I can NOT believe what happened to me at the POST OFFICE today (long)

Oh I can read the headlines now
3,5, & 7 year olds arrested for making too much noise & goofy faces at postal customers

give me a break
Her children must be angels or better yet let me guess she doesn't have any - no husband or boyfriend either just panties in a bunch.

ROTFLOL

You said there was a lady behind you in line. Did she witness this incident?

TC:cool:

I would definately report this. How many of us could act like that without consequences? With the size of your town it doesn't sound like she's overworked. I agree it would be a great Mayberry episode.:D

Tuffcookie.. yes there were others in line behind me.. in fact about half way through all of this, one lady says.. oh, could we please just move this along??
I just ignored her.. ..but I'm thinking "I bet you wouldn't be saying that if it was YOU she was yelling at!"
I don't have any of the names of those others though.

and yes, I did post on the book exchange thread to please make sure to let me know when the boxes get there :)

She sounds like a total kook. Is this a regular post office or a contract one? B/c you said there was only one employee, I thought it might be a contract branch. If it is, I don't think the people are government employees. I'm sure they have to promise a certain level of service and standards, though.

I know it is the only post office for the town and I remember that the regular girl ( Angelyn) works in some of the other larger post offices around Raleigh-- Angelyn was at one large one for about 4 months getting some kind of training........
i don't know if that answers your question about a contract PO.. I've never heard of that, so I'm not sure what it is......

I AM a window clerk, and yes, like the others have said here, do file a complaint. Unfortunately, a personality test isn't required to work on the window, and some people just can't seem to handle the stress.(even if you or I wouldn't think that what happened with you is stressful). The regular postmaster does need to know about it. And, like someone else mentioned, if there was someone you knew in line, feel free to get them to back you up if need be. That person is either too new, or too jumpy to be working the window.
BTW, we have one or two clerks like her in our city, and the supervisors really have to 'ride herd' on them so to speak. They are both real jumpy. (I've worked with both):)
Good luck with your complaint.

Sorry to hear you had such a hard time! I had a tough time over the summer. I baked some cookies to send to a friend and I went to the PO to overnight them. There was a HUGE sign on the wall that said "Priority Mail/ Overnight" or something like that and a display of boxes underneath. I picked the box that suited the size of my cookies and the packing material that I had brought. She seemed all put out of place when I asked to use the Tape and as I walked away from the counter to go to the "work" area for customers, she yelled that I couldn't leave the counter with her tape. So, we got the box all taped up, I put the address on, AS MANY PEOPLE WERE WAITING BEHIND ME and told her I'd like to overnight it.

She yelled "YOU CAN"T OVERNIGHT IN THIS BOX!!!, You'll have to send it Priority Mail 2-3 days!" As if I was stupid.

I said.... "this is FOOD, Florida is hot, they'll melt and go bad. I need it overnight. Can I put it in a different box?

her: "No. Priority Mail boxes are free and if you don't send it PM than you wasted a box.

Me "I'll pay for the box and for a new one, can we put this inside the correct box?"

Her: It won't fit! Still yelling and sighing and rolling her eyes

Me: Can I wrap it in brown paper and send it that way? Its food and I don't want it to be ruined... it won't be worth sending. What can we do?

Her: (taking the box from me and putting it on a conveyor belt like thing with rollers) I don't care whats in the box, but it's going out like this. It will be there in 2-4 days!

I almost slapped her!

UPS is no better. So what's a girl to do? I just don't send things anymore!

Holly

Holly, That is incredible!!! I would have talked to a supervisor over that!

As I've posted on another thread, my husband is a letter carrier. I will admit there are some "weird" people hired by the USPS. I would file a complaint, I wouldn't want this to happen to someone else. She had no reason to yell at you that way.
FYI: if you have a question on mailing something I would call the PO and ask ahead of time. I've had to do this and I've found it's easier than asking once I get to the post office. Good luck!!

Keep in mind that calling the p.o. though, can be a 'risky' business. The phone lines are manned by an outside firm, who don't always know much about the p.o. I hated having to answer the phone so much before the new 1-800 # (so many of our calls were actually for our sister station), but there are times now, that I wish we didn't have the new number. Yuck!:) So do us one favor, if someone on the phone line gives you one answer and the clerk gives you another, please don't get too upset. Those new phone lines drive us crazy too.:)

It does take all kinds
I would file a complaint and never go near her again!

Wow! Sounds like she needs to drop a dime.

Wow Holly, I'm sorry about what you went through too.. AND I even scrolled back up to see if you lived near me!! LOL

Ok, i guess this all gives me the opinions I was looking for--- thanks for the responses and I'll go to the next town over and see what I need to do!

I would be extremely mad if I had been in your shoes, Kathi! Definately file a complaint about her. She's definately a nut ready to crack!

you should file a complaint. even if she was just having a "bad day" she has no right to treat you or any other customer like that.

And don't forget about the website -- it's saved me tons of time!

Thanks, I went there the other day, but for the life of me, I can't figure out where to file a complaint on the site.....
