentions are good.

Because MIL has no idea how much a Disney trip costs and is not one to go looking into it, I can get away with this. And I know wearing this shirt will make her feel special.

So, if you see us walking down Main Street, don't blow my cover!! Let the old broad think she treated us to an entire 6 day WDW trip. It will make her happier than you could ever know!! :cloud9: One day, we'll get her some therapy. But for right now, we're going to WDW!! And besides, I am sure she will make up her 2/3rds by buying Buzz and THE PRINCESS every last thing their eyes fall upon in the gift shops.... :rolleyes1

OMG I LOVE THAT SHRIT! I SOOOO need one for my MIL. She is footing our room bill and ticket costs and we are doing the food and souvies.

So are you just printing them on regular iron-ons? How well do those hold up in the wash? I am tempted to do this for our family but I am scared of how long they will last.

It sounds like a fun trip so far. I can't wait to here more!

I have made a few for my son's preschool class in past years...They have held up well, but he only wears them now and again. I use Kodak Transfer paper for Ink Jet printers...It is kind of expensive, but it is the best one I have found, mainly because you don't have to cut around your deisgn...only the colors printed iron on, so there is no 8.5x11 sized box on the front of your shirt. Does this make any sense at all?? :confused3

By the way, I lvoe that your first name can spell "marine"... too cool!! Must have been fate for you to hook up with DH!!

Me too! ::yes:: ... and when you need that little taste of Disney, Broadway & NYC World of Disney are only about an hour away!... :)

Wow - cool!!! How big is the NYC World of Disney? Anything like DTD?

Thanks for the edu-ma-cation, Sep!! You are so smart, and this is why I love you. Well, also for your tiara obsession. And for your red hair. And for your maritnis in jelly jars.

that makes perfect sense about the 8x11 box. I will have to try it with the kodak paper and see what I can come up with!

And about the name. I have been married almost 14years(next week!) and I have never noticed that my name is MARINE! TOOO FUNNY! but growing up I had a HUGE crush on Major Dad(remember that show) and KNEW I would marry a military man. DH and I met in college and when he said he wanted to join the Marines I CRIED!!!!!!!!! but now I have adjusted and enjoy my life of wandering and moving boxes.

Monday, Nov. 5
7:30 - hop on bus to MK (we hope to hop on, that is)
9am - Rope Drop (1st day must-do for me)
Explore Fantasyland, work around thru Frontierland to Adeventureland
Lunch: CHH
Use parade time to ride
Dinner: LTT @ 5:30
7pm - Spectro
Go Back to resort

Fantastic pre trip report!! Having another adult around is definately a good idea. We are going to be at LTT at the same exact time as your family, so if you see a pooh sized woman and her b/f in a motorized wheelchair smile and give a small wave to you and your family, that would be us.

Can't wait to read more popcorn::.

My Dad looks just like Major Dad!!! We used to call him that as kids, and he would make us salute him!! Too funny!

If you want my Dad's number, let me know - I'll hook you up!! (winkwink). Just don't tell my Mom!!!:lmao:
