My brother lives in Orlando and will be joining us for a day or two. The first day we get there I have already made arrangements for him to join us at Le Cellier..

Question being... I can use one of OUR credits to cover his $$$$ meal at Le Cellier and pay OOP for one of our meals at O'Hana, right?

Technically no. You are not allowed to share your DDP credits with people not on the DDP.

In practice, I think past diners have had various experiences dependent on the establishment and the server.

If I understand your question right then the answer is no. That will no longer work.

Say there are two adults in your party. It will list your meal plan on your card a 2 Adults. If someone joins you and you order 3 meals then you are going to have to pay out of pocket for one of those meals.

You can order 2 meals and share them with another so that you feed three people with 2 meal credits.

Now if 2 of you eat and then a few hours later one of you eats again....well you might get away with that. No fun but it would most likely work .... as long as you have the meal credits.

It would be easier to add this person to your reservation and then you would have meal credits for the time he is there and the rest of your party could use up the other credits to do say signature dining.

If this person is an adult then there is a charge to have more than 2 adults in the room (I think) and if you are getting tickets then you will have to buy the same ticket for him too. he doesn't have to use this ticket for park entry and you can save that room key/ticket for another trip.

We are planning on adding a teenage relative to our package. She can only come for a few days but we figure it is cheaper to buy her our 1 day base ticket that we are getting than to pay for her food for 2 or 3 days. She is legally still a child so there is no charge to add her to our room and we are going during free dining so there is no charge for that either.

If we add him (he eats like a horse, might as well!) does anyone know if he can upgrade his ticket to get a FLORIDA resident pass instead of just a regular pass?

Seems like it would be worth it because then we'd get the extra dining credits for whenever he pops over to hang out with us.

Here's the relevant portion of the rules that covers this:

If you add him, you'll be required to actually purchase additional admission for him, specifically in the form of Magic Your Way admission (unless you're on a DVC reservation). I know you can use the extra admission for him, or anyone else, to purchase a regular annual pass at some later date, but I'm not sure they'll accept it for a Florida pass -- I cannot see why they wouldn't, though.

In the past we use to treat our friends with our extra TS credits, but over the past year or two since DDP really got going, the servers will not allow this. If your dining card/room key says 2A (meaning 2 adults), this is the maximum amount of credits you can use during your meal. However, we often will use the credits for the most expensive entrees and pay OOP for the cheaper one. You could always add him to your room like others have said, but it would require you paying the extra adult fee per night and buying him a one day ticket (which he could use to upgrade to his larger pass).

No, but what you CAN do is if he's ordering an incredibly expensive meal and wants 3 courses and you'd be ordering a less expensive meal, is use your credit to pay for the meal he'll be ultimately eating and pay OOP for the meal you'll be ultimately eating. Basically trade after ordering. Or order a starter and give it to him. Order a dessert and give it to him. etc.

The only way for him to have his own DDP credits is to add him to the room reservation- pay the extra adult charge for your room and pay for his daily ddp costs as well as the same ticket that you bought with your package.

It's likely that his meal/your meal at le cellier won't cost THAT much.

Last January I had forgot to tell my DDIL and DS that they needed to pay for one of their meals OOP because we needed two TS each at CG for our last evening. I Explained to our server that one of us would need to pay for a meal and he helped us to use our plan effectively and to save OOP money. He did thank us for telling him ahead of tiome so that he could make sure that we only paid the least amount necessary.

Our server at 50's PTC did the same thing. As long as they know ahead of time they can assist you and still stay within the rules.

For our Sept trip we have free dining, but we had to book a package to get it so we were not able to use our FL residents discounts.

no. they're talking about adding DB to the reservation and getting the package for him including dining and MYW ticket which HE can then UPGRADE to a florida resident (a sort of restricted AP) pass.
