I cant believe I got allstars for $36?& it says u can add nghts up till checkout?

I just did what everyone else said they did and I got the allstars for $36 in June! It says I can extend the same rate for more nights up untill I check out, could this be true, I mean they might be full, but I was really getting it for my adult sons (21 & 18) anyway so we wouldnt be crowded. This puts alot of questions in my mind like maybe putting all our reservations here, or staying at fort wilderness in a 4 person room instead of a contem. What do you think, those who have won did you read that under conditions to extend stay?

We are going in June 2-4 before our cruise and that is a perfect price. We have ressies at teh Swan but for 39 I can make some exceptions

I just went on priceline and picked the 2.5 star in disney vicinity, bid 36.oo and wooh lah I got all stars. so easy, scarey but easy.

I haven't pursued extending it but have the option to do so. I imagine this is standard if they feel they'll have availability. I'd follow the same approach (checking Expedia for availability) and stuff before you bid assuming you'll have the same option.

As it is, it works out perfectly for us. Check in on the grounds the night before and off in the early AM to our destination to hang out at the parks and pool until afternoon check in time. It was worth the risk of $47 to get the deal.

Checking Expedia has nothing to do with Priceline, you might as well cross your fingers and go for it. The inventories are not the same. Just because Expedia has rooms does not mean Priceline will or vice versa. Online travel services get their inventories by purchasing a block of fares or hotel rooms at a reduced rate directly from the airlines and hotels. They can then sell those to you for whatever price they determine.

Good luck, but don't depend on Expedia to help you make your decision.

Absolutely no way to know. Priceline is the Roulette of Hotel rooms. You know whats on the wheel when you spin, you don't know what you will get.

Note; I don't think we have seen any July wins.... Considering how busy Disney is over July 4th I would think that thier desire to sell at a huge discount would not be great.

I disagree with the PL comment about Expedia. My experience on www.biddingfortravel.com and other sites is that if they are showing hotels sold out... those hotels are not on PL. Also, there are TWO ways Expeida gets rooms One is to access the Marriott, Hilton etc. inventory and sell at their discounts. There are also times Expeida commits to selling X hotels. In that case they may discount. Now since you rarely see Expedia discount Disney I don't think they committ to selling the rooms....

Why do you keep posting misinformation? PL is not a consoloidator, hotels load PL rates and inventory into the GDS system and can change the rates and room allocation at any time.

It is rare for a sold out hotel to have rooms available on PL. You may be half right, I'm not convinced Expedia is the best way to determine if a hotel is sold out.

I manage a huge casino resort in AC. We use Priceline as a seller and have a very tight grip on their negotaited allocated blocks. Once they reach their block limit on any given day, they get immediately cut off. We simply go into their inventory management system and remove our resort from the bidding pool. Having said that, when PL gets innondated with wining bids on our hotel (like the news of 36.00 rates at AS resorts) and our hotel does not watch their inventory, they can sell over their blocks. It does happen. Holidays are not even an option with PL at our property.

Pricelines negotiated rate of 36.00 is a real good given rack rates at All Stars are realitively low and the cost to clean and maintain a room daily is 25.00 on average (25.00 includes 30 minutes of maids pay to clean room, maintainence of rooms, linen laundering etc). Priceline makes 10-15% on the cost of the room plus any admin fees they tack on each room night they sell. It may not seem like alot of commission but it does add up quickly. We always make every attemppt accomodate our Pricelines guests requests when they arrive and do not treat them any differently than the person who went through the hotel directly for a rate that is usually higher..

I am very pleased with my luck with getting 6 rooms at AS Music for 36.00 a night for 9 nights. I saved oodles of money.

I think number two is a little more nuanced than that -- I believe expedia buys options on rooms. For example, they pay $25 to WDW for the right sell a tower room at the contemporary on x date for $250. If they sell it, they keep the difference. If they decide not to sell it or can't sell it, they put it back to WDW, which keeps the $25 and then can do whatever it likes with the room. After a certain time, the put disappears, so they can't put it back to disney and they have to pay the $250.

I'm pretty sure that even when expedia owns options on the room, they may never undrsell disney. The lowest at which they can offer the room is at whatever the lowest rate disney is making available to the public at that time (or as part of a comparativey priced package.) In other words, even if Expedia owns a room and the period for putting it back to disney has passed (so they own it at $250), if the room is $350 at disney, expedia can't just dump it for $200 to get some of their money back. Disney wouldn't care for option holders cannibalizing their own market.

I read something about how it worked this way at one point; not sure if it still does. I do know it's virtually never that you find a price on expedia lower than you could get through disney -- except that sometimes disney sells out of certain codes, but expedia may still the equivalent of that code on the same rooms.

Someone asked about December. My honest response is I don't know if anything is there, but I doubt it. We have had a few July attempts with no success.

My thoughts (with no factual basis since Disney doesn't consult me or anyone else on this board to the best of my knowledge) is that IF this continues it will be for LATE bookings....I would expect no more then 45 days out if that.

PL is a place to "dump" unsold rooms. Overall experience has been that you can get better rates/more options later. Now I bet if I bid for Sept/Dec I have GOOD shot at the Holiday Inn. They don't seem to run the risk of selling out and probably release to PL earlier.

We always make every attemppt accomodate our Pricelines guests requests when they arrive and do not treat them any differently than the person who went through the hotel directly for a rate that is usually higher...

At WDW, if a resort is oversold, the first ones to get walked to another resort (and that doesn't always mean another Disney resort), are the reservations booked through Travelocity, Priceline, etc.
